 IN HYDROELECTRIC POWER PLANTS THE POTENTIAL ENERGY OF WATER
STORED AT A HEIGHT IS CONVERTED INTO ELECTRICAL ENERGY.
 THE HYDROELECTRIC POWER DEPENDS ON :-
1. HEAD OF WATER.
2. DISCHARGE OF WATER.
 TOTAL POWER THAT CAN BE GENERATED IS:-

2000.

1. BARRAGE
 IN TLDP-III 140 m LONG BARRAGE HAS BEEN CONSTRUCTED ACROSS
RIVER TEESTAAT 27 MILES FROM RAMBI.
 THE HEIGHT OF THE BARRAGE IS 32.5m AND HAVING 7 GATES.
2. POWER HOUSE
TLDP-III CONSISTS OF A UNDERGROUND AND SURFACE POWER
HOUSE.

 PRIMARY COOLING FLOOR.
 SECONDARY COOLING FLOOR.
 TURBINE FLOOR.
 GENERATOR FLOOR.
 MACHINE HALL.

 IT IS OPEN WATER CIRCULATING SYSTEM.

CONFIGURATION).
 RATED OUTPUT OF EACH TURBINE IS 34MW.

 THIS FLOOR IS LOCATED AT AN ELEVATION OF 187.25 M.
 IN THE ALTERNATOR OF TLDP-III, THE CONSTRUCTION OF ROTOR IS
SALIENT-POLE TYPE & THE STATOR WINDING IS OF Y-CONNECTED TO LINE.
 IN TLDP-III THE EXCITATION SYSTEM IS STATIC, DIGITAL & CONSTANT-
VOLTAGE TYPE WITH CONTROLLED THYRISTORS.
 SPECIFICATION OF ALTERNATOR: -
RATED SPEED 136.36 RPM
RATED FREQUENCY 50 Hz
RATED OUTPUT 36670 KVA
RATED CURRENT 1924.7 AMP
RATED VOLTAGE 11000 ±10% VOLTS

