1. The concept for the pavilion of the Spanish
Ceramic Tile Manufacturer’s Association
«Tile of Spain»
2. The Concept1
The initial direction for the pavilion concept included two main
components:1) the characteristic landscape of the Spanish
mountains; and 2) the art movement of 20th century that was
pioneered by Spanish artists - cubism.
The synthesis of nature and art reflects the principle of creating
ceramic tiles, thus the concept of the pavilion emphasizes the
character of the displayed products.
The complex shape of the elements of the pavilion is created
from simple materials including drywall and plywood sheets on
metal frames. Some panels are made of frosted Plexiglass with
LED backlighting. The surfaces of ceramic tiles are an organic
extension of the concept of the pavilion, symbolizing exposed rock
layers.
