The Causes And Positive Effects Of Ecotourism

environmental education promotes using the natural resources in correctly and being in responsible

Culture defined is the customs, arts, social institutions, and achievements of a particular nation
people, or other social group. The history of cultures across the globe expose mankind to insight and
a better comprehension of why and how varying traditions and habits are formed. To illustrate this
point, a look into the cultures of Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic,
Costa Rica, and Nicaragua. To begin, fringing the western coast of South America, Ecuador.
Ecuador, albeit small, is entrenched in culture. Having over 15 million citizens, this mostly Spanish–
speaking country, also is known for its native tongue Quichua, along with others. The capital of
Ecuador is Quito and is most known for superior cuisine. Major products of Ecuador include, but
not exclusive, petroleum, coffee, beans, bananas, and cocoa. Adorning the coast are the beautiful
beaches of Guayas, Canoa, and Esmeraldas, while inland are many volcanoes, the most popular of
which is Volcan Cotopaxi. To add, the Galapagos Islands, home to "enchanted archipelago of
fearless creatures" (National Geographic). Just south of Ecuador sits a much larger Peru. With a
population of over 30 million citizens, this mountainous, yet tropical coastal country remains
entrenched in its Amerindian and Spanish culture. Peru boasts its ... Show more content on

Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Panama are three other countries deeply immersed in tradition. Panama
is known for its many attributes. One such, albeit man–made, the Panama Canal which was dredged
in 1914 and advanced shipping business by connecting the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. The
traditional music of Panama could be likened to that of American classic country music, along with
the Latin cumbia and salsa. Nicaraguan festivals include characters wearing masks and enjoying
dancing. It also has fifty–eight volcanoes, but only six remain

Reflection Paper
My life once consisted of waking up, school, homework, church and going to bed only to do it all
once again. When I was six, I moved across the Atlantic from Nigeria, and away from a life that I
was told to appreciate, and classify as pure happiness. My first community was one that consisted of
people that looked exactly like me, who had the strength to move mountains. I was taught to
appreciate my culture as I watched my grandmother carry the load from the market on top of her
head for the thirty minute walk from the market without any complaints. My mom was a working
woman, and still found the time to raise me and take care of her family, without ever really taking a
moment for herself. The strength that I was surrounded by would motivate me to be the best version
of myself, and to work harder, despite any obstacles in my way.
In America, I began to my search for my personal definition of happiness and success. This would
lead me on a tangled and bumpy journey in which I have finally been able to begin to unravel a
small segment of. For a while I was pulled into the American Dream and the what–every–African–
immigrant–parent–wants–for–their–children stereotype aiming to please my mom because, after all,
every parent wants the best for their kids.
In my journey to escape this cocoon and the newly discovered stereotypes about black Americans
living in Harlem, I discovered a program that would allow me to venture into a new chapter of my
life and begin to experience the happiness I once sought. A Better Chance (ABC), drove me to
experience new cultures, a new way of living, and different forms of thinking after living a life spent
sheltered from reality in order to protect my innocence. ABC is a nonprofit organization that helps
academically gifted young minorities get into private day schools and boarding schools. Another
extension of ABC is the community school program, of which I am a member.
As I became an A Better Chance scholar, the transition from life in New York City to life in Guilford
would be a difficult, yet empowering one. For the first few weeks of school, I felt like an outsider
looking into a school that was predominantly Caucasian with many of the students in my school

The Visual Economy Of Andean Childhood Poverty Summary
Sinervo and Hill's article "The Visual Economy of Andean Childhood Poverty: Interpreting
Postcards in Cusco, Peru" looks at the production, circulation and consumption of postcards in
Cusco, Peru. While examining this article a few questions came to mind, 1– How are Andean
children presented in the postcards Sinervo and Hill's examine in this article ? How does the framing
of these postcards, through the use of text and visual imagery, influence our perception of the "poor
Andean child"? Why do you think tourists are keen to purchase such images? 2– What are some
common misconceptions tourists have about the child vendors discussed in this article? Have you
ever had any personal interactions with child vendors? If so, what were the similarities and
differences between your interactions and the ones discussed in the article. Has this article changed
your perception of child vendors? 3– Do you believe the Andean children featured on these
postcards are being exploited for the financial gain of those who sell and produce these postcards?
Does your opinion change knowing that the sellers are Andean children themselves and the
producers are, for the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
How does the framing of these postcards, through the use of text and visual imagery, influence our
perception of the "poor Andean child"? Why do you think tourists are keen to purchase such
images? There is certainly a lot to unpack in Sinervo and Hill's article regarding the visual
representation of Andean childhood poverty on postcards sold to tourists in Cusco, Peru.
Throughout the article, postcard images of children with dirty faces, torn clothing and matted hair
have come to represent childhood poverty in the Andes. These images, carefully constructed to elicit
emotional responses by those who view them, present Andean children as unsupervised and
unkempt, "abandoned" or "trapped" in their rural

