UT mulls bridge on Mullanpur road

CHANDIGARH: The UT administration is planning to build a Clover
Bridge on the busy Chandigarh-Mullanpur road to ease congestion.
The proposal was discussed at a recent meeting and the details of the
project were yet to be finalized.
A Clover Bar Bridge is usually built across rivers with at least three
lanes. Such type of bridges were constructed abroad as back as early
70s to carry huge traffic.
Large-scale activity has been planned on the Mullanpur boundary with
Chandigarh, including an urban estate and Metro station for the large
population expected to be housed in the area.
UT finance secretary V K Singh said "The busy intersection needs to be
improved for traffic and some technical solutions have been given by
experts, which are being examined by the administration."
Punjab government has been taking keen interest in development of
Mullanpur area and had offered free land for construction of the Metro
station there to the administration. The town has also been
rechristened "New Chandigarh" recently.
Most of the east west corridor of Metro would move in a straight line
along Madhya Marg before moving along a curve around Botanical
Garden to reach Mullanpur. Similarly, the north-south corridor, too,
would reach Sector 22 in a straight line and then lean towards left to run
across Sector 17 before turning straight again.
