My Most Memorable Experience In College
My first semester here at Albright College is definitely one that I'm going to remember. Although
it has gone by way too fast, a lot of hilarious and great memories were made, mostly with the
people who are in my First Year Seminar class/POP group. Not only did I make amazing memories,
but I have also changed a bit and even learned more about myself. In addition, I have made quite a
few accomplishments, personal and academic since my midterm reflection. In the beginning of the
semester, I came up with a long–term goal which was partially completed throughout the semester.
My most memorable experience this semester would have to be POPs weekend because that is the
reason Kaitlyn and I have become so close, as well as Brian and Patinno....show more content...
I have learned things about myself along with things in general. When I was living at home, my
mom likes to have things done her way. As a result of this somewhat stubborn trait, which I
obtained from her, she wouldn't let me do my laundry because she thought I would ruin the
washer or something, I don't even know. Therefore, I learned how to do my own laundry since
living on my own, which really isn't difficult at all. Something surprising I learned about myself
is that I'm not as shy as I always thought I was. It used to be hard for me to open up and make
many friends when I was younger. But now, I made several friends the first weekend here, thanks
to POPs. I have had a couple of successes during this semester, personal and academic. I remember
getting a low grade on my first chemistry exam this semester, and I stated in my midterm
reflection that a goal I had was to get better grades on the next chemistry exams. Luckily and to
my surprise, I got fairly high scores on the last two tests. During POPs weekends, everyone had to
write down a first semester personal goal and put them in an envelope. I don't remember too well,
but I'm almost positive that I wrote down that my goal was to make good friends during the course
of the semester. Fortunately, I accomplished this goal and made very good friends with some the
very first people I met on welcoming weekend. For my midterm reflection

College Essay : My Experience In College
College affords many unique opportunities to grow as a person. I believe that my experience at
college has transformed me into the person I am today. I have become a better, more well–rounded
person through the experiences I've had. More importantly, the trials I've faced have allowed me to
realize who I truly want to be in the future. At the beginning of college, I was misguided and naГЇve.
I didn't know what I wanted out of school. At the time, my primary concern was my social life. I've
never had a lot of friends and college presented an opportunity to change that. I was more
preoccupied with socializing than studying. I was searching for sense of belonging. Even though at
times it was fun, I often felt empty. I was forcing myself to be something I'm not. I spent my entire
first semester like this, going through the motions.
I was seriously neglecting my schoolwork during that time. I had performed so poorly in class
that I was placed on academic probation. It felt like I had been branded as a failure then and
there. I was extremely ashamed with that semester because I failed to live up to my own
standards. I believed that I ruined any chances of finding success and that my college aspirations
were over. It took me a long time to overcome that failure. The following semester, I was depressed
often and hardly socialized at all. I was contemplating dropping out entirely.
I decided to remain in school but I had a serious lack of self–efficacy in my ability. I knew I had to

NMSU Personal Statement
Living alone, away from home is a challenge millions of students have to undergo each year
across the globe. It is like starting kindergarten again. You are entering a new place, with new
people, starting a new phase of your life. After being separated form your parents, some may cry,
others will run with joy at the taste of independence. However, as hard as it may be for some to
admit it, they will miss their family and previous way of living. This is why finding the right college
is so important to students. They have to feel comfortable in the new environment. NMSU has
not only has not only the loving family oriented environment that I was raised in, but Las Cruces
itself is a city with a rare environment that I have not encountered anywhere else. Las Cruces has
the people that are community oriented, and in my short travels and encounters with them, they
have already taught me so much about what it means to be a part of a community. The way they
encourage youth to go out and learn new things, is something I had always looked for growing
up, and I know that teaching, volunteering, and being a part of my community is a huge part of
what I want to continue doing when I go to college. To me, dorm life encompasses college life.
College is a time to grow as a person and discover different things about yourself. College opens
doors for you that high school doesn't. And college can change you and shape you in ways that you
might not imagine. This is why I look forward to

I hope to contribute my diverse experience in working with different age groups from preschool
through first–year college students. In addition, I would like to share my perspective from being a
first–generation Mexican–American. As a product from Los Angeles Unified School District and
attending an urban high school, James A. Garfield High School, in East Los Angeles, I want to share
my personal experience attending an under–resourced and overpopulated public high school. Also, I
will be able to provide my personal experience in my community as well as share my cultural and
family expectations as a Latina woman. I hope to share my knowledge and understanding of
different school districts and communities I have worked with aside from my own.
At an early age, I had to devote my time out of school by working. My weekends and after–school
time were either selling ice cream in a truck with my father or cutting fruit in cart with my mother.
Working became a huge barrier towards my education because I did not know how to prioritize my
education while thinking if I did not go to work with my parents we would not have enough money
for groceries or rent. I then realized, I did not have opportunities like the other kids such as joining
sports at the park, after–school programs, or studying specific subjects I needed extra help.
Unfortunately, the occupation that my parents currently hold is difficult because when the weather
is not favorable towards the products they sell there is

