Teenage Pregnancy
The Effects of Teenage Pregnancy
Pregnancy is beautiful; however, for a teenager it can be a philosophical event with long term
implications. Wall–Wieler stated that, "Teenage pregnancy is having at least one pregnancy between
the ages of 14 and 19 (inclusive)" (4). Such a situation for teenagers comes with many obstacles.
Adolescence would lose the opportunity to fully enjoy their teen years. This is a once in a lifetime
experience, which would be cut short because of engaging in adult activities. There is also the
possibility of frustration, depression and confusion because the situation might be too much to
handle. In most cases, teen pregnancy will have a negative effect on the pregnant teen because it
will force them to be fully committed to the concerns and needs of the child while neglecting their
own.
In the same fashion, teen mothers would face the challenge of changing their life style to
accompany a child. Some teenagers will miss out on their education; this could mean not going to
school or potentially dropping out of school permanently to take care of their baby. According to
Huffman, "Only 32 percent of teen mothers have graduated from high school–that is, have received a
regular high school diploma–by age 30, compared with over 84 percent of women who delay
motherhood. This figure is not surprising; the presence of a young child makes it very difficult for
teen mothers to continue their education" (56). When a child drops out of school they are prone to

There is a lack of communication between parents and their teenagers. Either their relationship are
too weak or too strong between teens and their parents (Speedy Remedies) . Weak relationships
involve lack of discipline, control, affection, and attention. Too strong relationships involve
overbearing parents and too many restrictions. Drinking and drugs contributes to pregnancy because
they contort better judgment. The media is the main contributor now that technology is advancing.
Young people often look to the media in order to see what the so–called trend is or they look for
how they should look, act, or be. Occasionally, abuse is the result of teenage pregnancy. The results
of this trend are everlasting, dramatic, and sometimes traumatic. The relationship between a parent
and there is important. If the relationship is too weak or too overbearing the child can either not
feel loved or obedient, which ultimately result in the child seeking for love in all of the wrong
places. The media offers little sex education and is offering more vulgar images of how a young girl
is supposed dress and carry them; therefore, teens act older than they usually would. Teen pregnancy
is usually unwanted so this increases the number of abortions, neglect, and child abuse. It increases
complications for the mother as well as the baby. Complications may involve maternal death, birth
defects, or the death of the baby. It also makes it hard for students to complete

"Over one million teenage girls become pregnant each year. In the next 24 hours, about 3,312 girls
will become pregnant. In addition, 43% of all adolescents become pregnant before the age of 20.
These are incredible statistics when you consider that there are only 31 million females. The United
States has the highest adolescent pregnancy rate in the developed world. As statistics show one in
nine women between the ages of 15 through 19 become pregnant each year. Also, every 26 seconds
a teenage girl becomes pregnant and every 56 seconds a child of a teenage mother is born."

By having all these new problems to deal with without a fully developed maturity the mother can
also suffer from emotional and mental stagnation. Her peers may reject her as society deems
teenage pregnancy unacceptable. She may feel humiliated and ashamed after her pregnancy
begins to show, so then she refuses to finish school and as a result she lessens her ability to
effectively raise her child. When teenage mother are pregnant, they are the least likely of all
maternal age groups to get early and regular prenatal care. There are many teen mothers who
receive late or no prenatal care at all. After giving birth, the majority of girls drop out of school in
order to care of the baby. If there is no one else to share the endless amount of work, she must
assume full responsibility. She may be forced to pursue employment with a minimal of earning
potential due to her lack of education. This scenario tends to breed an unstable and financially
insecure parent, and the child may also suffer from neglect by the constantly working mother.
The teenage social experience is a fundamental stage of development. How a teenager develops
socially dictates how effective she will be as an adult. Through interaction with peers, a teenager
learns about herself. This is an important period of time to construct personal identity. If this period
is cut short, she will not be competent to meet the challenges that come with raising a child.
Teenagers also tend have poor eating

The constant rise of adolescent fertility across nations has proven to be a major contributing factor
to a cycle of dependency which deteriorates economic growth. Evidently, the younger generation
represents the larger population of Belize and as suggested by a report, commissioned by the United
Nations, Belize encompasses the highest rate of teenage pregnancy in the Caribbean followed by
Guyana and Jamaica. Based on the media perspective, teenage pregnancy is a rising issue in Belize
that should be taken more seriously. It's an epidemic ruining lives and perpetuating poverty.

