1. Daft Punk

2. • Consists of two French musicians – Guy-Manuel
de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter.
• The duo met in 1987 while at school in Paris. The
two became good friends and formed a band
called Darlin’ with Laurent Brancowitz in 1992.
• A bad review in Melody Maker dubbed their
music ‘a bunch of daft punk’.
• The band soon disbanded, leaving Bangalter and
de Homem-Christo to form Daft Punk and
experiment with drum machines and
synthesizers.

3. • The duo met the directors of a small Scottish
techno label called Soma at a giant rave at
Eurodisney in 1993.
• A year later Daft punk released their debut
single, which proved a bit hit with the British
music press.
• The group became a pioneering force in the
techno/house scene, integrating elements of
other musical styles such as disco, rock and
groove, moving away from the pure house sound
which originated in Chicago.

4. • Daft Punk returned to the studio in May 1995
and recorded ‘Da Funk’, a techno/dance/rock
instrumental which catapulted them to the
forefront of the international dance scene.
• The duo were suddenly in demand, and spent
the following year touring Europe.
• They were particularly popular on the London
dance scene.

5. • The duo’s fame began to spread beyond the
underground rave scene, and they were
signed by Virgin records in 1996.
• Their hit ‘Musique’ was included on a
compilation on Virgin’s techno label, Source.
• Daft Punk went on to set up their own label,
Daft Trax to control their own productions.

6. • In 1997, they released their debut album,
‘Homework’. It was distributed in 35 countries
and sold over 2 million copies in just a few
months.
• They released a new single, ‘Around the
World’ in April of the same year, which
rocketed to the top of the European charts,
and also became a huge hit in the American
charts.

7. • Daft Punk went on to release ‘Discovery’ in 2001.
After two weeks of sale the album had sold over
1.2 million copies.
• In 2004, they released ‘Human After All’ .
• The next few years included greatest hits
releases, and a mini worldwide tour, attracting
crowds of around 35,000.
• In 2010, the duo composed the soundtrack for
Walt Disney’s Tron, in which they married
synthesizers with a symphony orchestra.