 THE ELEVATION OF MACHINE HALL IS 190.5M.
 THE MACHINE HALL HAS FOLLOWING INSTALLATIONS: -
1. OPU & GCP
2. EXCITATION CONTROL BOARD.
3. OPU CONTROL BOARD.
4. UNIT CONTROL BOARD.
CONTROL ROOM
 THE ELEVATION OF CONTROL ROOM IS 190.5M.
 THE WHOLE PLANT IS CONTROLLED THROUGH SCADA (SUPERVISORY
CONTROL AND DATAACQUISITION).
 IN TLDP-III THERE ARE TWO SERVER NAMELY SERVER A & SERVER B.
 CONTROL ROOM HAS TWO MORE ROOM, THEY ARE: -
1. BATTERY ROOM
2. LTAC ROOM
LIST OF IMPORTANT INSTALLATIONS IN TLDP-III
WORKING PRESSURE: -
HP COMPRESSOR:- 68 BAR
LP COMPRESSOR:- 7.8 BAR.
ROLE OF HP COMPRESSOR: -
 PROVIDES AIR PRESSURE TO OIL PRESSURE UNIT (OPU)
 AIR IS PROVIDED TO LP COMPRESSOR FROM HP COMPRESSOR.
ROLE OF LP COMPRESSOR: -
 PROVIDES AIR FOR SERVICE.
 PROVIDES PRESSURE TO THE MAINTENANCE SEAL.
 FOR BRAKING PURPOSE.
1. HP & LP COMPRESSOR: -
2. HIGH PRESSURE OIL SYSTEM (HPOS)
 HPOS IS USED TO CREATE AN OIL FILM IN BETWEEN THRUST PAD AND
THRUST COLLAR.
 ROTOR IS ROTATING ON THIS OIL FILM.
 HPOS HAS TWO MOTORS OF SAME RATING.
 ONE OF THEM IS AC AND ANOTHER ONE IS DC MOTOR.
 AT A TIME ONLY ONE IS OPERATED.
3. OPU
 USED TO CONTROL THE RUNNER BLADES AND GUIDE VAN.
 THE OPERATING PRESSURE IS 57 TO 62 BAR.
 IN OPU TANK RATIO OF OIL AND AIR IS IN 60 : 40.
4. TRANSFORMERS
 IN TLDP-III ON THE BASIS OF WORKING THERE ARE SIX TRANSFORMERS
USED FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL UNIT.
THEY ARE AS FOLLOWS: -
1. GENERATOR TRANSFORMER (GT).
2. UNIT AUXILIARY TRANSFORMER (UAT).
3. SERVICE STATION TRANSFORMER (SST).
4. EXCITATION TRANSFORMER (ET).
5. LIGHTING ARRESTER VOLTAGE TRANSFORMER (LAVT).
6. NEUTRAL GROUNDING CUBICLE (NGC).
5.GAS INSULATED SWITCHGEAR
 USED TO CONTROL, PROTECT AND ISOLATE ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT.
 SWITCHGEAR IS THE COMBINATION OF ELECTRICAL SWITCHES, ISOLATORS &
CIRCUIT BREAKERS.
 SULPHUR HEXAFLUORIDE GAS ACT AS THE INSULATING MEDIUM.
6. SUBSTATION
 IN TLDP-III THERE IS A SMALL SUBSTATION ON THE ROOF OF GIS
BUILDING.
 SUBSTATIONS GENERALLY HAVE SWITCHING, PROTECTION AND CONTROL
EQUIPMENT AND TRANSFORMERS.
 THERE ARE TWO NUMBER OUTPUT LINES OF 220 KV.
 NO. OF WAVE TRAP IS FOUR.
7. DEWATERING & DRAINAGE SYSTEM
1. DRAINAGE SYSTEM: -
A. USED TO DRAIN OUT LEAKAGE WATER OF THE PLANT TO THE RIVER.
B. FOR THIS PURPOSE TWO 90 KW MOTOR IS USED.
2. DEWATERING SYSTEM: -
A. USED TO DRAIN OUT WATER IN BETWEEN INTAKE GATE AND DRAFT
TUBE AT THE TIME OF MAINTENANCE.
B. FOR THIS PURPOSE SIX 90 KW MOTOR IS USED.
8. PROTECTION SYSTEM
 VITAL INSTALLATION FOR POWER PLANT.
 IN TLDP-III THERE ARE SEVERAL TYPES OF PROTECTION TO PROTECT
IMPORTANT COMPONENTS USING SEVERAL TYPES OF RELAYS: -
 GENERATOR PROTECTION.
 BUS-BAR PROTECTION.
 TRANSFORMER PROTECTION.
 LINE PROTECTION.
 FIRE FIGHTING SYSTEM: -
 USE OF CO2
 USE OF WATER
CONCLUSION
I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THAT THIS TRAINING IS AN EXCELLENT OPPORTUNITY

THE MAIN OBJECTIVES OF THIS INDUSTRIAL TRAINING ARE TO OBSERVE AND
PRACTICE HOW THE BASIC MACHINE KNOWLEDGE AND ENGINEERING IS
APPLICABLE IN THE REAL INDUSTRIES.
IT IS NOT ONLY TO GET TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE BUT ALSO TO OBSERVE

GENERATOR FLOOR  THIS FLOOR IS LOCATED AT AN ELEVATION OF 187.25 M.  IN THE ALTERNATOR OF TLDP-III, THE CONSTRUCTION OF ROTOR IS SALIENT-POLE TYPE & THE STATOR WINDING IS OF Y-CONNECTED TO LINE.  IN TLDP-III THE EXCITATION SYSTEM IS STATIC, DIGITAL & CONSTANT- VOLTAGE TYPE WITH CONTROLLED THYRISTORS.  SPECIFICATION OF ALTERNATOR: - RATED SPEED 136.36 RPM RATED FREQUENCY 50 Hz RATED OUTPUT 36670 KVA RATED CURRENT 1924.7 AMP RATED VOLTAGE 11000 ±10% VOLTS RATED POWER FACTOR 0.9 RATED FIELD VOLTAGE 118 VOLTS CONNECTION STAR-2 FOLD PARALLEL

