European artists migrated to America
• After the war Europe struggled to recover
,yet slow moving society was rapidly
changing new machines-the automobile,
airplane, telephone were growing and so
were poverty, overpopulation,
unemployment etc.
• These events produced a general sense
of anxiety, tension, alienation etc.
• Thus there was a need of self expression,
as a result of the political and social
changes taking place in Europe
• This led to the starting of an art
movement with New York as its
epicentre.