However, due to educational programs such as "YES, IT VET, CET and Social Services"
opportunities for upliftment becomes possible. These programs are designed to educate and
prepare young individuals for a better life. Secondly, the media highlights the contributing factors
of teenage pregnancy. Based on a study done in South Africa, the inadequate knowledge of
contraception is a major factor contributing to teenage pregnancy. Parents are very hesitant when it
comes to educating their children about sex and the use of contraception. The majority believe that
their children will eventually learn on their own as time pass by or they don't believe children
should even know about adult activities since sex and contraceptive usage is considered an "adult
thing." Lacking the knowledge of sex and contraceptive usage can definitely lead to teenage
pregnancy because both parties are unaware of the consequence that follows their actions. Another
factor is alcohol and vanity. Luxurious lifestyles cause most teenagers to sadly stumble unto the
path of prostitution as well and often becoming impregnated and drop out of school. Being a mom
at an early age due to fast living can also lead to contraction of life–threatening diseases such as HIV
/AIDS which could also be an addition to teenage pregnancy. Having been sick with HIV/AIDS and
pregnant is not the combination any mother would ever dream about especially

Teen Pregnancy
Teenage pregnancy is one of many issues that the United States has. It is one issue that can be fixed
easily and should be waited upon until teens are married and know what they are doing with their
lives. This issue came about in the early in the 1950's – 1960's. Teen pregnancy is a teenage girl
between the ages 13–19 (girls who haven't reached adulthood) having unwanted or wanted babies.
Janet Bode once stated in her book, "Emotions run everywhere, scared, sad, disappointment and
preparation for what is about to happen" (Bode 51). If we do not act now, teen pregnancy will be out
the roof. Teen pregnancy needs a stop put to it no matter what, teens are still children themselves and
they are still learning how to take care of themselves:
"One of the major concerns of having a child or becoming a parent is to do so when you're old and
mature enough to take on the responsibility. One of the problems in today's society is teenage
pregnancy. The risk of pregnancy in teenagers is increasing largely. Many teenagers don't know
how big of a responsibility it is to raise another human being when they themselves still have a lot
of growing to do. Teenagers need to be more educated about themselves and their bodies as well as
ways to protect themselves from getting pregnant if they're sexually active. Also, teenagers are
more prone to risks during a pregnancy than a twenty or thirty year old woman would be. Becoming
a teen parent automatically gives you a big responsibility to deal

Persuasive Essay About Teen Pregnancy
Teen pregnancy......what comes in mind when you hear the words "Teen Pregnancy"? Well, teen
pregnancy are young female girls that become pregnant under the age of 20. A female can become
pregnant from having sexual intercourse and after she have started to ovulate. Young female girls
will become pregnant without even thinking about the consequences and the type of environment
the baby will be in. Not because the young mother is poor or rich, but because they're not ready to
take care of another human being. Not to mention, pregnant teens are young themselves, so their also
growing. There are plenty of problems that are the cause of teen pregnancy, and many of those
problems can be solved.
One reason for teen pregnancy is the lack of information that is given to students in middle and high
school about sex and how to prevent it from happening. Also, the lack amount of talks from parents
that they can give to their teen. I wouldn't say there isn't any education given out to students about
sex, but there isn't ENOUGH to make pre–teens and teens to fully understand and have the right
mind set about sex. Many schools won't really focus on the topic about teen pregnancy because it
really doesn't have much about academics and that's really understandable, but at the end of the day
teens are also human and do make mistakes. I believe schools should give education about teen
pregnancy as much as the other subjects. The topic of teen pregnancy shouldn't be left out because
talking to your teen about sex can definitely influence their lifestyle. Many teens would learn about
sex in the streets which it totally horrible because 9/10, the streets will educate them to have sex
rather than not to. The solution to this problem is that parents and schools should educate their teens
/students with more education about teen pregnancy, so that the number pregnant teens can decrease
in near future.
Another reason for teen pregnancy is social media. Social media can have a huge impact on how
teens can view their lives by influencing them with a different kind of lifestyle. Not to mention,
teens can easily be brainwashed by what they see on there and think what they see on social media
is good, is actually wrong. Social media will have

Teenage pregnancy is a huge problem that the United States faces today. Amongst other countries the
United States has the highest rates of teen pregnancy (Ayadi, Kuo, Adams &
Gavin, 2010; Minnick & Shandler, 2011). In the year 2015 the Center for Disease Control &
Prevention (CDC) reported that the birth rate was twenty two point three per thousand for young
women ages 15–19 (2015). It also stated that of births to single women were to teenage mothers in
2009 (Ayadi et al., 2010). 14 million babies are born worldwide each year to mothers between ages

has been researched vigorously over the past 3 decades (Hurd & Zimmerman, 2010). It has been

