Retail Store Visit at Bag Full MART

Introduction
A store's layout is one of the key strategies in its success--therefore, a lot of time, effort and manpower
go into its design. Retailers use layout to influence customer's behavior by designing the store's flow,
merchandise placement and ambience.
If the customer is accustomed to walking through a store at a certain pace, it is important to slow down
this speed deliberately, effectively and gradually. This can be achieved by means of certain 'tools'. It does
not need to involve a different layout of the available space.
A good layout provides you with the opportunity of influencing store turnover. The appropriate shelf
layout, the arrangement of the product range or a well-thought out spot for special offers all have a direct
effect on turnover. So a good layout may very well create a boom in a store's turnover!
To understand retail store more clearly, our batch Core Marketing-1 (2017 - 2019) visited Bagfull MART
retail store on 16 March 2018. The visit to the store gave me better understanding which can be known
in the following report through these points:
1. Store layout and Design
Bagfull mart is built in 11,000 sq. ft. which is grid layout. The objective of Bagfull mart store design is:
a) Increase sales on a visit.
b) Profit maximization.
c) Controlling cost.
d) Bagfull mart should meet legal requirements.
e) Giving customer's a good shopping experience.
f) Building customer loyalty.
g) Customer retention.
h) Less Shrinkage.
i) To guide the customer in an entire store.
j) Attracting more number of customers.
2. Signage’s and feature areas used
Bagfull mart uses various signage’s which are as follows:
1. Category Signage: Bagfull mart uses category signage to identify types of products offered by them,
they are usually located near the goods to which they refer.
b) Promotional Signage: This signage is used by Bagfull mart to describe special offers and to entice the
customer into the store.
c) Point of sale signage: Point-of-sale signs are placed near the merchandise by Bagfull mart, so that
customers know its price and other detailed information.
Bagfull mart uses various feature area’s which are as follows:
1. Windows: Bagfull uses window displays to draw customers into the store and provide a visual
message about the type of merchandise offered in the store.
2. Entrances: Bagfull entry area plays a prominent role in creating an image, the first 10 feet used by the
store is often referred to as the “decompression zone,” because customers are making an adjustment to
the new environment: escaping from the noisy street or mall, taking off their sunglasses, closing their
umbrellas, and developing a visual impression of the entire store.
3. End caps: Bagfull uses end caps for higher-margin, impulse merchandise. End caps displays located at
the end of an aisle in stores using a grid layout. Due to the high visibility of end caps, sales of a product
increase dramatically when that merchandise is featured on an end cap.

4. Promotional aisle: Bagfull mart uses promotional aisle or promotional area is a space used to display
merchandise that is being promoted.
5. Cash wraps: Bagfull mart uses cash wraps, also known as point-of-purchase (POP) counters or checkout
areas, as places in the store where customers can purchase merchandise. Because many customers go to
these areas and may wait in line to make a purchase, Bagfull mart often use these areas to display impulse
items.
Fixtures:
Bagfull mart uses various types of fixtures such as Rounder, Gondolas, straight rack & four-way fixture.
3. Visual Merchandising
Visual merchandising is the presentation of Bagfull mart store and its merchandise is in that way that will
attract the attention of potential customers which are as follows:
a. Store logic and presentation technique adopted by Bagfull mart
The space within Bagfull mart store and on the stores shelves and fixtures is a scarce resource. Space
management of Bagfull mart involves on two resource decisions the allocation of store space to
merchandise categories and brands 28 and the location of departments or merchandise categories in the
store. Bagfull mart uses various presentation techniques that is idea-oriented presentation, Item & size
presentation, tonnage merchandising, price lining, frontal presentation, vertical merchandising, etc.
4. Private label brands at Bagfull Mart
Bagfull mart has more private unknown brand as compared to known brands.
Bagfull mart sells all groceries items as their private label brand.
5. Community influence on Bagfull Mart
 Bagfull mart has establish community within their retail space, as they are authentic and
transparent. Their key is to establish a strong brand identity to guide their values.
 Talk about your community on social media, but in an organic way that shares your excitement
about the community. You don’t need to overtly persuade people to join; simply seeing the
community you’ve cultivated in action could be enough.
 When customers shop in-store, offer an easy way for them to sign up for your email list. Then,
email them about your community, community events and other content related to your
community.
 Promote your community on your website, whether you sell online or not. Maintain a calendar
with your events, share photos of your community, talk about accomplishments your
community has made, and publish blog posts about your community group.