Reflection Of My College Experience
This course like my entire first semester of university have provided me with both many
challenges as well as taught me many lessons not only for my university career, but for the rest of
my life. As I reflect back on the semester, I recall telling myself at least once a week that I wanted
to drop out of school, followed by many breakdowns, crying fits and calling defeat. The past few
months, haven't been at all easy for me, I have thought many times I wasn't intelligent enough to
be in university, I was disappointed with some of the grades I received and I was constantly
engulfed in a swarm of stress. Despite all these tough times, I have had many good one's as well, I
have made new friends which are now integral to my everyday life and I have enhanced my
knowledge to a new degree. Some of the many lessons that I've already learned in my short
university experience include how to manage my time, the importance of meeting deadlines as well
as the continuous struggle of balancing the various different facets of life.
A range of different and useful topics have been discussed since the start of Pathways to lifelong
learning, some of which I found to be of particular help. The college expectations which we learned
towards the beginning of the course was especially helpful to learning how to become a critical
thinker, something that was not very touched upon throughout my time in high school. I now use
Bloom's Taxonomy when beginning to prepare for an important paper or presentation. In addition
to the first chapter, I had also found great help in the second chapter on the skills needed to succeed
in school. In the past, I used rehearsal as my main strategy to memorize for any upcoming tests or
exams, however that often resulted in either retrieval failure or ineffective encoding. I now use
chunking and elaboration as my main strategies to studying as I find it most effective when studying
and retrieving information, especially when I am needing to memorize and learn a big amount of
material.
Now that I have completed Pathways to lifelong learning, I have come to realize that the extreme
stress I endured as mentioned earlier was due to my poor time management skills as well as my poor
stress management. I

My Experience As A New College Student Essay
As I wrap up my first semester of my freshman year of college, I begin to think back on my very
new experience as a new college student. Between living in a dorm versus my comfortable home
and the sudden increase in independence, college life was a brand new experience entirely. To
me, it was almost like living a totally new life. However, I have always considered myself
versatile and adaptable, so the transition to dorm life was not as stressful for me as it may have
been to my peers, which allowed me to focus much more easily on my studies. Looking back on
ENG 202, I now know that while I am versatile in taking on different literary theories and
remaining consistent, my time management leaves much to be desired. I chose the English major
itself due to my passion for languages, as well as my aspiration to teach English as a foreign
language. My focus on linguistics, however, results in an attitude of "I just have to get through these
requirements and then I can get to the meat of what I'm interested in" towards most English major
requirements. So, when I signed up for ENG 202, I did not even look up the course description on
the website. "Introduction to English Studies" was pretty self–explanatory, to me. I thought the
course would simply be an overarching look at the devices of the English subject, such as grammar
and literary analysis. I did not even know there were different ways to examine pieces of literature.
My simple belief was that almost all analyses of texts

College, from what I heard from people say, is a time that you would not forget. From coming
from such a far away place I did not really know what to expect. I was expecting some changes, but
not the changes that I experienced over the past semester. I have changed as a person with greater
openness of others' ideas and topics. I have changed with more independent from my parents and I
have changed with more knowing of determining who I want to be, and I have changed by being
more understanding that a person has to ask questions or otherwise, when in doubt people will not
communicate with you. This past semester has been a time of self growth, which in turn has caused
me to be a much different person that I had started out with.
There were multiple times where I saw and heard other people's experiences and ideas. One of
these times was in our Perspectives class, because of the many discussions from the class, as a
whole, and of the specialty group focusing on political ideology. I changed with the moderation of
views regarding economic policies, however, I am still fervent on my current views on social
issues. Another time I have broadened my outlook is when I normally walk around with some
friends and then they occasionally they open up about themselves. Prior to SU, I felt there was no
person out there who had experienced or understood what I had to deal with my mother and my
secluded life. Every person in SU that I have met had something with them that had a direct

"Welcome Class to Composition one." Those words were voiced by my professor, Mrs.
Robinson, on the first day of school. Initially, I thought to myself, do I even belong in this college
course class. Before school had even begun, the stress over the summer about my English skills
was eating me alive. Why? Well, in my past English classes I received A's on all of my essays, but
this college class did not seem so easy. Also, I was always fascinated by all the arts and sciences,
but English never struck interest in me. I never thought that I could write any decent essays. The
reason I insecure about my writing skills was because of the ACT. Since the ACT is the talk about
how smart an individual is, my ACT score was not very high. As the course continued, the firstessay
approached quickly. I remember being stressed about this essay because of my writing
insecurities. Although I managed to acquire a decent grade, I promised myself to strive to make
myself a better writer. I started to read Norton Field Guide to Writing handbook also known as the
yellow book, and slowly but surely started to develop knowledge of good writing skills and tips to
improve my essays. This allowed me to grow as a writer and slowly my insecurities started to
dwindle, and I began to gain confidence in myself. I never would've thought that the next time I
took the ACT that my English score would be my highest. When getting my score back and
realizing that I had improved so much, I began to wonder how I

Picture this, a big high school football playing senior in the middle of his school's stage. A sea of
freshman fill the audience in front of him. He has his thumbs up, elbows back, butt out, knees
together, head back, and tongue out.He was singing the song "Singin in the Rain" and that
football player is me. I was leading the freshman in our first icebreaker of the day in hopes of
waking them up while also setting the scene for fun the rest of the day at our Freshman Ignition.
For the third year I decided I would be a mentor for the Freshman, except, this time, as a Senior, I
would have a part in running the show. That day was full of fun activities like kung fu
introductions, a skit for the freshman and a game called the human machine. I had a lot of fun
myself leading the kids around and talking to them. We were able to make a fun and exciting
atmosphere which contributed to a positive first experience for the freshman at high school. The
ability to give back, help others grow, and make the time worthwhile is the job of a mentor. In
college I want to grow more than just academically. I strive to share lessons with others while .
Sharing valuable lessons can be very rewarding; knowing that you were a part of helping a person
grow can provided a greater sense of accomplishment than one may think. Many people have
helped me grow but nobody has done more than my mom. She has pushed me to be inquisitive,
work hard, reach eagle scout and help others. My mom has been a great mentor for me in
everything I do. This has inspired me to mentor others inside of boy scouts. I took upon myself the
role of Senior Patrol leader who has the job of being the youth leader of the troop. Our troop is boy

leadership. Specifically the SPL has many specific duties including: planning troop meetings, running
the troop meetings, preparation for campouts, running the campouts, and ends with a week of
summer camp. At summer camp around twenty five boys go and I have to lead them through
nightly activities. In hopes to leave a permanent mark within