The likelihood of a teenager becoming pregnant can be due to a number of influencing factors. One
of those factors being that teen moms now have grown up in poverty or low income with little to no
access to a good education or good employment; it is seen at the norm in that environment (Hurd &
Zimmerman, 2010; Lopoo, 2011). Teenage motherhood is also more accustomed among the minority
populations (Lopoo, 2011). It is said that this is because certain minority groups don't have sanctions
against teen pregnancy (Mollborn, 2010).
Teens may also become pregnant because they do not have the proper education and information on
sexual health/pregnancy prevention or they may have none at all. It is presumed that the most of
teenage pregnancies are unexpected and accidental (McKay & Barrett, 2010). Majority of schools
tend to use abstinence– only education and only educate about contraceptive failure. Another thing
to consider is the parents, some parents may be giving their teen the wrong information because
they may have been taught wrong or they may just find it hard and uncomfortable to talk about so
they won't say anything at all to correct what their teen think is true about sex and pregnancy. Teens
also get the wrong idea about sex through the media because even though it portrays sex heavily it
rarely portrays the bad side effects of having sex such as STD's/

Teenage pregnancy is one of the issues in our country today. It is a major problem because many
teenagers are not aware that having a child when you're a child yourself comes with big
responsibilities. Sometimes many teenagers feel like they must be sexual active to prove a point
and sometimes teenagers are even pressured by their friends or even their soul mate. Teenage
pregnancy is a very big problem and more needs to be done to prevent teen pregnancy and to educate
teens about its consequences.
A lot of places and people exist that teens can go to for information about teenage pregnancy. One of
the first places that teens can go to would be school because in school they provide classes that talks

Parents have already seen and have been through situations when they were teenagers, so they
would know what to say and would know how you feel because they were once teens. So, talking to
a parent can be helpful because they know what true love is and know how hard it is to raise A baby
at such a young age and because of that they would like for their children to know about it and that
it's a major problem to be involved in. Parents also can give you good advice on not worrying about
boys or kids while being a teen and to focus on making good decisions by staying in school and
having a good career for yourself.
In the same way doctors, can also communicate with teenagers about what they can do to stay
away from pregnancy. Doctors help teenagers by talking to them a showing them what can
happen to them by having unprotected sex and its consequences. They explain to teens that
having unprotected sex could leave them with a sexual transmitted disease or even a child that
could mess their life up. The "Providers can offer sexually active teens a broad range of
contraceptive methods and encourage them to use the most effective methods" (Best). Going to
the doctors is always a good choice because they give teens a brief explanation on teen pregnancy
and goes over all its roles on why you don't want to be a mother at such an early age. Teens

Abstract
Nearly all teen pregnancies are unplanned, however teen pregnancy is becoming an epidemic. A lot
of teens do not realize that having sex can bring on a lot of responsibilities. In most case scenarios,
on average, adolescences say they did not want to get pregnant or cause a pregnancy. When you read
about different statics about teen pregnancy, that alone is reason enough to create preventing
programs about teen pregnancy. Knowing that teen pregnancy is closely linked to a host of other
critical social issue, e.g. poverty, income, overall child well–being, health issue, education, just to
name a few. There are also substantial public costs associated with adolescent childbearing.
Consequently, teen pregnancy should be viewed not only as a reproductive health issue, but as one
that works to improve these measures.

pregnancy, is defined as being a young female under the age of 20 years of age. Teen pregnancy is a

I chose to do my controversial essay on teen pregnancy. Did you know
that in the United States of America, we have the highest rate of teen births in the
world? Well each year in the United States, more than 300,000 babies will be
born to teenage mothers who have not even finished high school yet. More than
half of these mothers have not even finished the ninth grade even. Many
teenagers do not consider the risks involved with sexual intercourse. Teenagers
who are responsible to have a sexual relationship, are responsible to consider
the risks involved. It is very easy to get pregnant without using proper protection.
Teenagers who practice premarital sex have a 90% chance of...show more content...
Most of them
are single mothers. The rest, fewer then 100,000, put their babies up for adoption. Around 450,000
American teenagers get abortions every year. Many
teenage parents who care to raise their children end up as high school drop outs,
unmarried, and have a long term effect on poverty and reliance of welfare.
Why are teen pregnancy rates rising in the United States? Som people
say that sex education classes in school are not teaching enough information
about teen pregnancy and how to prevent it. Sex education classes are failing.
When we look at the rates of what is happening to the American teenagers, we
can only say that sex education is not doing good at all.
Others say things like, "it is not the sex education, teenagers are faced with
conflicting messages from television, school, and among peers." The lack of
information is related to te problem of teen pregnancy.
I don't believe that sex education has failed at all. Te lack of information is
related to the problem of teenage pregnancy. Sex education has not failed
because there are programs That go beyond school boards, such as "the

women in this age group. This is another record low for U.S. teens and a drop of 8% from 2014.
Birth rates fell 9% for women aged 15–17 years and 7% for women aged 18–19 years." Teenage

