1. Traditional monetary systems simply mint/print new money.
2. Bitcoin isn’t traditional.
3. Mining is the process of resolving Bitcoin transactions.
4. Solving computationally complex problems.
5. Prevent tampering and create a secure record.
6. The process of mining requires a record of all transactions.

7. Bitcoin ledger = blockchain
8. Public ledger
9. Mining = adding transactions to Bitcoin ledger.
10. Ledger/blockchain = chain of blocks
11. The blockchain validates transactions.
12. Keeps track of everything, including ownership.
13. The blockchain prevents double spending by updating the ledger
and reaching consensus.

5. How Mining Works
1. When a new group of transactions is created, it’s added to the
blockchain.
2. Accomplished through consensus.
3. Updated approximately every 10 minutes.
4. The mining process occurs during this time.
5. Groups of transactions are converted into a hash.
6. Hash stored in the blockchain along with the group of
transactions.
7. Nonrefutable.
8. Creates trust.

9. Every block gets a hash.
10. Every hash is created from the hash of the prior block.
11. Group hash is created from blocks in group of transactions.
12. It also uses the hash from the last transaction.
13. This process makes it practically impossible to alter/corrupt the
blockchain.
14. Mining doesn’t create new Bitcoins, transactions, or update the
blockchain.
15. Miners rewarded with Bitcoin.