When I walked into college for the first time I had various expectations. Some of which were good
and some were bad. For instance, after listening to people talk about it, just the thought of going to
college was terrifying to even contemplate, but then sometimes it would appear to be impossible.
However, after experiencing college firsthand I can say that my expectation and the reality were
quite different. Although it can be intimidating, an enormous amount of work, and a considerable
amount of stress to handle; college does not have to be terrifying, and is definitely feasible through
dedication and perseverance.
My first expectation of college was that it would be daunting, and that I would walk through life as

To me, working to achieve my ultimate dream in life, which is to become a registered nurse, is
worth all the effort and time it takes to fulfil that dream. Therefore, even though I know it will be
hard and is going to take dedication, going to college is the only way to succeed in fulfilling my
dreams. To achieve anything in life requires extreme commitment, but if
I set my mind to attain a specific goal; there is nothing that can stop me. My expectations and the
reality were very different in terms of being capable of managing everything in life in addition to
being a college student. For example, in my mind being a college student was going to be
entirely too stressful and that I would never be able to handle everything that life throws as a
result of being too busy with my studies. On the contrary, being a full time student is not nearly as
hard as by brain made it out to be. Once again, as long as college is prioritized properly, also, given
that I am diligent in my studying anything is possible. In order to achieve the optimum results
education must be at the top of the priority list, and if for any reason it falls below other things; my
grades will suffer. Furthermore, diligence is vital to succeeding in college. Although it is
intimidating, college does not have to be terrifying. In contrast to my earlier assumption, this phase

Essay: My Experience At Community College
In the summer, I attended a guidance class at Chaffey College. I thought that community college
was for people who drop out of high school and not take life seriously, but I got that idea from
teachers who went straight to universities after high school. When I attended Chaffey, I was
surprised to be in a diverse culture. The people that I have met were so different and the professors
were very helpful than I expected. Suffering through the midst of exclusion taught me that there are
so many options I can choose from in the future. Being a survivor from the destructive side effects
of mind control was shocking enough. Fortunately, I recovered from the operation that poisoned
every inch of my mind. I was glad that I attended Chaffey because

My academic experience prior to college has been an exciting event through my life. During my

teachers helped me gain an understanding of the different techniques I needed to succeed in the real

As a student in school I had many successful experiences, and challenges. These experiences and

My guidance counselor was a very kind man who was willing to help anyone in need. By
speaking to my guidance counselor I was able to learn about different strategies to minimize
stress and manage my time. He helped me create a schedule that would allow me to understand
what I needed to do everyday. Having this scheduled allowed me to reduce stress and manage my
time. My counselor would also check on me every month to see if I was doing well and keeping
up with my school work. If I hadn't spoken to my counselor I would have fallen behind in school
and in my daily activities. Overall my counselor assisted me with many of the challenges I faced
in school. My transition from school to college was pretty easy. I already live in Orlando so I am
familiar with the area and the college. The biggest difference between my school and this college
is the size. Getting around the college during my first day was not easy. After wandering around
the college and understanding where everything is I am now able to navigate myself to the
classes. My experience so far at college has been great. I am currently majoring in biomedical
sciences and hope to one day become a doctor. I am still adjusting to the amount of work and the
class sizes at this college but I will get used to it. I look forward to doing well in college and landing
a six figure income job. I'm also interested in getting

My College Experience : My Journey In College
If anything could be say about my first semester of freshmen year is that, so far, it's definitely
been a journey. In my opinion the wonderful part of college is that the independence granted
allows for personal growth and responsibility which I Seem to be thriving on. This school year I
have learned a lot about myself, but in a much more real sense it was just realizing what I already
had. Having the privilege of being a Catholic Scholar has played a monumental role in my young
adult life. Since the commencement of the semester the opportunity to bond with my cohort and
form relationships with those who engage in a similar prayerful life has been quite amazing. Even
without being in the program I still would be going to mass as well as partaking in lecturing, being
an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, as well as also be in Music Ministry, however I
would not have the friends or support system with the Catholic Scholars program. It's been a huge
source of love and friendship and honestly it has aided in making my transition to college life a
breeze. As a student, I have learned that I do extremely well in an independent setting. I really
enjoy being able to set my own studying hours and having the ability to interact with a multitude of
people throughout the course of my classes. However, I have also learned that college has two
modes; everything hectic at once and a slow relaxed pace. It's taught me to challenge myself further

My Experience As A College Student Essay
Introduction I have enjoyed the opportunity to be an active student in this class. I have been
delighted to be able to speak in open discussions during lecture and I wish that more professors
practiced this method. The objective of this paper is for me to demonstrate an understanding of my
learning experiences through the information that I have learned over the duration of this course. I
have chosen to focus on my experience as a college student as the main topic of my self–assessment.
Many topic discussions in class have given me insight to the way that humans obtain and process
information. The class sessions on confirmation basis, critical thinking and sleep were all very
relatable to a returning college student like me. In the previous assessment, I discussed these key
elements in detail regarding how I maintained a balance of normality in my life. In this paper, I will
explain self–regulation and how the intrinsic method, extrinsic method, adaptation, and
self–actualization all relate to learning as a college student. Past School Experience As anyone
could imagine making the decision to return to school was not an easy one. I had been out of
college since December of 2011. The last college that I attended was the University of Phoenix. I
attended the ground campus in Sandy Springs, GA and the hour commute was killing me. Although
I only attended school once a week the amount of time that was required for me to put into my class
assignments was horrendous. I was