  • 11. CONTROL ROOM  THE ELEVATION OF CONTROL ROOM IS 190.5M.  THE WHOLE PLANT IS CONTROLLED THROUGH SCADA (SUPERVISORY CONTROL AND DATAACQUISITION).  IN TLDP-III THERE ARE TWO SERVER NAMELY SERVER A & SERVER B.  CONTROL ROOM HAS TWO MORE ROOM, THEY ARE: - 1. BATTERY ROOM 2. LTAC ROOM
  • 12. LIST OF IMPORTANT INSTALLATIONS IN TLDP-III WORKING PRESSURE: - HP COMPRESSOR:- 68 BAR LP COMPRESSOR:- 7.8 BAR. ROLE OF HP COMPRESSOR: -  PROVIDES AIR PRESSURE TO OIL PRESSURE UNIT (OPU)  AIR IS PROVIDED TO LP COMPRESSOR FROM HP COMPRESSOR. ROLE OF LP COMPRESSOR: -  PROVIDES AIR FOR SERVICE.  PROVIDES PRESSURE TO THE MAINTENANCE SEAL.  FOR BRAKING PURPOSE. 1. HP & LP COMPRESSOR: -
  • 13. 2. HIGH PRESSURE OIL SYSTEM (HPOS)  HPOS IS USED TO CREATE AN OIL FILM IN BETWEEN THRUST PAD AND THRUST COLLAR.  ROTOR IS ROTATING ON THIS OIL FILM.  HPOS HAS TWO MOTORS OF SAME RATING.  ONE OF THEM IS AC AND ANOTHER ONE IS DC MOTOR.  AT A TIME ONLY ONE IS OPERATED.
  • 14. 3. OPU  USED TO CONTROL THE RUNNER BLADES AND GUIDE VAN.  THE OPERATING PRESSURE IS 57 TO 62 BAR.  IN OPU TANK RATIO OF OIL AND AIR IS IN 60 : 40.
  • 15. 4. TRANSFORMERS  IN TLDP-III ON THE BASIS OF WORKING THERE ARE SIX TRANSFORMERS USED FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL UNIT. THEY ARE AS FOLLOWS: - 1. GENERATOR TRANSFORMER (GT). 2. UNIT AUXILIARY TRANSFORMER (UAT). 3. SERVICE STATION TRANSFORMER (SST). 4. EXCITATION TRANSFORMER (ET). 5. LIGHTING ARRESTER VOLTAGE TRANSFORMER (LAVT). 6. NEUTRAL GROUNDING CUBICLE (NGC).
  • 16. 5.GAS INSULATED SWITCHGEAR  USED TO CONTROL, PROTECT AND ISOLATE ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT.  SWITCHGEAR IS THE COMBINATION OF ELECTRICAL SWITCHES, ISOLATORS & CIRCUIT BREAKERS.  SULPHUR HEXAFLUORIDE GAS ACT AS THE INSULATING MEDIUM.
  • 17. 6. SUBSTATION  IN TLDP-III THERE IS A SMALL SUBSTATION ON THE ROOF OF GIS BUILDING.  SUBSTATIONS GENERALLY HAVE SWITCHING, PROTECTION AND CONTROL EQUIPMENT AND TRANSFORMERS.  THERE ARE TWO NUMBER OUTPUT LINES OF 220 KV.  NO. OF WAVE TRAP IS FOUR.
  • 18. 7. DEWATERING & DRAINAGE SYSTEM 1. DRAINAGE SYSTEM: - A. USED TO DRAIN OUT LEAKAGE WATER OF THE PLANT TO THE RIVER. B. FOR THIS PURPOSE TWO 90 KW MOTOR IS USED. 2. DEWATERING SYSTEM: - A. USED TO DRAIN OUT WATER IN BETWEEN INTAKE GATE AND DRAFT TUBE AT THE TIME OF MAINTENANCE. B. FOR THIS PURPOSE SIX 90 KW MOTOR IS USED.

PROTECTION SYSTEM  VITAL INSTALLATION FOR POWER PLANT.  IN TLDP-III THERE ARE SEVERAL TYPES OF PROTECTION TO PROTECT IMPORTANT COMPONENTS USING SEVERAL TYPES OF RELAYS: -  GENERATOR PROTECTION.  BUS-BAR PROTECTION.  TRANSFORMER PROTECTION.  LINE PROTECTION.  FIRE FIGHTING SYSTEM: -  USE OF CO2  USE OF WATER
