2. Footloose (1984)
Basic primary colours
Symbolic font title of the film to
make it more memorable
One picture of the main character
dancing with his headphones in
which represents the genre of the
film. Slogan adds to the picture
and works on the imagination of
the audience to join the visual
and slogan together.
Production company’s names.
3. Footloose (2011)
Both posters for the new footloose film have one picture from the film of two main
characters in dancing positions and mis en scene from the film. The idea for one
picture keeps the poster classic as that’s how the poster was originally formed. The
title of the film have the same symbolic font to keep it recognisable. Slogan ‘Cut loose’
and ‘This is our time’ and on the other poster ‘There comes a time to cut loose’ add to
the story line. Primary colours and minimal use of technology use to keep it classical.
Reassess date and production companies names.
4. Street Dance 2 (2012)
Bold colour and font of the slogan and
the use of alliteration makes it very eye
catching . The effect of 3D created
through layering represents the format
the film is in. The use of shadow is very
effective. Picture of the two main
characters in a dance position and
dance clothing. Picture of a crowd as a
background.
This poster differs a lot from the
‘Footloose’ poster due to the
technology used; codes and
conventions of slogan, iconic title font
,picture of main characters dancing and
the production companies names in a
small writing.
5. Step Up Revolution (2012)
This poster in contrast to ‘Footloose’
and ‘Street Dance 2’ has a picture of
a group of characters in formation. It
is using more than one picture
however it is still a mis en scene from
the actual film. The use of colour
correction to add colour (purple and
blue) increase the ‘urban’ dance
genre film. Release date ,production
company name, logo and slogan are
included.
6. Step Up 2 (2008)
This poster is also using more than
picture to create a montage of scenes
such as the famous chest popping
dance scene in the rain which is
shown at the bottom. Although the
there are more pictures ;the two main
characters are still shown in their
dance poses which is what all the
posters have in common.
7. Other dance film posters

and conventions I
