2. What have you learnt about technologies from the
process of constructing this product?
Through the process of creating my media product I have found out about how many technologies
go into producing a media text. The main piece of new technology I have learned about from the
production of my magazine is Photoshop and how much of a key component it is in the making of
print based media products. I have gone from not using it at all to now being quite able at it and now
I know the basics, I feel that I would still know nothing about it if I had not been asked to create a
magazine for media.
Another technology I learned how to use is blogger, this tool was very helpful along with slide share
for uploading my research and plans and all coursework related things. Although these things could
have been done without the use of blogger and slide share as we could have just printed out and
handed in all our work. But in doing so work could get lost or damaged so blogger and slide share
were a key component in my coursework.
Although I already knew how to use a camera, I had never used a camera quite like the ones we
used to photograph our models for our magazines. These cameras were a lot more advanced than
that of those I had used before. They had a lot more settings and a manual focus. In doing so it
taught me that if the setting was too dark or too bring I had to change the exposure where
appropriate. Such as when I was taking a picture outside and it was very bright I needed to lower the
exposure.
I already knew how to used Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint and Google Chrome, but in
the production of my media product and during the research stages and the evaluation my used of
these products has been made more efficient as I was constantly using them.
3. During the production and research stages I have realised the need for a memory stick, as it made it easier
for me to take my work with me wherever I went and reduced the risk of work not being saved properly.
The positives of using technology is that it has allowed me to make a more advanced product than I would
have been able to do before, which is more aesthetically pleasing due to the vast amount of resources out
there that are widely available, such as fonts websites (dafont) , Photoshop and the quality of the cameras
that I have used. If I had not have these resources available to me then the end product of my magazine
would not have been very good compared to what I have now.
Some negative points of technology is that it can sometimes be unreliable, for instance computers can crash
before you get a chance to save you work, therefore all that work that you have done could get erased. It can
also sometimes be very difficult to find the information you need, as some places may give you false
information or you cannot just find what you need.
