Mike Green is Co-founder of ScaleUp Partners LLC, a national consultancy specializing in
inclusive economic competitiveness strategies that assists cities, institutional and organization
leaders, local policymakers and regional economic development stakeholders create effective
plans for building 21st
century inclusive and sustainable local economies.
ScaleUp Partners is the pioneer of Inclusive Competitiveness® strategies: community systems,
frameworks and measures that improve the measurable performance outcomes of
underrepresented populations in the Innovation Economy to bolster regional competitiveness.
Mike is a nationally recognized expert on the economic history of black Americans in the US
economy and development of inclusive prosperity strategies, inclusive entrepreneurial
ecosystems and development of generational wealth for underrepresented populations
(women, minorities and residents of rural regions).
Mike is a recognized economic equity expert by the National League of Cities and has been
invited to work with their teams on developing recommended strategies for improving racial
economic equity outcomes in Nashville, TN and St. Louis, MO.
Mike has authored and edited a number of reports and essays on economic development,
entrepreneurship and creating inclusive ecosystems for equitable access to economic
opportunities with pathways to shared prosperity:
“Developing the Entrepreneurial Mindset,” the first chapter in the university
textbook, Media Innovation & Entrepreneurship,” published for higher
education in 2017.
Case Studies: Detroit, New Orleans and Durham, NC – research reports
produced for Forward Cities in 2017-18.
From Segregation to Gentrification – Lesson from Seattle and Detroit: How city
policies and NIMBYism lead to unimpeded market forces displacing poor people
of color, a research essay published in 2018.
“Inclusive Competitiveness: Empowering Underrepresented Ohioans to Compete
in the Innovation Economy,” a research report for the Ohio Board of Higher
Education produced in collaboration with Johnathan Holifield and unanimously
adopted in 2014 by the Board. Mr. Holifield is Executive Director of the White
House Initiative on HBCUs.
“New Prosperity Paradigm,” an essay published in “The State of Black Oregon
2015” a report produced by the Portland Urban League.

Can We Build Inclusive, Innovative, Local Economies? A continuing column on
economic inclusion and competitiveness, published in Governing Magazine.
Mike is the Senior Strategic Advisor for the nation’s first Center for Inclusive Competitiveness®
at Temple University.
Mike edited the critically acclaimed book produced by ScaleUp Partners in 2017 titled, “The
Future Economy and Inclusive Competitiveness: How Demographic Trends and Innovation Can
Create Economic Prosperity for All Americans,” authored by ScaleUp co-founder, Johnathan
Holifield, with foreword written by former Deputy Secretary of Commerce for Economic
Development, Jay Williams.
COMMUNICATIONS: Through ScaleUp, Mike works with community groups, activists, city
leaders, regional development organizations, universities, foundations and research institutions,
helping bridge communication divides and develop collaborative coalitions at the local level
across socioeconomic and racial fault lines.
STRATEGY: As a strategic advisor, Mike assists cities and communities to effectively identify and
address systemic gaps and establish equitable pathways and bridges between 20th
century
obsolescence and 21st
century entrepreneurial ecosystems, connecting left-behind populations
to today’s knowledge-based, tech-driven, globally competitive Innovation Economy.
PARTNERS: ScaleUp is partnered with Forward Cities, a national learning collaborative between
33 cities of innovation and inclusive growth. Mike also produced an “Entrepreneur’s Playbook”
for InBIA.org.
JOURNALISM: Mike has 20 years of experience as an award-winning journalist and newsroom
editor. Mike is a former New York Times Leadership Academy Fellow, a former Media
Innovations leader with Dow Jones Local Media Group with social media training at CNN.com.

VETERAN: Mike is a 12-year military veteran, former US Navy engineer and 1987 Sailor of the
Year aboard USS Anchorage (an amphibious assault vessel carrying Marines and SEALS). Mike
also received every Navy award available for successful recruiting over a four-year tour of duty
1989-93.