My College Experience
Throughout my lifetime I have listened to people reflect back on their college experiences and
explain how college is supposed to be "the best experience of your life." The summer after my senior
year I use to try and imagine what my first semester was going to be like based on what I had heard
people talk about in the past. After my first semester at NC State I realized that I couldn't fully
understand what college was like until I experienced it for myself. My first couple of weeks at
Ohio State was rough and really tested my strength (mental and physical). I faced challenges and
obstacles that I had never heard about in those past college experience conversations. All of a

I can remember missing 8:05 classes because I stayed out too late the night before. In high school the
teacher would constantly remind the students when certain assignments were due, but this was not
the case in college. I learned that the hard way my first semester. Sometimes I forgot to turn in an
assignment because I didn't properly read my syllabus and my professor never mentioned it. These
were all new problems that could have easily let escalate without taking the proper actions. For the
most part I was doing fairly well but a few of my grades began to plummet. I was losing the
confidence in myself and started to wonder if going to college had been the best decision. The time
had come for me to grow up and become an adult even I didn't feel the time was right. I immediately
began attending tutoring sessions, working with peers and also keeping a daily to–do list. These
factors were the eventually led to drastic improvement and success. After my first semester I
learned how better manage my time, take advantage of campus resources and also how to organize
myself better. These struggles also taught me that sometimes I try and rush through things instead
of taking my time. I realized that one of my strong points is being able to really do well when my
back is against the wall. Although I was unhappy while facing obstacles I am happy I experienced
them. I believe this experience was the reason for my

My College Experience : My First Year Of College
My first college experience was at 18 years old, a young 18 I turned 18 in May and moved out of
state to attend a small private college in Indiana in August that same year. Went I graduated
college I thought I was prepared and had all the tools I would need to succeed in college. In high
school I did everything (or so I though) I took advanced placement classes, I had a after school job, I
was dedicated and serious about my classroom. My first week of classes, I felt great, I thought
I've got this no problem. Boy was I wrong. I began to struggle just a few week into classes and
continued to struggle consistently throughout the year. Not just academically, but emotionally too. I
was away from home for the first time, I moved to a new state and new city not knowing anyone
for having the support I needed. After my barely scraping by my first year of college, I decided to
move home and go to Ohio State. Thing did not really improve academically for me there and
after 2 semesters I dropped out. At this point I was married and living on our own, I needed to work.
I put my college education on hold for 11 years. During this time, I got a job as a receptionist in an
office and worked there for 4 years until I was laid off. I few weeks later, I receive another
receptionist job which lead to my career in Project Management. I worked as a project manager for 5
years, but still aspired to go back to college. However, having 3 kids, a husband, dog, house, and a

REFLECTIONS OF TOPICS IN CLASS
I have learned so much in this class to prepare me for a successful college experience. There were
some topics that caught my attention more than others. Such as, time and stress management,
University resources, and critical thinking.
Time and Stress Management
How I manage time is a reflection of what I value. Managing my time corresponds to how
successful I will be in college and throughout life. Knowing and setting priorities to meet goals,
carrying out plans, taking control of time, and staying focused are some events that are involved
with time management. For many of us, balancing school with work and family is the greatest
challenge involved with prioritizing. Good advance planning will help in meeting these challenges.
Staying focused is usually difficult, especially for first–year students. Staying focused entails
remembering and dedicating to the most important purpose for being in college. Sacrificing
unnecessary commitments and keeping my

My Experience Of College Freshman
Good Day Everyone I would like to share my first semester in college life and my experience. My
first semester in college. I notice about've been noticing how college freshmen are so obviously
college freshmen. I was extremely nervous about meeting people and making friends at National
College of Business and Arts. I also totally remember the excitement, anxiousness and remarkable
amount of cluelessness that comes with being a brand spankin' new college freshman. The first
semester of my freshman year of college was a whole bunch of not getting what I wanted. Not
getting things that I applied for. Not fitting into the group of people that I wanted to be friends
with. Not having any of the guys that I was interested in be interested back. Not achieving the
grades I wanted (and kind of assumed I would get). That's just a whole lot of experience...show more

And it's an experience that I offer to current college freshmen to learn from. But, even more
valuable than my lessons learned, is your own experience. I want to lock down and be completely
focused on school and get the grades I want. College is way more enjoyable when you are getting
good grades. At one point during my first semester my grades weren't too good, and I wasn't
enjoying college. I was always stressed out and worrying constantly. Every time I went to sleep I
would worry, and it really affected me. Now, I started the semester off strong and I'm really
enjoying college and I have no worries in the back of my mind Everyone has a different
adjustment to college. Maybe you're the one who can and will hit the ground running. Or maybe
you're like me, and you just need to learn to be patient. So, even if you feel like you're not getting

Personal Experience: College Life
College was very much a paradox for me. College was the most challenging experiences in my
life, and yet one of the best experiences I have ever had. During my undergraduate years, I met
new people, took exciting courses, and learned to live without the daily guidance of my parents.
And most of all, I was able to learn more about myself. After my first year, the pressure of living
on campus, friends, and classes began to take a toll on me. I began to fall apart. I worked two
jobs to support myself, knowing that I could not ask my parents frequently for money due to their
own financial burdens at home. I had to constantly deal with the upheaval from my relationships
with roommates, friends, and family. I began dealing with anxiety, and my confidence level
dropped considerably. My schoolwork began to suffer, and I began to withdraw from my friends
and family. There were times when I cried almost every day and felt as though I could not carry
on. The hardest part of all of this was putting on a façade for the people around me as though
everything was perfectly okay. I still wanted people to see my as the happy, smiling person that
was always in a good mood. Seeing that my grades had plummeted and realizing that I was going
through a depressed time in my life, made me take a stand to make changes in my life. I knew I
could not sit around dwelling in my despair while life passed me by. I am a firm believer in the

is writing short stories along with my poetry. I was learning how to turn my voiceless drawings
into a strong and outspoken being that i call my real words. At this point, I was doing well at crafts
such as crocheting. I have always needed to work with my hands as I had grown up on a farm until I