Historical Destruction Of Machu Picchu
Many archaeological sites and artifacts around the globe have fell victims to cultural heritage
destruction. Whether it be from weather and climate change, tourism, the taking of artifacts, or
degradation over time. Cultural heritage destruction can be defined as the destruction or elimination
of historic sites, artifacts, or materials. Some people, whether it be government, an organization, or
individuals, work to protect and fund the preservation and maintenance of important historic
archeological remains. While other unfortunate sites are demolished, ransacked, or looted due to
lack of protection. Machu Picchu, located in the Andes mountains in Peru, is considered one of the
seven wonders of the world, as well as an archeological marvel built by the Inca people. However,
this historical site has come under protection due to cultural heritage destruction from tourists and
environmental degradation. Over the years, Machu Picchu has begun to erode due to an enormous
amount of tourism and climate changes. Luckily the Peruvian government has begun to take action
to protect one of the world's most well preserved mysteries and architecturally advanced sites of
early modern history.
The Inca Empire lasted throughout the fifteenth and sixteenth century, and was based largely
throughout South America. The Inca's called this spanse of land the Tahuantinsuyu, or "Land of the

Spanish Personal Statement
I am pursuing a Spanish minor and believe that immersion is the best way to become fluent.
Studying abroad in Peru would give me the opportunity to speak, write, think and dream in Spanish.
While Spanish can be learned in many countries throughout the world, Peru offers an environment
with a familiar dialect, accelerating my comfort with the language. I am planning on minoring in
Spanish not only because I enjoy the language, but because it will differentiate me from other
students. I have a rather large Spanish vocabulary and know the grammatical rules, but I need and
environment that I will hear and speak it on a regular basis. Without immersing myself in the
Spanish language, I will be unable to gain the speaking and listening skills I need to become fluent.
Over winter break I had the amazing opportunity to spend a week in Lima, Peru, and although my
visit was short, I fell in love with the country and its people. I stayed with a family there, and they
included me in their daily lives and made me feel welcome. While this may not seem like an
academic goal, I believe that much of what I learn will occur outside of the classroom. My rate of
learning will grow exponentially while communicating with ... Show more content on

My Spanish is strong, but I am not fluent. I believe that I would struggle to learn new concepts in a
foreign language. English proficiency is a graduation requirement at San Ignacio de Loyola
University, and the local students must take 30% of their coursework in English. I believe that this
environment will increase what I learn without interfering with my desire for immersion. Another
benefit of the program is that I would be in a classroom with both local and international students.
This mix of cultures will give me an opportunity to become close to people from many areas of the
world and learn about life from many different

The Contribution Of Our Middle School

and the purpose of the contribution. Our Middle School is currently a Title I and is located in a
rural/agriculture neighborhood of Guilford, North Carolina. Title I schools promote the
improvement of the academic achievement of the disadvantaged students. Approximately 72% of
the students' population gets reduced lunch prices. Likewise, most of students come from mainly
low–income minority families. The school serves around 730 students from sixth to eighth grade
that comprised an ample diversity such as Multiracial; Black, non–Hispanic; and White, non–
Hispanic. Our students' performance ranks below the District averages. The school ... Show more

In this respect, we have identified a collection of cultural posters that cover most of the countries.
Definitely, this collection will help us to reinforce and enrich the foreign language middle school
curriculum. In line with Title I mission to help disadvantage students, especially in economically
restrained neighborhoods, we respectfully request a grant for $ 700 to acquire the aforementioned
posters collection. 2. Description of the problem you wish to address, the solution you propose, and
how IBM technology, and IBM volunteers, if appropriate, will be incorporated. The World
Languages curriculum consists of four Essential standards, including "Interpersonal", "Interpretive",
"Presentational", and "Culture" which are delivered in one semester. In regards to the last strand, the
students are required to build an understanding of the practices, perspectives and products of
different cultures and societies. Likewise, the students is required to compare their own culture and
the target culture.. It is expected to teach and prepare our student to compete in a global society and
help them to expand their knowledge of the world. This knowledge implies to teach concepts that
are obviously very diverse and complex and require an extra effort from students and teachers. To
complicate things, most of our students lack the

