3. Green Day
Green Day – “Oh Love” [Official Lyric Video]
There are Colourful backgrounds these are good to catch the audiences
eye, its also patterned which can disturb certain viewers eyes, it is
patterned as if you wear 3D glasses it becomes 3D. The writing is blue
and white this is good as it stands out on the background and is still bright
and easy to read for the audience.
Green Day – “Oh Love” [Official Video]
There are Female actresses in the video who are all barely dressed, this
can be a negative for certain viewers who don’t agree with nudity. They’re
also doing a live performance in certain clips which I think is positive as it
shows there talent without loads of effects, it also allows the audience to
feel intimate with them.

5. I like…
The fact that there is bright colours in the lyrical video and that
they have a few performance shots of the band in the video.
I would use a couple of performance shots in my music video
during the main guitar bits.
6. All American Rejects
All American Rejects – Dirty Little Secret
They’re performing throughout the video during certain clips,
this is an aspect I would use in my video for things such as
guitar solos. They’ve also got written cards throughout the
video which represent the song and peoples feelings, I also
like this idea and it is something I will use. We also see it is set
outside and in a garage looking area, I would choose also to
shoot mine indoors and outdoors to show a contrast of the
lighting and the use you can get from different backgrounds.
7. All American Rejects – Dirty Little
Secret
All these signs throughout
the video are to do with
representing what the song
means.
8. I like…
The fact that there is written cards inspired me for my video
due to the drawings on the cards and the way they’re
expressed. This is what I will want to use in my video, I also
like the fact there are scenes shot indoors and outdoors.
9. Blink-182
Blink-182 – I Miss You
We can see it is set in dark rooms which show the type of
video and genre it is, there are also performance parts in it
which I think are positive as it gives the audience a feel of the
band, there is also jump cuts between each shot no proper
continuity involved. This music video includes a lot of close up
shots of the instruments and people as well which helps show
them off a bit better, showing their detail and importance.
10. Blink-182 – Miss You
In these shots we can see
the dark scenes and the
dark make up used.
11. I like…
I like the setting of the darker rooms and surroundings and this
is a possible idea I may use in my video due to it meeting the
conventions of a punk rock video and as it shows the emotion
of the song better.
12. Misfits
Mistfits - Dig Up Her Bones
Throughout this video we see multiple shots of skeletons
possibly representing different things to different people but me
personally I represent it as death, this has its positive and
negative sides to it. There is also live performances happening
throughout it interacting the audience also. There is a grim
reaper shown multiple times also linking in with the death
factor. They’re surrounded by darker scenes which I find is
positive as it shows the mood of the song. They also have
other coloured lightening including green. They have black and
white shots also, this shows the age of the video or the
possible emotion.
13. Misfits – Dig Up Her Bones
In these shots we can see the different effects the
video has including the black and white and the
performance. This is an idea I would like to use of a
live performer in my video.
14. I like…
The fact they use different lightings to show different bits and
they also use live performances which I have taken an interest
to so for roughly 20 seconds of my video I shall have a guitar
playing
15. Nirvana
Nirvana – Come As You Are
To begin with they start of under the water and this is repeated
throughout the video, I like the shots under the water because
it gives a different background to what you usually see, this is
something I would use. They also have many close up
instruments shots but there seems to mainly be guitar shots
this is another element I want to add in my video as I am
having a guitarist play the guitar pauses found in the song.
Finally the transitions between each shot are fades these is a
different element which I may use, it is different to other videos
I’ve seen.
16. Nirvana – Come As You Are
In this video we can see
certain shots are in the
water, there is also seen
a close up of a guitar.
These are 2 ideas I am
going to use.
17. I like…
I like both the water shots and the guitar shots, this inspired
me to want to use these in my video, I shall film certain shots
under the water and the guitar close ups will allow me to
emphasis the guitars important at that time.
18. Billy Talent
Billy Talent – Nothing To Lose
In this video we see its laid out in a black and white theme, this
shows the emotion in the video which is to do with suicide. The
camera angles are shot from either the first person angle
(main) but occasionally you see the character from behind. I
personally like this feature and I would use it for certain shots.
There is a performance cutting between the narrative and this
just takes the audiences mind of what is happening for a few
seconds. We see that it is set in a school environment, this
allows the audience to feel the band and how they made the
video and song, we see its to do with bullying and schools are
the main location for this.
19. Billy Talent – Nothing To Lose
In this video we
see the setting of
black and white
and the first
persons shots
looking at a note
book.
20. I like…
I like the meaning behind the song itself it has a strong
meaning. They have a black and white theme happening
through out, this probably shows the meaning of the video
more so but I wouldn’t personally chose to use it. They also
have a first person view, this is something I would use for
certain shots to link with the lyrics. They have certain
performance clips, I shall use this feature as previously stated.
21. Overall
Looking at the videos above we see a variation of lyrical video
and narrative/performance videos.
This shows the conventions of a punk rock music video are
darker settings, bright coloured writing, pictures and many
jump cuts.
From these videos I have gotten ideas for my video and this
means that I shall be following the conventions of a punk rock
video more so then if I had thought of my own ideas.
