to portions of the material
and then dyeing it, then
removing the wax
 Usually done with cotton
cloth
 When the cloth is put into
the dye, the wax parts
aren’t dyed and are left
uncolored
 Wax is then removed by
gently washing it in warm
water

 Most highly developed in Indonesia
 Began as a hobby for royal women
 Certain patterns have special meaning and are thought
to bring the wearer good luck, wealth, prosperity,
health, etc.