A High Level Assessment Of The Global Economic Outlook
A high–level assessment of the Global Economic Outlook will be provided in this section along with
a Regional and a Country–specific Outlook. This macroeconomic view of environmental conditions
will serve as the foundational element and will set the guiding principles to conduct in–depth
industry and company–wide analyses.
Global Economic Outlook According to the World Economic Forum's Global Challenge Initiative,
there is a generalized slowdown in emerging market economies, a lowering of commodity prices,
international political uncertainty and a gradual tightening of monetary policy in the US. The road to
recovery must address:
Loss of confidence on the economic system's ability to deliver sustained economic growth
Barriers to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Meanwhile, we expect growth to firm in Mexico as the US recovery strengthens. However, inflation
expectations remain elevated on the back of a possible hike in the minimum wage. Notwithstanding
the current spotlight on the drugs war, Mexico is expected to grow just below the average annual
inflation rate on the back of higher private sector investment and increased government spending.
Transfer risks and sovereign default risks are elevated in Argentina and Venezuela as foreign
reserves slid by 20% and 8% respectively in 2015.Political tensions persist in Venezuela, as the
scarcity of basic goods and services is acute despite drastic government controls. Additional
intervention in the retail sector is likely to ensue. A gradual improvement in Peru and Chile (linked
to expected improvements in the global economy) is also anticipated. The Chilean senate 's approval
of a package of tax reform means firms face higher tax liabilities in the coming year.
Peru will seek to forge stronger regional relations with neighboring countries; especially Brazil with
which it already enjoys robust trade and investment ties. The country will also continue to favor
regional integration efforts, such as the Union of South American Nations and the recently
established Pacific Alliance, a trade bloc also comprising Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica and Mexico.

Peru Mission Trip
We stayed in a hotel in Miraflores, a wealthy district of Lima. The main street, filled with bright
lights and tall buildings, gave an impression that a city like London or New York would give, but
only one street away the buildings consisted of unfinished four story hotels and parks filled with
stray cats. The hotel had an open roof, so I went to get a view of the city, and I saw something very
different from what I hoped for. Almost every building had unfinished additional floors, with only
tin roofs over their heads. Shockingly, this went on for miles in the wealthiest district of the city.

Peru is not only mountains like most people think, the country actually has chilly sierras, a dry
coast, and a humid jungle. Peru is a large country of contrasts when it comes to the regions and
climates that come with each region (Shields 10–13). The amount of people occupying these regions
in the country is an impressive 30.95 million as of 2013 (Gottlieb 1). The culture of course, like any
other country, has little differences in traditions and the ways of life depending on the part of the

Similarities Between Latin American And Caribbean
Latin American and Caribbean are one of the richest countries when it comes to natural resources.
The natural resources that they have are some of the most useful ones in the world and that consists
of gold, oil, iron, sugar and many more. World Bank stated that "Latin America produced around 80
percent of the world's silver in the 16th through 19th centuries, fueling the monetary systems of not
only Europe, but China and India as well". This shows that Latin America had so much natural
resources that others depended on them. Since Latin America and the Caribbean has all of this

During the past few years the tourism in these countries has increased which helps them get more
money in the country and make the economy grow a little but this is not going to help the country's
GDP increase a lot because this is only one part of the income that contributes to all of the Latin
American and Caribbean countries. In "Regional Economic Outlook: Western Hemisphere Northern
Spring, Southern Chills" It was stated that "Latin America and the Caribbean are the known spot for
tourist destinations". This shows us that the Latin America and the Caribbean are beautiful places
but their economy just isn't doing the best. Also tourism is not the only source of income for the
countries because these countries also hves oil which is one of the leading asset in Latin America
and Caribbean economy. There was also a sharp drop in oil prices in 2014 and cheaper oil is creating
significant relief, which is cutting import bills by 3–4 percentage points of the GDP on average. This
helps other countries look at Latin America and Caribbean as places to get cheap oil. This will
ultimately help Latin America and Caribbean get some money for their economy which will increase