My Experience In College Essay

  • 1. My Most Memorable Experience In College My first semester here at Albright College is definitely one that I'm going to remember. Although it has gone by way too fast, a lot of hilarious and great memories were made, mostly with the people who are in my First Year Seminar class/POP group. Not only did I make amazing memories, but I have also changed a bit and even learned more about myself. In addition, I have made quite a few accomplishments, personal and academic since my midterm reflection. In the beginning of the semester, I came up with a long–term goal which was partially completed throughout the semester. My most memorable experience this semester would have to be POPs weekend because that is the reason Kaitlyn and I have become so close, as well as Brian and Patinno....show more content... I have learned things about myself along with things in general. When I was living at home, my mom likes to have things done her way. As a result of this somewhat stubborn trait, which I obtained from her, she wouldn't let me do my laundry because she thought I would ruin the washer or something, I don't even know. Therefore, I learned how to do my own laundry since living on my own, which really isn't difficult at all. Something surprising I learned about myself is that I'm not as shy as I always thought I was. It used to be hard for me to open up and make many friends when I was younger. But now, I made several friends the first weekend here, thanks to POPs. I have had a couple of successes during this semester, personal and academic. I remember getting a low grade on my first chemistry exam this semester, and I stated in my midterm reflection that a goal I had was to get better grades on the next chemistry exams. Luckily and to my surprise, I got fairly high scores on the last two tests. During POPs weekends, everyone had to write down a first semester personal goal and put them in an envelope. I don't remember too well, but I'm almost positive that I wrote down that my goal was to make good friends during the course of the semester. Fortunately, I accomplished this goal and made very good friends with some the very first people I met on welcoming weekend. For my midterm reflection Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. College Essay : My Experience In College College affords many unique opportunities to grow as a person. I believe that my experience at college has transformed me into the person I am today. I have become a better, more well–rounded person through the experiences I've had. More importantly, the trials I've faced have allowed me to realize who I truly want to be in the future. At the beginning of college, I was misguided and naГЇve. I didn't know what I wanted out of school. At the time, my primary concern was my social life. I've never had a lot of friends and college presented an opportunity to change that. I was more preoccupied with socializing than studying. I was searching for sense of belonging. Even though at times it was fun, I often felt empty. I was forcing myself to be something I'm not. I spent my entire first semester like this, going through the motions. I was seriously neglecting my schoolwork during that time. I had performed so poorly in class that I was placed on academic probation. It felt like I had been branded as a failure then and there. I was extremely ashamed with that semester because I failed to live up to my own standards. I believed that I ruined any chances of finding success and that my college aspirations were over. It took me a long time to overcome that failure. The following semester, I was depressed often and hardly socialized at all. I was contemplating dropping out entirely. I decided to remain in school but I had a serious lack of self–efficacy in my ability. I knew I had to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. NMSU Personal Statement Living alone, away from home is a challenge millions of students have to undergo each year across the globe. It is like starting kindergarten again. You are entering a new place, with new people, starting a new phase of your life. After being separated form your parents, some may cry, others will run with joy at the taste of independence. However, as hard as it may be for some to admit it, they will miss their family and previous way of living. This is why finding the right college is so important to students. They have to feel comfortable in the new environment. NMSU has not only has not only the loving family oriented environment that I was raised in, but Las Cruces itself is a city with a rare environment that I have not encountered anywhere else. Las Cruces has the people that are community oriented, and in my short travels and encounters with them, they have already taught me so much about what it means to be a part of a community. The way they encourage youth to go out and learn new things, is something I had always looked for growing up, and I know that teaching, volunteering, and being a part of my community is a huge part of what I want to continue doing when I go to college. To me, dorm life encompasses college life. College is a time to grow as a person and discover different things about yourself. College opens doors for you that high school doesn't. And college can change you and shape you in ways that you might not imagine. This is why I look forward to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. My Experience In College Essay I hope to contribute my diverse experience in working with different age groups from preschool through first–year college students. In addition, I would like to share my perspective from being a first–generation Mexican–American. As a product from Los Angeles Unified School District and attending an urban high school, James A. Garfield High School, in East Los Angeles, I want to share my personal experience attending an under–resourced and overpopulated public high school. Also, I will be able to provide my personal experience in my community as well as share my cultural and family expectations as a Latina woman. I hope to share my knowledge and understanding of different school districts and communities I have worked with aside from my own. At an early age, I had to devote my time out of school by working. My weekends and after–school time were either selling ice cream in a truck with my father or cutting fruit in cart with my mother. Working became a huge barrier towards my education because I did not know how to prioritize my education while thinking if I did not go to work with my parents we would not have enough money for groceries or rent. I then realized, I did not have opportunities like the other kids such as joining sports at the park, after–school programs, or studying specific subjects I needed extra help. Unfortunately, the occupation that my parents currently hold is difficult because when the weather is not favorable towards the products they sell there is Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Reflection Of My College Experience This course like my entire first semester of university have provided me with both many challenges as well as taught me many lessons not only for my university career, but for the rest of my life. As I reflect back on the semester, I recall telling myself at least once a week that I wanted to drop out of school, followed by many breakdowns, crying fits and calling defeat. The past few months, haven't been at all easy for me, I have thought many times I wasn't intelligent enough to be in university, I was disappointed with some of the grades I received and I was constantly engulfed in a swarm of stress. Despite all these tough times, I have had many good one's as well, I have made new friends which are now integral to my everyday life and I have enhanced my