  • 2. Introduction A store's layout is one of the key strategies in its success--therefore, a lot of time, effort and manpower go into its design. Retailers use layout to influence customer's behavior by designing the store's flow, merchandise placement and ambience. If the customer is accustomed to walking through a store at a certain pace, it is important to slow down this speed deliberately, effectively and gradually. This can be achieved by means of certain 'tools'. It does not need to involve a different layout of the available space. A good layout provides you with the opportunity of influencing store turnover. The appropriate shelf layout, the arrangement of the product range or a well-thought out spot for special offers all have a direct effect on turnover. So a good layout may very well create a boom in a store's turnover! To understand retail store more clearly, our batch Core Marketing-1 (2017 - 2019) visited Bagfull MART retail store on 16 March 2018. The visit to the store gave me better understanding which can be known in the following report through these points: 1. Store layout and Design Bagfull mart is built in 11,000 sq. ft. which is grid layout. The objective of Bagfull mart store design is: a) Increase sales on a visit. b) Profit maximization. c) Controlling cost. d) Bagfull mart should meet legal requirements. e) Giving customer's a good shopping experience. f) Building customer loyalty. g) Customer retention. h) Less Shrinkage. i) To guide the customer in an entire store. j) Attracting more number of customers.

  • 4. 2. Signage’s and feature areas used Bagfull mart uses various signage’s which are as follows: 1. Category Signage: Bagfull mart uses category signage to identify types of products offered by them, they are usually located near the goods to which they refer. b) Promotional Signage: This signage is used by Bagfull mart to describe special offers and to entice the customer into the store.
  • 5. c) Point of sale signage: Point-of-sale signs are placed near the merchandise by Bagfull mart, so that customers know its price and other detailed information. Bagfull mart uses various feature area’s which are as follows: 1. Windows: Bagfull uses window displays to draw customers into the store and provide a visual message about the type of merchandise offered in the store.

Entrances: Bagfull entry area plays a prominent role in creating an image, the first 10 feet used by the store is often referred to as the “decompression zone,” because customers are making an adjustment to the new environment: escaping from the noisy street or mall, taking off their sunglasses, closing their umbrellas, and developing a visual impression of the entire store. 3. End caps: Bagfull uses end caps for higher-margin, impulse merchandise. End caps displays located at the end of an aisle in stores using a grid layout. Due to the high visibility of end caps, sales of a product increase dramatically when that merchandise is featured on an end cap. 4.
  • 7. 4. Promotional aisle: Bagfull mart uses promotional aisle or promotional area is a space used to display merchandise that is being promoted. 5. Cash wraps: Bagfull mart uses cash wraps, also known as point-of-purchase (POP) counters or checkout areas, as places in the store where customers can purchase merchandise. Because many customers go to these areas and may wait in line to make a purchase, Bagfull mart often use these areas to display impulse items.
  • 8. Fixtures: Bagfull mart uses various types of fixtures such as Rounder, Gondolas, straight rack & four-way fixture. 3. Visual Merchandising Visual merchandising is the presentation of Bagfull mart store and its merchandise is in that way that will attract the attention of potential customers which are as follows: a. Store logic and presentation technique adopted by Bagfull mart The space within Bagfull mart store and on the stores shelves and fixtures is a scarce resource. Space management of Bagfull mart involves on two resource decisions the allocation of store space to merchandise categories and brands 28 and the location of departments or merchandise categories in the

Bagfull mart uses various presentation techniques that is idea-oriented presentation, Item & size presentation, tonnage merchandising, price lining, frontal presentation, vertical merchandising, etc. 4. Private label brands at Bagfull Mart Bagfull mart has more private unknown brand as compared to known brands.
  • 10. Bagfull mart sells all groceries items as their private label brand. 5. Community influence on Bagfull Mart  Bagfull mart has establish community within their retail space, as they are authentic and transparent. Their key is to establish a strong brand identity to guide their values.  Talk about your community on social media, but in an organic way that shares your excitement about the community. You don’t need to overtly persuade people to join; simply seeing the community you’ve cultivated in action could be enough.  When customers shop in-store, offer an easy way for them to sign up for your email list. Then, email them about your community, community events and other content related to your community.  Promote your community on your website, whether you sell online or not. Maintain a calendar with your events, share photos of your community, talk about accomplishments your community has made, and publish blog posts about your community group.