Introduction After the signing of the Convention on Biological Diversity in the United Nations
Congress on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, a number of development
projects addressing the theme of biodiversity has considerably increased. Many of these projects
have been channeled through the Global Environment Facility (GEF) or other international
agencies. Also, many bilateral projects have seen light. In the aftermath of the signing of the
Convention the Peruvian Government approached the Finnish Government in 1995 with a proposal
of a technical assistance project to assess the biological diversity of Peruvian Amazonia and to assist
Peru in developing a national strategy for conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity in that
region – a requirement of the Convention. This request was a result of a long–term research
engagement between Peru and Finland through institutional cooperation between Peruvian
institutions and universities and the University of Turku in Finland. This cooperation had already
produced valuable new insights to assessment of biodiversity in Peruvian Amazonia (Kalliola et al.
1993, Tuomisto et al. 1995, Ruokolainen et al. 1997, Kalliola & Flores 1998). The Peruvian
proposal resulted in a three–year cooperation project (1999–2002) between the governments of Peru

Essay on Tourism Effects on Machu Picchu
High in the Andean mountain range, nestled on a ridge between two mountains high above the
valley floor below sits the amazing city and archaeological site of Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu is
about 1400 kilometers south of the Equator on the eastern slope of the Peruvian Andes. The site lies
near the head waters of the Amazon River and is on the ridge between two prominent mountain
peaks – Machu Picchu and Hauyna Picchu – about 500 meters above the valley bottom (Wright and
Kenneth, 2–3). Machu Picchu, believed to be the royal estate of the Inca ruler Pachacuti, is the most

It also encourages civic involvement and pride from the people. The tourist industry helps to provide
cultural exchanges between local people and tourists from around the globe. There is also the
immense benefit from the encouragement of and preservation of the celebration of local festivals
and cultural events that might otherwise be lost over time. The final benefit to the social aspect of
Machu Picchu's community is that the tourism industry helps to facilitate the infrastructure and
facilities that are used by tourism (e.g. the railway) and in doing so, it can prove to also benefit the
residents as well (e.g. transportation maintenance and support). (Barcelona Field Studies Centre
S.L., Machu Picchu: Impact of Tourism)
Tourism also has its costs/down–sides. One of the social costs to the community because of tourism
is that it may attract visitors whose lifestyles and ideas may conflict with the community's (which
commonly happens throughout the world, a good example of this can be seen in the settling of North
America, and the effect it had on the Native Americans). Tourism could also lead to the overloading
of porters which would lead to health problems. A loss of traditional values and culture is a possible
outcome as well, through imitation of visitor behavior or

Machu Picchu And The New Seven Wonders Of The World
Machu Picchu the lost city of the Inca is lying on a mountain edge 2,430 meter (7,970 ft) above
ocean level and it is situated in Peru. In 2007, the recorded place of Peru "Machu Picchu" was voted
as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in an overall Internet survey. (Wikipedia, 2017)
Presently gives us a chance to perceive any reason why Machu Picchu is viewed as worldwide as
the recorded place and why archeologists around the globe demonstrate their huge enthusiasm on it.
As in this present time most current archeologists and history specialists trust that Machu Picchu
was worked by the Inca Pachacutec and the best statesman of Tahuantinsuyo, who administered over

prejudices were topics brought up during our experience with the students of

Fiorella's most important tradition is to go to church every sunday then eat lunch with her
grandparents. The most popular tradition in Peru, according to the students, is Thanksgiving and
New Years. It is a tradition to wear all white clothers. Another thing that I learned is that Peruvians
do not celebrate Holloween because it is the same day as the criolla song, which is where people

things about stereotypes and prejudices. To them, America is too proud or patriotic. Some of the
students said that America is not educated enough about Peru's culture.

