The Sisterhood of the
Traveling Pants was
her first novel.

7. The Idea behind
the Novel.
“It started with a
conversation. A woman I
used to work with, a dear
friend, Jodi Anderson,
talked about a summer
where she and her friends
had shared a pair of pants
that end up being lost.
It was sad but I
loved the idea – a concrete
thing in the middle of a
great big, amorphous world
of fiction.”

Characters of
the Story are the
four friends,
namely Tibby
Tomko-Rollins,
Lena Kaligaris,
Carmen Lowell
and Bridget
Vreeland.

11. These four friends
tried to keep in touch for
the first summer that
they are to have without
the company of each
other.
The pants became
a unifying symbol for
them that bonded them
even though they are far
from each other.
Things happened
while they have the pants
with them, problems arise
but they were able to
settle them when the
pants got its return to
each one of them.

they part ways, the
Sisterhood was formed
and they made a vow to
keep the ten
“commandments” of the
Sisterhood of the
Traveling Pants and to
write each other and tell
them their stories while
they have the Pants with
them.
And here are the
main characters with their
different stories with the
Pants. 

13. Tibby Tomko-Rollins
She was just
at home during the
summer but she
worked at
Wallman’s store
and befriended the
twelve-year old
Bailey who is sick.

14. Lena Kaligaris
She went to
Greece with her
sister Effie to visit
their grandparents.
There, her
grandmother
acquaint her to
Kostos, also a
resident of the
place.

15. Carmen Lowell
She went to
South Carolina to
visit her father
where she was
surprised to know
a secret: her father
is about to be
married to a
woman with
children.

16. Bridget Vreeland
She went to
Baja California in
Mexico to join the
Camp of soccer
players. There
She fell in love with
one of the
Camp’s coaches.

17. And as the Journey of the
Pants comes to a close that summer,
the friends had their late-night
celebration. The celebration also
became the occasion for them to
celebrate their own birthdays for their
birthdays are not that far from each
others’ date.
There they promised that
the Pants shall be worn again next
summer.
And that is how the Pants
changed their lives and improved their
friendship…