Sadly for most teenage mothers this isn't attainable. You never picture the fight with being such a
young mother. Teen Mom enables the viewers to see the battles of being pregnant at such a
young age. Kaitlyn Lowry, who at age 17 allowed MTV to film the pregnancy and birth of her
first child, is an incredible exemplar of how having a child at a very young age influences your
life so enormously. She said," I was given a blessing but I still haven't gotten my bachelor's
degree, because, one, daycare is so expensive and, two, how do you balance studying and having a
little one at home?" (Gonchar and Schulten). Before MTV made the Teen Mom show, teens were
not able to easily endure life as a teen mother. The simplest tasks turn into milestones when you're a
young mother. This kind of television show is a creative approach to relay informative information
to teens. Melissa Kearney, University of Maryland economics professor and director of the
Brookings Institution's Hamilton Project, has a great point of view on this subject. She states,
"Soap operas and prime time dramas have dabbled in 'edutainment' for years; now it may be time to
get down and dirty with more reality programs; but without trying too hard" (Schneider). Teenage

values in a child and give them all the love and attention that they deserve, but the Republican
platform of abstinence–only education leaves too much to chance and sets young people up for

Since Palin's daughter, Bristol, has become pregnant she can no longer think about prom and
graduation like a typical teenager, but instead she needs to worry about possible marriage and
motherhood. Mathis disputes that a parent can instill good values in a child, but if the government,
namely Republicans fail to realize that, at some point, these children mature and make their own
decisions, without having the proper education in areas such as sex education these children are not
going to be able to make rational decisions on the choices that they are given. Abstinence–only
education leaves too much to chance and sets young people up for failure. It does not give them
realistic choices to make respectable decisions. Mathis feels that if a class that talks about the
importance of condoms could prevent an unplanned pregnancy, why not add it to the school's
program. Removing it from the curriculum does not discourage young people from having sex; it
puts them at risk for unwanted pregnancies and STDs when having sex.
Edelman claims that teenage pregnancy is everybody's problem and not just one political party or
another. Everyone needs to pull together and steer teenagers toward positive life choices so they can
avoid getting pregnant in the first place. Edelman states that most Americans, whether liberal or
conservative should be able to agree that it is in everyone's best

Teenagers insist on having sex at a very tender age resulting to an increase in pregnancies in some
countries, especially in developing countries. However, in the developed countries such as the
United States of America, there is a decrease in teenage pregnancies in accordance to the Center for
Disease Control and Prevention. However, parents are leaving in denial that the teenagers are not
having sex (Guilamo–Ramos et al, 15). The parents, as well as teachers, are trying very hard to

This should, therefore, stop scaring the teenagers and parents who advise their children against the
birth control measure. However, teenagers may not use the condoms efficiently or fail in following
the rules required in the usage of condoms (Zafer, Maryam, et al, 646). This therefore, makes the use
of condoms for teenagers to drop to 85% effectiveness. It indicates that out of one hundred people
who use condoms, there is a likely hood that fifteen will get pregnant annually. Condom education is
therefore important in schools aiming at the teenagers as they are more affected by unwanted
pregnancies discouraging them from completing their studies. This education enlightens them on
how to use condoms correctly when having sex.
As much as condoms helping to prevent unwanted pregnancies to the teenagers, they also prevent
from infections such as the Sexually Transmitted Infections (STDs). Moreover, they prevent the
teenagers from infecting HIV. Use of condoms is the only safest birth control method that prevents
infections of STDs as well as HIV. Parents and teachers should, therefore, encourage the teenagers to
use this birth control method strongly. There is not a single parent who wants to see their children
infected with the STDs or HIV. There is, therefore, no alternative to this but use condoms (Sin, Chin
Kai, et al, 5).

they also hear their parents and religious advisers telling them that sex is wrong. As a result, many
young people begin having sex without really intending to and without taking precautions against
pregnancy. In the last decade or so, however, the growing awareness of the dangers of AIDS does
appear to have contributed to a decline in the rates of sexual intercourse among teens. The Youth
Risk Behavior Survey found that between 1991 and 2005 the percentage of teenagers who are
sexually active dropped from 57.4 percent to 46.3 percent among males and from 50.8 percent to
44.9 percent among females. The rates of pregnancy, abortion, and sexually transmitted disease
among teens have actually dropped even faster than the rate of sexual activity. So it appears that, in
addition to postponing sex, teens are also becoming more responsible in their sexual activities. For
example, the Youth Risk Behavior Survey found that 87.5 percent of teens were either abstinent or
used condoms. Of course, that means that 12.5 percent of teens were still having unprotected sex,
but that is a significant improvement over past decades. Similarly, although the rate of teen
pregnancy has declined, more than 11 percent of the babies born in the United States