Additional jobs, ranging from low–wage entry–level to high–paying professional positions in
management and technical fields. Tourism acts as an export industry by generating new revenues
from external sources. A host nation will gain foreign exchange, which will contribute to improve
the nation's balance of payments. For example in Australia, the economic benefits of tourism are
well documented. In 1997/98, tourism consumption in Australia totalled $58.2 billion contributing
4.5% of Australia's total GDP and 6% of its employment. While in Caribbean, tourism as a means of

citizens, and revenue to government. Proponents of tourism argue that the movement away from the
cash–crop economy that dominated the Caribbean since the colonial period, toward a tourism based
economy will build a much sounder economic foundation. In Jamaica, a tourist trade development

Historical Destruction Of Machu Picchu

Many archaeological sites and artifacts around the globe have fallen victim to cultural heritage

Accommodation : Places of tourists' interest must be capable enough to provide good
accommodation and catering facilities. A type of accommodation required by tourists depends on
their lives–styles, standard of living, capacity to spend money, nature of services expected, etc.
Classification of accommodation centers, i.e. various hotels, motels, dormitories, etc. on basic of
rating like five stars and below are essential so that tourists can make a proper choice and plan their
trips appropriately. Generally, tourism mostly prospers in those areas where good lodging and food

Taquileans
In Elayne Zorn's book of community based tourism in Peru, Weaving the future, Tourism, Cloth, and
Culture on an Andean Island, Zorn talks about the successful efforts of the Taquileans in managing

cultural identity of the indigenous people of the Andes and Taquile. The book offers an
anthropological view of one of the best–managed community based tourism destination in South

Taquile after being praised in a popular travel guide, Taquileans came up with multiple ways to

New revenues from tourism usually flows to the land owners and businessmen while the residents
suffer from increasing cost of living. This might cause a mal–distribution of income. New
employment opportunities attract people to migrate to the resort area, creating new social and
cultural problems.
3. Socio–Cultural Impacts Social impacts can be thought of 'as changes in the lives of people who
live in destination communities, which are associated with tourist activity' in regard to moral
conduct, creative expressions. Cultural impacts can be thought of as the changes in the arts,
traditional ceremonies, customs and rituals and architecture of people that result form tourism
activity. Socially tourism has a great influence on the host societies. Tourism can be both a source of
international amity, peace and understanding. Here are possible positive effects of tourism:
Developing positive attitudes towards each other Learning about each other's culture and customs

Tree Frogs
Preservation of the Peruvian amazon forest is at stake since farmers and hunters are dismantling the
habitat of the tree frogs and other species by using poor farming techniques. We must pay attention
to the damage being caused and focus on certain Eco Tipping Points to help bring balance back to
the forest. Therefore raising tree frogs in the Peruvian Amazon will help increase the health of the
forest, increase income for farmers, and provide education about the benefits of tree frogs.
The decision that was taken by ecologist Rainer Shulte will help bring the problem from a decline to
definite restoration (Suutari, 2005). Many don't understand the benefits of the tree frog and how
their extinction could lead to negative effects. Tree frogs along with other frogs are used as an insect
regulator and tend to consume mosquitos. Lowering the chance of disease being spread for which is
carried by mosquitos (Suutari, 2005). Another thing gaining awareness is the increase of greenhouse
gases since carbon levels are lowering (Lancaster, 2014). That equals about 40% of carbon loss due
to deforestation (Lancaster, 2014). Loss of habitat is one of the most unappreciated difficulties that
our world faces.
Farmers are struggling with making a living; therefore farming frogs can help bring in an extra
amount of money. Since they are high in demand, more people will buy and eventually more
farmers will contribute and help develop more frog farms (Suutari, 2005). Since the frogs were in

In the article titled 'Tourism in poor regions and social inclusion: the porters of the Inca Trail to
Machu Picchu' in vol. 53, no. 2, pp. 104–118 of the World Leisure Journal in 2011, Arrelano
describes how the exclusion/inclusion theory has affected the lives of the porters on the Inca Trail.
The porters are the native indigenous people of Peru that have been discriminated against due to not
speaking Spanish, are uneducated and lack wealth and power. The article explains the successful
remedies used to alleviate these issues, but the failure to implement the laws to protect the porters
means that they are still unfairly treated. Arrelano has used qualitative methods of research to gather

