2. Initial Concept and Idea
My first project was a traffic light system to
indicate mood based on a reading from a
temperature sensor.
The concept behind this project seemed solid,
although through practice it became clear that
the results were both unreliable and hazy.
4. Reflections of My Initial Project
• Expanded my knowledge of arduino vastly
• Allowed me to discover more reliable ways of
collating data and findings
• Extenuated how important aesthetics are, and
that my next concept should be more visually
pleasing
• The data given by the temperature sensor was
very inaccurate, therefore this allowed me to
experiment with other sensors.
5. Secondary and Final Ideas
• Using what I have learned from my first
project, I am going to be more focused on
aesthetics as well as the technical process.
• I am also going to be using different sensors
for detection as the results from the
temperature sensor were to varied.
• The ‘mood detection’ basis will still remain.
6. My Concept
• The ‘Mood Room’
• A similar concept as the traffic light system,
indicating lights through a sensor, this time
the lights will be a mix of colour depending on
the variable given.
• The sensor I will be using (and making) will be
a heart rate monitor as I believe the simple
structure will provide more accurate data.
8. Colours and Moods
Although there is no
distinct measure of
colour and mood, I
believe this chart had a
fair indication. However, I
will have to take this
information and create
my own chart based on
colours and heart rate.
Rather than using
standard colours (much
like my traffic light
system) I want to use a
mix and array of colours
to show many
variables, not just three.
9. My Design
My original drawing, although
incomplete, shows the mood room
basis idea. To have a chair in which
the heart rate monitor is situated
in the arm, so that it can be read
through the fingertip. Around the
chair the flowers will be gathered
in a tree formation. The flowers
will be made from Perspex in a
simple handmade origami
style, capturing the highlights from
the LEDs organically. The room will
be completely dark so that the
lights and the mood room overall
are more aesthetic and effective.
11. Arduino Component Plans
My plan is to use a similar
setup as shown. Using an
Infrared emitter to transmit a
signal through the fingertip
and then bounce back to the
photodiode to give a rhythm
of data through arduino, this
can then narrowed into
spectrums to which I can
write code for certain colours
etc to be given out by the
flowers.
