Health is defined as the absence of illness from physical, psychic, and social perspectives. There are five main types of illnesses: infection, congenital, hereditary, deficit, and chronic. Infectious diseases spread through four phases - incubation, apparent disease, convalescence, and recovery - but the body fights infections through internal defenses like non-specific and specific defenses and external defenses like vaccination. Non-infectious diseases include cancer and drug addiction which can cause physical, psychological, and social consequences.
4. WHAT IS ILLNESS?
It is an abnormal process which
alters, modifies or prevents the

6. TYPE OF
ILLNESS
ORIGIN
INFECTION It is caused by virus or bacterias.
CONGENITAL They exist at birth
HEREDITARY It is transmitted from parents to their offspring.
DEFICIT It is due to deficit or absence of vitamins, minerals or any other
substances.
CHRONIC It is prolonged in time and they don't have possible cure.
-EPIDEMICS: They are diseases which affect a community (city, region, country...)
- PANDEMICS: Diseases which affect a large territory or more than one continent.
7. We can fight against
illnesses with the methods
below
Treatment with medicines.
Surgical operations.
Vaccination.
8. WHAT DO WE KNOW ABOUT INFECTIOUS DISEASES?
They have 4 phases of
spreading
Incubation phase: the pathogen invades the organism
Apparent disease phase: symptons and signs appear.
Convalescence phase: pathogens have been eliminated.
Recovery: our body is healthy again.
9. But we have defences against
infections, such as:
Internal defences
- Non-specific defences: they attack any kind of microorganisms
- Specific defences: they attack specific microorganisms
External defences:
- Vaccination
10. WHAT ABOUT HEALTH CARE?
About health care we
have to consider there
three levels:
1. Primary care physician.
2. Medical specialist.
3. Hospitalisation.
11. In some cases transplants are required.
The transplant is the transfer of an organ
tissue or group of cells from one individual
to another. It is used for repalcing an organ
or tissue that no longer works.
12. WHAT ARE NON INFECTIOUS DISEASES?
They are diseases such as,
Cancer: it occurs when cells under a
transformation begin to divide in a rapid and
uncontrolled manner.
Drug addiction: It can cause
- Physical dependence.
- Psychological dependence.
It has some consequences like:
Short-term consequences: intoxication.
Medium and long term consequences: dementia, psychosis...
Social consequences