They are known as the Quechua people of the Inca Trail. The Quechua people live in extreme
poverty and are regarded as second–class citizens. The Quechua people face constant discrimination
and racism from the other ethnic groups. The porters do not speak Spanish, the national language of
Peru; they lack the basic human rights to survive, as well as education opportunities to improve their
lives. The tourism industry generally has positively impacted the lives of the porter people. Tourism
has raised awareness of the social and economic injustice conditions that the porters have been
facing for centuries. The tourism industry has offered the porters the chance of employment that
requires no basic education levels, only physicality was the requirement. However, the porters are
still being exploited in the form of lower wages and lack of access to basic human rights from the
local people of Peru. The porters lack access to social, political and economic opportunities in Peru.
The porters are socially excluded from society due to their lack of wealth. This leads to lower
education levels amongst the group, thus the political opportunities are very minimal. The porters
are racially discriminated against due to their ethic race; as such they earn inadequate wages
compared to their peers. With the lack of access to wealth, power and education the porters are

Aztec And Inca Similarities
In Mesoamerica and South America two very unique and mysterious settlements exist today. In the
15th century during the "Late Horizon" (Kleiner, p.1089) the Inca or Inka created an empire. In the
following 16th century the Aztec people established their own empire. Thousands of miles apart,
these two cultures share some striking similarities and differences. The religious beliefs of both
cultures would be the foundation for every facet of life, including the massive architectural
settlements they left behind. For the Inca in South America their religious beliefs were
interconnected to agricultural, personal and political outcomes. A strong connection to astrology is

Pros And Cons Of Code Of Ethics
Recognizing the Evaluative Standpoints
For years archeologists and other specialists have stressed and continue to stress the need for a
professional code of ethics for the treatment of human remains. Moral phenomenology along with
the controversy that surrounds ownership rights have been the primary concerns for those interested
in the creation of such code. Jien Kim and Dawnie W. Steadman tackle the challenge by laying out
ground rules that must be followed to ensure the development of an equitable set of conduct
guidelines. In their article, "A Review of Codes of Ethics in the United States and Ethical Dilemmas
Surrounding the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA)" they unravel
the complication of prognosticating ethical perplexity. Much of the haziness comes in, when
deciding who should be entitled to what and why in varying scenarios. Cultural heritage–––from
Peru's national Urban Identity to the State's pseudo tradition identity––– influences the divergent
roles archeology plays among different demographics while making ownership associations. ...

The Influence of Japanese Migration in the Peru
When Japanese first emigrated to Peru, they were called "Nikkeijin" which means Japanese people.

Government Corruption In Mexico City
The Olympic games are a two weeklong tournament where the best athletes compete with solidarity
and fair play to develop humanism and respect among every nation. Host candidates are chosen by
the IOC (International Olympic Committee) according to specific demands and requirements.
Nevertheless, chosen cities are meant to promise their entire commitment and effort for investing in
infrastructure, public security, public health and tourism. Despite this optimism, the prevailing
concern is that the costs will increase for those living in the host nation, while the mayor benefits
will be for the IOC and all the multinational partners involved. For example, while Brazil spends
billions of dollars, the IOC is expected to earn billions too through sponsorship deals, owning TV
rights and many other income fees. While new stadiums and new luxury hotels are built, citizens

Machu Picchu : The New Seven Wonders Of The World
Machu Picchu the lost city of the Inca is situated on a mountain ridge 2,430 meter (7,970 ft) above
sea level and it is located in Peru. At present time we all around the world familiar with this name
because in 2007, Machu Picchu was voted one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in a
worldwide Internet poll. (Wikipedia, 2017)
Now lets us see why Machu Picchu is considered worldwide as the historical place and why
archaeologists around the world show their massive interest on it.
Well most modern archaeologists and historians agree that Machu Picchu was built by the Inca
Pachacutec, the greatest statesman of Tahuantinsuyo, who ruled from 1438 to 1471. Archaeologists
assume that the construction of the citadel would date from the fifteenth century approximately
chronological date given by the carbon–14 or radiocarbon. The construction of Machu Picchu began
when the Inca´s territory started to grow. (Peru for Less, 2017)
According to archaeologists, in this area was fought the last battle that defined victory over the
Chancas, covering prestigious victory and gave power to the Inca Pachacutec.Inca Pachacutec was
the first to emerge beyond the valley of Cusco after his epic victory over the Chancas. He conducted
the Tahuantinsuyo expansion and recognized it as the "constructor" of Cusco. This was one of his
greatest works.(Peru for Less, 2017)

