Reminder about mitosis Mitosis produces two nuclei that are identical to each other and the parent cell Every cell in your body has 46 chromosomes (except for sex cells – we will learn about these next week) You began as a cell with 46 chromosomes in the nucleus
What is reproduction? Reproduction is a process where an organism produces others of the same kind There are two types of reproduction in living organisms: Asexual Sexual
Asexual reproduction Occurs by mitosis in eukaryotic cells  The new organism has genetic information that is IDENTICAL to its parent  Both have advantages and disadvantages- what are some you can think of? E.g.