Teen Pregnancy
The fearless of all parents who have teenagers is pregnancy. Nowadays, teen pregnancy is a serious
problem. Teenage have a lack of skills to handle a pregnancy. So that impact strongly on the future of
a young woman. Teen pregnancy is associated with negative consequences for adolescents for three
reasons: lack of education, medical complication, uncertainty about the future, and financial
difficulties.
First, the main causes of teenage pregnancy are the lack of education on safe sex, whether it is from
parents, schools, or otherwise. Many teenagers are not taught about methods of birth control and how
to deal with peers who pressure them into having sex...show more content...
A teen may feel she does not have enough knowledge to be a mother. She may also have fears about
how having a baby will impact her own life and dreams for the future. Only 38 percent of teenage
mothers ages 15–17 earn a high school diploma. By the age of 30, only 1.5 percent of women who
had pregnancies as a teenager have a college degree. Moreover, one–third of children born to
teenage mothers earn a high school diploma, compared to 81 percent of their children with older
parents ("Teen Pregnancy Rates By State"). There are also physical health risk for the baby. Once
their baby is born, teenagers may not be willing or able to give it the undivided attention it needs.
A teen may not be an adequate mother because she is overwhelmed by the constant needs of the
baby. She may grow annoyed at the lack of freedom to interact with her peer group due to the
baby. Children born to teenage mothers are more likely suffer health, social, and emotional
problems than children born to older mothers. As a result, they are at risk for lower of education.
The financial difficulty may arise during a teen pregnancy or after the baby is born. It is expensive
to raise a baby. Teens who do not have full–time employment may struggle to cover the basic
expenses of life upon having a baby. According to Stephen Nguyen, eighty percent of teen mothers
must rely on welfare ("What percent of teenage mothers are on welfare?"). Teenage mothers are

Teenage Pregnancy Essay
Imagine you're a parent of a young teenage girl and one day she comes to you and tells you she is
pregnant. How would you handle this situation? If you were able to go back in time before all this
happened, how would you try to prevent this? Would you even consider making your daughter
watch the hit shows on MTV called 16 and Pregnant and Teen Mom? What if you were the who is
pregnant, or you are the one responsible for getting a young teenage girl pregnant? How do you tell
your parents and family? If you were exposed to the reality of having a baby would you may be
rethought your actions? These TV shows 16 and Pregnant and Teen Mom just might be the key to
aiding in the prevention of teen pregnancy.

The mother of the child parents may not be able to or willing to help or support the child and the
teen mom is usually in no place to support herself let alone a child. Without higher education a
mom may find it difficult to find a job that can support her and the child as well as child care while
she is in school or at work.
Amber who was born on May 14, 1990 in Anderson Indiana was cast on 16 and Pregnant in 2008.
She also starred in Teen Mom. Amber has a daughter named Leah Leann Shirley with her
boyfriend Gary Shirley. Amber is one of the most controversial characters on the show, she used
physical violence against her boyfriend Gary in front of her daughter. In one case, she left
permanent scars on Gary. Amber lost custody of her daughter after being arrested for domestic
violence. She served a five–year sentence from December 2011 arrest for drug possession and
failing to complete a court ordered program. This goes to show that its hard–taking care of a child at
a young age while trying to maintain things in their personal life.
Hopefully in the long run the number of teen and unplanned pregnancies will decrease but in my
opinion this show would not have a big impact of helping preventing them. It's because the show
portrays girls from different parts of the country, different family settings, some supportive and some
not so much, and some with different beliefs which every teen can find something to connect with. It
seems to