knowledge to a new degree. Some of the many lessons that I've already learned in my short university experience include how to manage my time, the importance of meeting deadlines as well as the continuous struggle of balancing the various different facets of life. A range of different and useful topics have been discussed since the start of Pathways to lifelong learning, some of which I found to be of particular help. The college expectations which we learned towards the beginning of the course was especially helpful to learning how to become a critical thinker, something that was not very touched upon throughout my time in high school. I now use Bloom's Taxonomy when beginning to prepare for an important paper or presentation. In addition to the first chapter, I had also found great help in the second chapter on the skills needed to succeed in school. In the past, I used rehearsal as my main strategy to memorize for any upcoming tests or exams, however that often resulted in either retrieval failure or ineffective encoding. I now use chunking and elaboration as my main strategies to studying as I find it most effective when studying and retrieving information, especially when I am needing to memorize and learn a big amount of material. Now that I have completed Pathways to lifelong learning, I have come to realize that the extreme stress I endured as mentioned earlier was due to my poor time management skills as well as my poor stress management. • 6. My Experience As A New College Student Essay As I wrap up my first semester of my freshman year of college, I begin to think back on my very new experience as a new college student. Between living in a dorm versus my comfortable home and the sudden increase in independence, college life was a brand new experience entirely. To me, it was almost like living a totally new life. However, I have always considered myself versatile and adaptable, so the transition to dorm life was not as stressful for me as it may have been to my peers, which allowed me to focus much more easily on my studies. Looking back on ENG 202, I now know that while I am versatile in taking on different literary theories and remaining consistent, my time management leaves much to be desired. I chose the English major itself due to my passion for languages, as well as my aspiration to teach English as a foreign language. My focus on linguistics, however, results in an attitude of "I just have to get through these requirements and then I can get to the meat of what I'm interested in" towards most English major requirements. So, when I signed up for ENG 202, I did not even look up the course description on the website. "Introduction to English Studies" was pretty self–explanatory, to me. I thought the course would simply be an overarching look at the devices of the English subject, such as grammar and literary analysis. I did not even know there were different ways to examine pieces of literature. My simple belief was that almost all analyses of texts Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. College, from what I heard from people say, is a time that you would not forget. From coming from such a far away place I did not really know what to expect. I was expecting some changes, but not the changes that I experienced over the past semester. I have changed as a person with greater openness of others' ideas and topics. I have changed with more independent from my parents and I have changed with more knowing of determining who I want to be, and I have changed by being more understanding that a person has to ask questions or otherwise, when in doubt people will not communicate with you. This past semester has been a time of self growth, which in turn has caused me to be a much different person that I had started out with. There were multiple times where I saw and heard other people's experiences and ideas. One of these times was in our Perspectives class, because of the many discussions from the class, as a whole, and of the specialty group focusing on political ideology. I changed with the moderation of views regarding economic policies, however, I am still fervent on my current views on social issues. Another time I have broadened my outlook is when I normally walk around with some friends and then they occasionally they open up about themselves. Prior to SU, I felt there was no person out there who had experienced or understood what I had to deal with my mother and my secluded life. Every person in SU that I have met had something with them that had a direct Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. My Experience In A College Class "Welcome Class to Composition one." Those words were voiced by my professor, Mrs. Robinson, on the first day of school. Initially, I thought to myself, do I even belong in this college course class. Before school had even begun, the stress over the summer about my English skills was eating me alive. Why? Well, in my past English classes I received A's on all of my essays, but this college class did not seem so easy. Also, I was always fascinated by all the arts and sciences, but English never struck interest in me. I never thought that I could write any decent essays. The reason I insecure about my writing skills was because of the ACT. Since the ACT is the talk about how smart an individual is, my ACT score was not very high. As the course continued, the firstessay approached quickly. I remember being stressed about this essay because of my writing insecurities. Although I managed to acquire a decent grade, I promised myself to strive to make myself a better writer. I started to read Norton Field Guide to Writing handbook also known as the yellow book, and slowly but surely started to develop knowledge of good writing skills and tips to improve my essays. This allowed me to grow as a writer and slowly my insecurities started to dwindle, and I began to gain confidence in myself. I never would've thought that the next time I took the ACT that my English score would be my highest. When getting my score back and realizing that I had improved so much, I began to wonder how I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. My College Experience : My Experience In College Picture this, a big high school football playing senior in the middle of his school's stage. A sea of freshman fill the audience in front of him. He has his thumbs up, elbows back, butt out, knees together, head back, and tongue out.He was singing the song "Singin in the Rain" and that football player is me. I was leading the freshman in our first icebreaker of the day in hopes of waking them up while also setting the scene for fun the rest of the day at our Freshman Ignition. For the third year I decided I would be a mentor for the Freshman, except, this time, as a Senior, I would have a part in running the show. That day was full of fun activities like kung fu introductions, a skit for the freshman and a game called the human machine. I had a lot of fun myself leading the kids around and talking to them. We were able to make a fun and exciting atmosphere which contributed to a positive first experience for the freshman at high school. The ability to give back, help others grow, and make the time worthwhile is the job of a mentor. In college I want to grow more than just academically. I strive to share lessons with others while . Sharing valuable lessons can be very rewarding; knowing that you were a part of helping a person grow can provided a greater sense of accomplishment than one may think. Many people have helped me grow but nobody has done more than my mom. She has pushed me to be inquisitive, work hard, reach eagle scout and help others. My mom has been a great mentor for me in everything I do. This has inspired me to mentor others inside of boy scouts. I took upon myself