2. Carbon dioxide and other gases warm the
surface of the planet naturally by trapping solar
heat in the atmosphere. This is a good thing
because it keeps our planet habitable. However,
by burning fossil fuels such as coal, gas and oil
and clearing forests we have dramatically
increased the amount of carbon dioxide in the
Earth’s atmosphere and temperatures are rising.
3. The vast majority of scientists agree that global warming is real, it’s already happening and
that it is the result of our activities and not a natural occurrence.1 The evidence is
overwhelming and undeniable
4. We’re already seeing changes. Glaciers are
melting, plants and animals are being forced
from their habitat, and the number of severe
storms and droughts is increasing.
5. “Diesel takes on global warming as only they can… making their latest campaign
poignant yet subtle, stylish yet absurd. Focusing on people and places… and claiming
that “GLOBAL WARMING CANT STOP OUR LIVES” ~ and thus begins the series of
images below, about how although the polar ice caps are melting, etc you can still
look good and embrace the heat… “
12. The rapid temperature increase is very similar
to the rapid world population increase.

an ominous
reminder that the
polar bear's
habitat is literally
floating away. And
that ours will
follow suit.

15. The number of Category 4 and 5 hurricanes
has almost doubled in the last 30 years.2

Patagonia, Argentina 2004. 76 years of climate
change. Then, and now
17. Hurricanes aren't the only severe weather conditions that global
warming stirs up—massive dust clouds like this one are becoming
more frequent, and more violent, in regions like Southern Africa.
18. By reducing pollution from vehicles and power
plants. Right away, we should put existing
technologies for building cleaner cars and more
modern electricity generators into widespread
use. We can increase our reliance on renewable
energy sources such as wind, sun and
geothermal. And we can manufacture more
efficient appliances and conserve energy.
19. Waterfall spouting from the ice
edge of Brasvell Glacier. Glaciers
in the Arctic aren't supposed to
do that. Glacial waterfalls like this
one have been erupting with
alarming frequency in Arctic
regions--and is as good an image
as any to wrap this slide show
with. After all, when centuries-
old chunks of ice start melting in
the Arctic, it's hard to deny we've
got ourselves a big problem.