Teenage Pregnancy Essays

  • 1. Teenage Pregnancy The Effects of Teenage Pregnancy Pregnancy is beautiful; however, for a teenager it can be a philosophical event with long term implications. Wall–Wieler stated that, "Teenage pregnancy is having at least one pregnancy between the ages of 14 and 19 (inclusive)" (4). Such a situation for teenagers comes with many obstacles. Adolescence would lose the opportunity to fully enjoy their teen years. This is a once in a lifetime experience, which would be cut short because of engaging in adult activities. There is also the possibility of frustration, depression and confusion because the situation might be too much to handle. In most cases, teen pregnancy will have a negative effect on the pregnant teen because it will force them to be fully committed to the concerns and needs of the child while neglecting their own. In the same fashion, teen mothers would face the challenge of changing their life style to accompany a child. Some teenagers will miss out on their education; this could mean not going to school or potentially dropping out of school permanently to take care of their baby. According to Huffman, "Only 32 percent of teen mothers have graduated from high school–that is, have received a regular high school diploma–by age 30, compared with over 84 percent of women who delay motherhood. This figure is not surprising; the presence of a young child makes it very difficult for teen mothers to continue their education" (56). Either their relationship are too weak or too strong between teens and their parents (Speedy Remedies) . Weak relationships involve lack of discipline, control, affection, and attention. Too strong relationships involve overbearing parents and too many restrictions. Drinking and drugs contributes to pregnancy because they contort better judgment. The media is the main contributor now that technology is advancing. Young people often look to the media in order to see what the so–called trend is or they look for how they should look, act, or be. Occasionally, abuse is the result of teenage pregnancy. The results of this trend are everlasting, dramatic, and sometimes traumatic. The relationship between a parent and there is important. If the relationship is too weak or too overbearing the child can either not feel loved or obedient, which ultimately result in the child seeking for love in all of the wrong places. The media offers little sex education and is offering more vulgar images of how a young girl is supposed dress and carry them; therefore, teens act older than they usually would. Teen pregnancy is usually unwanted so this increases the number of abortions, neglect, and child abuse. It increases complications for the mother as well as the baby. Complications may involve maternal death, birth defects, or the death of the baby. It also makes it hard for students to complete Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Teenage Pregnancy Essay Teenage Pregnancy "Over one million teenage girls become pregnant each year. In the next 24 hours, about 3,312 girls will become pregnant. In addition, 43% of all adolescents become pregnant before the age of 20. These are incredible statistics when you consider that there are only 31 million females. The United States has the highest adolescent pregnancy rate in the developed world. As statistics show one in nine women between the ages of 15 through 19 become pregnant each year. Also, every 26 seconds a teenage girl becomes pregnant and every 56 seconds a child of a teenage mother is born." A child needs a nurturing and stable environment in order to prosper and grow. A child born to a single teenage mother is much less likely to...show more content... By having all these new problems to deal with without a fully developed maturity the mother can also suffer from emotional and mental stagnation. Her peers may reject her as society deems teenage pregnancy unacceptable. She may feel humiliated and ashamed after her pregnancy begins to show, so then she refuses to finish school and as a result she lessens her ability to effectively raise her child. When teenage mother are pregnant, they are the least likely of all maternal age groups to get early and regular prenatal care. There are many teen mothers who receive late or no prenatal care at all. After giving birth, the majority of girls drop out of school in order to care of the baby. If there is no one else to share the endless amount of work, she must assume full responsibility. She may be forced to pursue employment with a minimal of earning potential due to her lack of education. This scenario tends to breed an unstable and financially insecure parent, and the child may also suffer from neglect by the constantly working mother. The teenage social experience is a fundamental stage of development. How a teenager develops socially dictates how effective she will be as an adult. Through interaction with peers, a teenager learns about herself. This is an important period of time to construct personal identity. If this period is cut short, she will not be competent to meet the challenges that come with raising a child. Teenagers also tend have poor eating Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Teenage Pregnancy Essay The constant rise of adolescent fertility across nations has proven to be a major contributing factor to a cycle of dependency which deteriorates economic growth. Evidently, the younger generation represents the larger population of Belize and as suggested by a report, commissioned by the United Nations, Belize encompasses the highest rate of teenage pregnancy in the Caribbean followed by Guyana and Jamaica. Based on the media perspective, teenage pregnancy is a rising issue in Belize that should be taken more seriously. It's an epidemic ruining lives and perpetuating poverty. According to Sheila Roseau, Director of UNFPA SROC, the birth–rates in countries are normally forty–nine per thousand births. In Belize, the birth rate is...show more content... However, due to educational programs such as "YES, IT VET, CET and Social Services" opportunities for upliftment becomes possible. These programs are designed to educate and prepare young individuals for a better life. Secondly, the media highlights the contributing factors of teenage pregnancy. Based on a study done in South Africa, the inadequate knowledge of contraception is a major factor contributing to teenage pregnancy. Parents are very hesitant when it comes to educating their children about sex and the use of contraception. The majority believe that their children will eventually learn on their own as time pass by or they don't believe children should even know about adult activities since sex and contraceptive usage is considered an "adult thing." Lacking the knowledge of sex and contraceptive usage can definitely lead to teenage pregnancy because both parties are unaware of the consequence that follows their actions. Another factor is alcohol and vanity. Luxurious lifestyles cause most teenagers to sadly stumble unto the path of prostitution as well and often becoming impregnated and drop out of school. Being a mom at an early age due to fast living can also lead to contraction of life–threatening diseases such as HIV /AIDS which could also be an addition to teenage pregnancy. Having been sick with HIV/AIDS and pregnant is not the combination any mother would ever dream about especially Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Teen Pregnancy Teenage pregnancy is one of many issues that the United States has. It is one issue that can be fixed easily and should be waited upon until teens are married and know what they are doing with their lives. This issue came about in the early in the 1950's – 1960's. Teen pregnancy is a teenage girl between the ages 13–19 (girls who haven't reached adulthood) having unwanted or wanted babies. Janet Bode once stated in her book, "Emotions run everywhere, scared, sad, disappointment and preparation for what is about to happen" (Bode 51). If we do not act now, teen pregnancy will be out the roof. Teen pregnancy needs a stop put to it no matter what, teens are still children themselves and they are still learning how to take care of themselves: "One of the major concerns of having a child or becoming a parent is to do so when you're old and mature enough to take on the responsibility. One of the problems in today's society is teenage pregnancy. The risk of pregnancy in teenagers is increasing largely. Many teenagers don't know how big of a responsibility it is to raise another human being when they themselves still have a lot of growing to do. Teenagers need to be more educated about themselves and their bodies as well as ways to protect themselves from getting pregnant if they're sexually active. Also, teenagers are more