the role of Senior Patrol leader who has the job of being the youth leader of the troop. Our troop is boy run, boy lead meaning only the adults only handle the logistics of outings. As the Senior Patrol Leader or SPL this means teaching the younger scouts basic camping skill and older scouts about leadership. Specifically the SPL has many specific duties including: planning troop meetings, running the troop meetings, preparation for campouts, running the campouts, and ends with a week of summer camp. At summer camp around twenty five boys go and I have to lead them through nightly activities. In hopes to leave a permanent mark within Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. When I walked into college for the first time I had various expectations. Some of which were good and some were bad. For instance, after listening to people talk about it, just the thought of going to college was terrifying to even contemplate, but then sometimes it would appear to be impossible. However, after experiencing college firsthand I can say that my expectation and the reality were quite different. Although it can be intimidating, an enormous amount of work, and a considerable amount of stress to handle; college does not have to be terrifying, and is definitely feasible through dedication and perseverance. My first expectation of college was that it would be daunting, and that I would walk through life as a wallflower....show more content... To me, working to achieve my ultimate dream in life, which is to become a registered nurse, is worth all the effort and time it takes to fulfil that dream. Therefore, even though I know it will be hard and is going to take dedication, going to college is the only way to succeed in fulfilling my dreams. To achieve anything in life requires extreme commitment, but if I set my mind to attain a specific goal; there is nothing that can stop me. My expectations and the reality were very different in terms of being capable of managing everything in life in addition to being a college student. For example, in my mind being a college student was going to be entirely too stressful and that I would never be able to handle everything that life throws as a result of being too busy with my studies. On the contrary, being a full time student is not nearly as hard as by brain made it out to be. Once again, as long as college is prioritized properly, also, given that I am diligent in my studying anything is possible. In order to achieve the optimum results education must be at the top of the priority list, and if for any reason it falls below other things; my grades will suffer. Furthermore, diligence is vital to succeeding in college. Although it is intimidating, college does not have to be terrifying. In contrast to my earlier assumption, this phase on life is Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Essay: My Experience At Community College In the summer, I attended a guidance class at Chaffey College. I thought that community college was for people who drop out of high school and not take life seriously, but I got that idea from teachers who went straight to universities after high school. When I attended Chaffey, I was surprised to be in a diverse culture. The people that I have met were so different and the professors were very helpful than I expected. Suffering through the midst of exclusion taught me that there are so many options I can choose from in the future. Being a survivor from the destructive side effects of mind control was shocking enough. Fortunately, I recovered from the operation that poisoned every inch of my mind. I was glad that I attended Chaffey because Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. My Academic Experience My academic experience prior to college has been an exciting event through my life. During my schooling before college I learned about very important skills. The information I learned from my teachers helped me gain an understanding of the different techniques I needed to succeed in the real world. School also helped me develop better social skills which helped me become a better person. As a student in school I had many successful experiences, and challenges. These experiences and challenges that I faced helped me grow as a person. As a student school helped me improve my life in many aspects. My guidance counselor was a very kind man who was willing to help anyone in need. By speaking to my guidance counselor I was able to learn about different strategies to minimize stress and manage my time. He helped me create a schedule that would allow me to understand what I needed to do everyday. Having this scheduled allowed me to reduce stress and manage my time. My counselor would also check on me every month to see if I was doing well and keeping up with my school work. If I hadn't spoken to my counselor I would have fallen behind in school and in my daily activities. Overall my counselor assisted me with many of the challenges I faced in school. My transition from school to college was pretty easy. I already live in Orlando so I am familiar with the area and the college. The biggest difference between my school and this college is the size. Getting around the college during my first day was not easy. After wandering around the college and understanding where everything is I am now able to navigate myself to the classes. My experience so far at college has been great. I am currently majoring in biomedical sciences and hope to one day become a doctor. I am still adjusting to the amount of work and the class sizes at this college but I will get used to it. I look forward to doing well in college and landing a six figure income job. • 13. My College Experience : My Journey In College If anything could be say about my first semester of freshmen year is that, so far, it's definitely been a journey. In my opinion the wonderful part of college is that the independence granted allows for personal growth and responsibility which I Seem to be thriving on. This school year I have learned a lot about myself, but in a much more real sense it was just realizing what I already had. Having the privilege of being a Catholic Scholar has played a monumental role in my young adult life. Since the commencement of the semester the opportunity to bond with my cohort and form relationships with those who engage in a similar prayerful life has been quite amazing. Even without being in the program I still would be going to mass as well as partaking in lecturing, being an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, as well as also be in Music Ministry, however I would not have the friends or support system with the Catholic Scholars program. It's been a huge source of love and friendship and honestly it has aided in making my transition to college life a breeze. As a student, I have learned that I do extremely well in an independent setting. I really enjoy being able to set my own studying hours and having the ability to interact with a multitude of people throughout the course of my classes. However, I have also learned that college has two modes; everything hectic at once and a slow relaxed pace. It's taught me to challenge myself further and to push myself to remain Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. My Experience As A College Student Essay Introduction I have enjoyed the opportunity to be an active student in this class. I have been delighted to be able to speak in open discussions during lecture and I wish that more professors practiced this method. The objective of this paper is for me to demonstrate an understanding of my learning experiences through the information that I have learned over the duration of this course. I have chosen to focus on my experience as a college student as the main topic of my self–assessment. Many