2. Film Trailer Brief: Romance Genre
Setting:
• From my research I have found out that a suitable setting for the
romance genre is a beach. This is usually used in a romance film.
• Also the setting could be in a house because it is showing the
relationship with two people, possibly living together.
• Going to social places such as parties or restaurants is a good
setting for this genre because it suits the characters’ lives.
3. Film Trailer Brief: Romance Genre
• Use of props:
• To create romance in the trailer, a typical prop would be a
candle for example when the couple have a meal.
• Also I feel that it is typical for the trailer to show conflict so possibly
a mobile phone could be used to give evidence of this conflict.
• Another prop which I have seen in many romance trailers are
love letters from each person in the relationship to indicate the
romance and love.
4. Film Trailer Brief: Romance Genre
• Costume:
• For the male characters it is typical for them to be well dressed
and I would probably have the male character in a suit and be
smartly dressed.
• For the female characters I would have them wearing a dress or
something girly to indicate the femininity. Also the female
characters in romance trailers I have seen have worn revealing
dresses which connotes the romance and love between the
characters.
5. Film Trailer Brief: Romance Genre
• Lighting:
• In my trailer I think I would prefer the lighting to be kept low key
because it connotes the romance and intimacy between characters.
• However high key lighting connotes the happiness in the relationship so
this lighting would be ideal as well.
• Makeup:
• The female characters would probably wear make up as it makes them
look more seductive which is stereotypical for the romance genre.
• From my research I have seen that the typical make up for this genre is
red lipstick as it shows intimacy and romance.
6. Film Trailer Brief: Romance Genre
• Camerawork:
• The camerawork would mostly consist of wide shots, close ups
and long shots.
• From my research I have found out that this is typical for the
romance trailer. I think that the close ups show the intimacy
between the characters which is a key element in the romance
genre.
• The wide shots and long shots can be used for any scene as it is
able to show all of the characters and the situation they are in.

• Sound:
• The music used will indicate what kind of situation the characters
are in. When the trailer shows a conflict between the couple I
think that slow paced music would fit that scene. However if the
trailer shows happy moments, fast paced music will be used.
• Dialogue will be a key element of this trailer because it helps
show some of the storyline.
• Depending on what kind of conflict there is, sound effects would
probably be used due to the fact that most trailers use sound
effects.
