This document outlines a student project to design and fabricate a pedal-powered washing machine. It presents the advantages of such a machine as saving electricity, detergent, water, and protecting hands from chemicals while providing exercise. The working principle and previous work on similar machines are discussed. Figures illustrate the basic working principle and previous Japanese and sewing machine-based designs. The conclusion is that a pedal-powered washing machine can address issues of electricity consumption and environmental pollution from traditional electric washing machines.
