- 3. Fire exits – there are 3 fire exits. 1 in reception and 2 in the main office by the window. Fire emergency assembly point is located on the corner of Warner St and Eyre St Hill. Opposite left hand side of the office. Toilets are located in reception and at the back of the building. Harriet is our resident first aider if required. - This is John Ambrose Fleming, he was an electrical engineer and physicist. In 1903 he was giving a public demonstration of wireless telegraphy technology Nevil Maskelyne intercepted the messages and started broadcasting insulting morse code messages through the auditoriums projector. This was the first recorded hack in history.
- For the next 90 years, Hacking was always considered to be a negative action. Something done to disrupt momentum of organizations, steal data, or win wars.
- In the 1990’s everything changed. The term “Hackathon” was first coined by OpenBSD and Sun Microsystems in 1999 It is used to describe the playful manipulation of programming to solve problems
- Now, some of the biggest companies in the world are built from the foundations of the hacking mentality. Move fast, break things.
- Google give engineers the opportunity to work on side projects, dubbed ‘20 percent’ Dedicated time for their employees to hack, prototype, and experiment with new ideas. But not every hack see’s the light of day.
- When hacking, there is no such thing as failure. The majority of hack projects will never see a public release, and that’s cool. Because the reasons we hack aren’t defined by business, we do it because we want to learn. We want to collaborate, experiment, and expand our creative thinking.
- Most importantly, hacking is fun. We get to solve problems as a collective, tackling briefs without the constraints of budgets, technologies, or brand guidelines. And that’s why we’ve decided to host the Hack Festival, we want you all to be able to build upon your ideas.
- We’ve got a great selection of tech here today, including; 2 Parrot AR Drones, Google Glass, Oculus Rift, LEAP Motions, Makey Makey’s, various Tablets and Mobiles, and Arduino kits. It’s all located on our device bench by the sofa’s.