prone to risks during a pregnancy than a twenty or thirty year old woman would be. Becoming a teen parent automatically gives you a big responsibility to deal Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 9. Persuasive Essay About Teen Pregnancy Teen pregnancy......what comes in mind when you hear the words "Teen Pregnancy"? Well, teen pregnancy are young female girls that become pregnant under the age of 20. A female can become pregnant from having sexual intercourse and after she have started to ovulate. Young female girls will become pregnant without even thinking about the consequences and the type of environment the baby will be in. Not because the young mother is poor or rich, but because they're not ready to take care of another human being. Not to mention, pregnant teens are young themselves, so their also growing. There are plenty of problems that are the cause of teen pregnancy, and many of those problems can be solved. One reason for teen pregnancy is the lack of information that is given to students in middle and high school about sex and how to prevent it from happening. Also, the lack amount of talks from parents that they can give to their teen. I wouldn't say there isn't any education given out to students about sex, but there isn't ENOUGH to make pre–teens and teens to fully understand and have the right mind set about sex. Many schools won't really focus on the topic about teen pregnancy because it really doesn't have much about academics and that's really understandable, but at the end of the day teens are also human and do make mistakes. I believe schools should give education about teen pregnancy as much as the other subjects. The topic of teen pregnancy shouldn't be left out because talking to your teen about sex can definitely influence their lifestyle. Many teens would learn about sex in the streets which it totally horrible because 9/10, the streets will educate them to have sex rather than not to. The solution to this problem is that parents and schools should educate their teens /students with more education about teen pregnancy, so that the number pregnant teens can decrease in near future. Another reason for teen pregnancy is social media. Social media can have a huge impact on how teens can view their lives by influencing them with a different kind of lifestyle. Not to mention, teens can easily be brainwashed by what they see on there and think what they see on social media is good, is actually wrong. Social media will have Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Teenage Pregnancy Essay Teenage pregnancy is a huge problem that the United States faces today. Amongst other countries the United States has the highest rates of teen pregnancy (Ayadi, Kuo, Adams & Gavin, 2010; Minnick & Shandler, 2011). In the year 2015 the Center for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) reported that the birth rate was twenty two point three per thousand for young women ages 15–19 (2015). It also stated that of births to single women were to teenage mothers in 2009 (Ayadi et al., 2010). 14 million babies are born worldwide each year to mothers between ages 15 and 19 (United Nations Children's Fund [UNICEF], 2008). Teenage motherhood is a topic that has been researched vigorously over the past 3 decades (Hurd & Zimmerman, 2010). It has been ...show more content... The likelihood of a teenager becoming pregnant can be due to a number of influencing factors. One of those factors being that teen moms now have grown up in poverty or low income with little to no access to a good education or good employment; it is seen at the norm in that environment (Hurd & Zimmerman, 2010; Lopoo, 2011). Teenage motherhood is also more accustomed among the minority populations (Lopoo, 2011). It is said that this is because certain minority groups don't have sanctions against teen pregnancy (Mollborn, 2010). Teens may also become pregnant because they do not have the proper education and information on sexual health/pregnancy prevention or they may have none at all. It is presumed that the most of teenage pregnancies are unexpected and accidental (McKay & Barrett, 2010). Majority of schools tend to use abstinence– only education and only educate about contraceptive failure. Another thing to consider is the parents, some parents may be giving their teen the wrong information because they may have been taught wrong or they may just find it hard and uncomfortable to talk about so they won't say anything at all to correct what their teen think is true about sex and pregnancy. Teens also get the wrong idea about sex through the media because even though it portrays sex heavily it rarely portrays the bad side effects of having sex such as STD's/ Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Parents have already seen and have been through situations when they were teenagers, so they would know what to say and would know how you feel because they were once teens. So, talking to a parent can be helpful because they know what true love is and know how hard it is to raise A baby at such a young age and because of that they would like for their children to know about it and that it's a major problem to be involved in. Parents also can give you good advice on not worrying about boys or kids while being a teen and to focus on making good decisions by staying in school and having a good career for yourself. In the same way doctors, can also communicate with teenagers about what they can do to stay away from pregnancy. Doctors help teenagers by talking to them a showing them what can happen to them by having unprotected sex and its consequences. They explain to teens that having unprotected sex could leave them with a sexual transmitted disease or even a child that could mess their life up. Well each year in the United States, more than 300,000 babies will be born to teenage mothers who have not even finished high school yet. More than half of these mothers have not even finished the ninth grade even. Many teenagers do not consider the risks involved with sexual intercourse. Sex education classes are failing. When we look at the rates of what is happening to the American teenagers, we can only say that sex education is not doing good at all. You never picture the fight with being such a young mother. Teen Mom enables the viewers to see the battles of being pregnant at such a young age. Kaitlyn Lowry, who at age 17 allowed MTV to film the pregnancy and birth of her first child, is an incredible exemplar of how having a child at a very young age influences your life so enormously. She said," I was given a blessing but I still haven't gotten my bachelor's degree, because, one, daycare is so expensive and, two, how do you balance studying and having a little one at home?" Teenage Pregnancy Essays Judge Greg Mathis author of Republicans Don't Procrastinate argues that a parent can instill good values in a child and give them all the love and attention that they deserve, but the Republican platform of abstinence–only education leaves too much to chance and sets young people up for failure. On the other hand, Marian Wright Edelman points out in her article TeenPregnancy in America Today that everyone– both liberals and conservatives should be able to agree that it is in everyone's best interest when teenagers wait before making the decision to have sex, which could result in unplanned pregnancies. Since Palin's daughter, Bristol, has become pregnant she can no longer think about prom and graduation like a typical teenager, but instead she needs to worry about possible marriage and motherhood. Mathis disputes that a parent can instill good values in a child, but if the government, namely Republicans fail to realize that, at some point, these children mature and make their own decisions, without having the proper education in areas such as sex education these children are not going to be able to make rational decisions on the choices that they are given. Abstinence–only education leaves too much to chance and sets young people up for failure. It does not give them realistic choices to make respectable decisions. Mathis feels that if a class that talks about the importance of condoms could prevent an unplanned pregnancy, why not add it to the school's program. Removing it from the curriculum does not discourage young people from having sex; it puts them at risk for unwanted pregnancies and STDs when having sex. Edelman claims that teenage pregnancy is everybody's problem and not just one political party or another. Everyone needs to pull together and steer teenagers toward positive life choices so they can avoid getting pregnant in the first place. Edelman states that most Americans, whether liberal or conservative should be able to agree that it is in everyone's best Get more content on HelpWriting.net

