things from a different perspective.
4. Working on several different solutions to a problem is how
creative geniuses exercise their creativity.
5. True creative geniuses always organize their ideas. Doing so
helps them process and recollect their thoughts.
6. Never following a routine lets geniuses experience new things
every day.
7. True creative geniuses are motivated by their ability to change
the world.
8. Having a promising and positive outlook on problems
empowers geniuses to find solutions.
9. Creative geniuses enjoy being creative, and try to create
something new every single day.
10. If you loved doing this quiz then you were open to feedback, a
trait of all creative geniuses.
Define Creativity:
How does the idea that creativity is our heart speaking
some personal truth change the importance of creative
thought and/or action?
Look at this Chart and think of your average
day. Think about time spent on certain
activities…
Just as
our
spiritual
life can
overlay
our daily
activities
…our
creative
life can as
well, once
we
become
more
aware of
our
creative
process
Now we will warm up our brain a
bit…
1.Grab 2 different
colored markers
2.Grab 2 sheets of
paper
1.Watch me at the
easel
Play along…
Researchers from the University of Utah found with brain imaging
that people don't use the right sides of their brains any more than
the left sides of their brains, or vice versa. This exercise gets our
whole brain working together.
Let’s play for a moment… use the disks at your
table to make this layout:
Right now
the
“arrowhead
“ points
down.
Moving only 3 disks
make the
“arrowhead” point
up….
Did you get
it?
Creativity is not art, art is a byproduct of creative
thinking….
Ways to Kick Start Creativity
1. Steal Others Work
Observe the greats and
recreate what they did. It will
automatically pull out
something that is your own as
well. Start by standing on
the shoulders of giants.
Embrace your influences
because there is no such
thing as originality.
*Hunter S. Thompson retyped
The Great Gatsby word for
word to know how it felt to
write the great American
Novel.
*Richard Pryor started out by
2. Subtract
Let’s Steal this idea and
subtract words from some
newspaper articles…grab
an article and a
sharpie…and since the #3
way to kick start creativity
is to IMPOSE
LIMITATIONS…lets give
ourselves 5 minutes to
create a blackout poem.
“Telling yourself you have all
the time money and resources
in the world kills creativity” –
Jack White
Taking an idea down to
its essential elements
clarifies the idea.
Subtract the parts you
don’t need as you go.
“If a man writes clearly
enough anyone can see if he
fakes. If he mystifies to avoid
a straight statement, the writer
only takes longer time to be
3. Limitation and
Structure
More choice actually makes us
less happy.
Robert Rodriguez actually asks for
less money when making movies
because he feels it makes him
work smarter.
Dr. Seuss was limited to 50 words
4. or less Combine for Green Elements
Eggs and Ham
and it is one of the best selling
children’s books ever!
Synthesis, when done effectively
creates something new. Linking the un-linkable
proves possibility exists where
we didn’t think it did.
Steve Jobs didn’t invent music he just
made it easier to access. Picasso didn’t
invent paint just painted differently.
Remixing is creativity.
1.Grab a word out of the grab bag at your
table
2.Since COLLABORATION can enhance
ideas…work together with a partner to
combine your words and create
something new
3.You can create an object of art, pitch for
a movie, new gadget, anything that
makes sense to you that synthesis both
of the words
4. Use sketch paper if you’d like to
brainstorm…be ready to share your
#5: A.B.O.
Always
Be
Open
Embrace experiences and allow them
to change you. To be creative you
must always be seeking new ideas,
opportunities and possibility. That
means exposing yourself to failure
often.
Take a moment to write down 3
experiences that shaped who
you are.
Be Vulnerable
On a post it note…write down no more than 5
people in your life who have opinions that
really matter to you.
Creatives are capable of
facing difficulty and using it
to help them grow.
Face Fear
Our creative selves know
that if there is something we
fear, there is something to be
learned.
Where there is tension there
can be true beauty. As
humans we must be willing
to face heartbreak, death
and loss to bear witness to
the life we have. If you are
going to say yes to life we
say yes to it all and find
beauty in all of it. Even the
things that scare us. For
often it is passing through
that fear that gives us our
biggest rewards.
If creativity is our heart’ voice…
We are all creative and have something to express. It is
raw human potential.
Creativity is the largest factor in our day to day life.
It gave us all our buildings, our culture, our ability to defy
gravity.
We need to value individual voice and creative thought,
and this includes our own. As teachers we are modeling
what it means to have a creative life for our students, our
children, ourselves.
Find a way to express yourself…be it cooking, or dancing,
singing or painting, writing or woodworking. We will need
you to use it in the teacher talent show.