topic discussions in class have given me insight to the way that humans obtain and process information. The class sessions on confirmation basis, critical thinking and sleep were all very relatable to a returning college student like me. In the previous assessment, I discussed these key elements in detail regarding how I maintained a balance of normality in my life. In this paper, I will explain self–regulation and how the intrinsic method, extrinsic method, adaptation, and self–actualization all relate to learning as a college student. Past School Experience As anyone could imagine making the decision to return to school was not an easy one. I had been out of college since December of 2011. The last college that I attended was the University of Phoenix. I attended the ground campus in Sandy Springs, GA and the hour commute was killing me. Although I only attended school once a week the amount of time that was required for me to put into my class assignments was horrendous. I was Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. My College Experience Essay examples My College Experience Throughout my lifetime I have listened to people reflect back on their college experiences and explain how college is supposed to be "the best experience of your life." The summer after my senior year I use to try and imagine what my first semester was going to be like based on what I had heard people talk about in the past. After my first semester at NC State I realized that I couldn't fully understand what college was like until I experienced it for myself. My first couple of weeks at Ohio State was rough and really tested my strength (mental and physical). I faced challenges and obstacles that I had never heard about in those past college experience conversations. All of a sudden there was no one to get me out of...show more content... I can remember missing 8:05 classes because I stayed out too late the night before. In high school the teacher would constantly remind the students when certain assignments were due, but this was not the case in college. I learned that the hard way my first semester. Sometimes I forgot to turn in an assignment because I didn't properly read my syllabus and my professor never mentioned it. These were all new problems that could have easily let escalate without taking the proper actions. For the most part I was doing fairly well but a few of my grades began to plummet. I was losing the confidence in myself and started to wonder if going to college had been the best decision. The time had come for me to grow up and become an adult even I didn't feel the time was right. I immediately began attending tutoring sessions, working with peers and also keeping a daily to–do list. These factors were the eventually led to drastic improvement and success. After my first semester I learned how better manage my time, take advantage of campus resources and also how to organize myself better. These struggles also taught me that sometimes I try and rush through things instead of taking my time. I realized that one of my strong points is being able to really do well when my back is against the wall. Although I was unhappy while facing obstacles I am happy I experienced them. I believe this experience was the reason for my Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Went I graduated college I thought I was prepared and had all the tools I would need to succeed in college. In high school I did everything (or so I though) I took advanced placement classes, I had a after school job, I was dedicated and serious about my classroom. My first week of classes, I felt great, I thought I've got this no problem. Boy was I wrong. I began to struggle just a few week into classes and continued to struggle consistently throughout the year. Not just academically, but emotionally too. I was away from home for the first time, I moved to a new state and new city not knowing anyone for having the support I needed. After my barely scraping by my first year of college, I decided to move home and go to Ohio State. Thing did not really improve academically for me there and after 2 semesters I dropped out. At this point I was married and living on our own, I needed to work. I put my college education on hold for 11 years. During this time, I got a job as a receptionist in an office and worked there for 4 years until I was laid off. I few weeks later, I receive another receptionist job which lead to my career in Project Management. I worked as a project manager for 5 years, but still aspired to go back to college. Managing my time corresponds to how successful I will be in college and throughout life. Knowing and setting priorities to meet goals, carrying out plans, taking control of time, and staying focused are some events that are involved with time management. • 19. My Experience Of College Freshman Good Day Everyone I would like to share my first semester in college life and my experience. My first semester in college. I notice about've been noticing how college freshmen are so obviously college freshmen. I was extremely nervous about meeting people and making friends at National College of Business and Arts. I also totally remember the excitement, anxiousness and remarkable amount of cluelessness that comes with being a brand spankin' new college freshman. The first semester of my freshman year of college was a whole bunch of not getting what I wanted. Not getting things that I applied for. Not fitting into the group of people that I wanted to be friends with. Not having any of the guys that I was interested in be interested back. Not achieving the grades I wanted (and kind of assumed I would get). That's just a whole lot of experience...show more content... • 20. Personal Experience: College Life College was very much a paradox for me. College was the most challenging experiences in my life, and yet one of the best experiences I have ever had. During my undergraduate years, I met new people, took exciting courses, and learned to live without the daily guidance of my parents. And most of all, I was able to learn more about myself. After my first year, the pressure of living on campus, friends, and classes began to take a toll on me. I began to fall apart. I worked two jobs to support myself, knowing that I could not ask my parents frequently for money due to their own financial burdens at home. I had to constantly deal with the upheaval from my relationships with roommates, friends, and family. I began dealing with anxiety, and my confidence level dropped considerably. My schoolwork began to suffer, and I began to withdraw from my friends and family. There were times when I cried almost every day and felt as though I could not carry on. The hardest part of all of this was putting on a faГ§ade for the people around me as though everything was perfectly okay. I still wanted people to see my as the happy, smiling person that was always in a good mood. Seeing that my grades had plummeted and realizing that I was going through a depressed time in my life, made me take a stand to make changes in my life. I knew I could not sit around dwelling in my despair while life passed me by. As I continued to listen, I began to realize that many people have lived through the struggle I have. Soon, I fell in love with another amazing and powerful tool. This amazing tool is writing short stories along with my poetry. I was learning how to turn my voiceless drawings into a strong and outspoken being that i call my real words. At this point, I was doing well at crafts such as crocheting. I have always needed to work with my hands as I had grown up on a farm until I was 12.once we had left the farm, I needed a new way to occupy my hands so I began my drawing. I instantly fell in love with it and i wouldn't have known what to do without it.