However, in the developed countries such as the United States of America, there is a decrease in teenage pregnancies in accordance to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. However, parents are leaving in denial that the teenagers are not having sex (Guilamo–Ramos et al, 15). The parents, as well as teachers, are trying very hard to raise the children who are responsible in the society. This should, therefore, stop scaring the teenagers and parents who advise their children against the birth control measure. However, teenagers may not use the condoms efficiently or fail in following the rules required in the usage of condoms (Zafer, Maryam, et al, 646). This therefore, makes the use of condoms for teenagers to drop to 85% effectiveness. It indicates that out of one hundred people who use condoms, there is a likely hood that fifteen will get pregnant annually. Condom education is therefore important in schools aiming at the teenagers as they are more affected by unwanted pregnancies discouraging them from completing their studies. This education enlightens them on how to use condoms correctly when having sex. As much as condoms helping to prevent unwanted pregnancies to the teenagers, they also prevent from infections such as the Sexually Transmitted Infections (STDs). Moreover, they prevent the teenagers from infecting HIV. Use of condoms is the only safest birth control method that prevents infections of STDs as well as HIV. Parents and teachers should, therefore, encourage the teenagers to use this birth control method strongly. There is not a single parent who wants to see their children infected with the STDs or HIV. There is, therefore, no alternative to this but use condoms (Sin, Chin Kai, et al, 5). Get more content on HelpWriting.net

As a result, many young people begin having sex without really intending to and without taking precautions against pregnancy. In the last decade or so, however, the growing awareness of the dangers of AIDS does appear to have contributed to a decline in the rates of sexual intercourse among teens. The Youth Risk Behavior Survey found that between 1991 and 2005 the percentage of teenagers who are sexually active dropped from 57.4 percent to 46.3 percent among males and from 50.8 percent to 44.9 percent among females. The rates of pregnancy, abortion, and sexually transmitted disease among teens have actually dropped even faster than the rate of sexual activity. So it appears that, in addition to postponing sex, teens are also becoming more responsible in their sexual activities. For example, the Youth Risk Behavior Survey found that 87.5 percent of teens were either abstinent or used condoms. Of course, that means that 12.5 percent of teens were still having unprotected sex, but that is a significant improvement over past decades. Similarly, although the rate of teen pregnancy has declined, more than 11 percent of the babies born in the United States Get more content on HelpWriting.net