Tourism Effects on Machu Picchu
High in the Andean mountain range, nestled on a ridge between two mountains high above the

near the head waters of the Amazon River and is on the ridge between two prominent mountain
peaks – Machu Picchu and Hauyna Picchu – about 500 meters above the valley bottom (Wright

There is also the impending problem that with the increase of tourism in Machu Picchu there will
also be an increase in the crowding and congestion on the roads, footpaths, and in the narrow streets
of the site. In addition, tourists also compete with residents for available services and facilities (a
prime example of this is the local train service in Peru, in which many backpackers tend to use the
local train service rather than the much more "luxurious" and expensive tourist train). An increase in
visitors to the area will also lead to an increase in the crime in the area. Finally, a big
social/community impact from tourism has been the desecration of burial sites and the removal and
display of human remains from Machu Picchu to further stimulate the tourist industry, which has
ultimately led to the destruction of the Indian spiritual heritage. (Barcelona Field Studies Centre
S.L., Machu Picchu: Impact of Tourism) Environmental Costs and Benefits The environmental costs
to increased tourism to Machu Picchu out number the benefits in many ways. Environmentally,
tourism does help to facilitate increased awareness of the need for conservation and preservation of
natural, cultural, and historical resources. Machu Picchu could also be considered a clean industry,

  • 3. Ecuador Culture defined is the customs, arts, social institutions, and achievements of a particular nation people, or other social group. The history of cultures across the globe expose mankind to insight and a better comprehension of why and how varying traditions and habits are formed. To illustrate this point, a look into the cultures of Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua. To begin, fringing the western coast of South America, Ecuador. Ecuador, albeit small, is entrenched in culture. Having over 15 million citizens, this mostly Spanish– speaking country, also is known for its native tongue Quichua, along with others. The capital of Ecuador is Quito and is most known for superior cuisine. Major products of Ecuador include, but not exclusive, petroleum, coffee, beans, bananas, and cocoa. Adorning the coast are the beautiful beaches of Guayas, Canoa, and Esmeraldas, while inland are many volcanoes, the most popular of which is Volcan Cotopaxi. To add, the Galapagos Islands, home to "enchanted archipelago of fearless creatures" (National Geographic). Just south of Ecuador sits a much larger Peru. With a population of over 30 million citizens, this mountainous, yet tropical coastal country remains entrenched in its Amerindian and Spanish culture. Peru boasts its ... • 5. Reflection Paper My life once consisted of waking up, school, homework, church and going to bed only to do it all once again. When I was six, I moved across the Atlantic from Nigeria, and away from a life that I was told to appreciate, and classify as pure happiness. My first community was one that consisted of people that looked exactly like me, who had the strength to move mountains. I was taught to appreciate my culture as I watched my grandmother carry the load from the market on top of her head for the thirty minute walk from the market without any complaints. My mom was a working woman, and still found the time to raise me and take care of her family, without ever really taking a moment for herself. The strength that I was surrounded by would motivate me to be the best version of myself, and to work harder, despite any obstacles in my way. In America, I began to my search for my personal definition of happiness and success. This would lead me on a tangled and bumpy journey in which I have finally been able to begin to unravel a small segment of. For a while I was pulled into the American Dream and the what–every–African– immigrant–parent–wants–for–their–children stereotype aiming to please my mom because, after all, every parent wants the best for their kids. In my journey to escape this cocoon and the newly discovered stereotypes about black Americans living in Harlem, I discovered a program that would allow me to venture into a new chapter of my life and begin to experience the happiness I once sought. A Better Chance (ABC), drove me to experience new cultures, a new way of living, and different forms of thinking after living a life spent sheltered from reality in order to protect my innocence. ABC is a nonprofit organization that helps academically gifted young minorities get into private day schools and boarding schools. Another extension of ABC is the community school program, of which I am a member. As I became an A Better Chance scholar, the transition from life in New York City to life in Guilford would be a difficult, yet empowering one. For the first few weeks of school, I felt like an outsider looking into a school that was predominantly Caucasian with many of the students in my school having already ... • 7. The Visual Economy Of Andean Childhood Poverty Summary Sinervo and Hill's article "The Visual Economy of Andean Childhood Poverty: Interpreting Postcards in Cusco, Peru" looks at the production, circulation and consumption of postcards in Cusco, Peru. While examining this article a few questions came to mind, 1– How are Andean children presented in the postcards Sinervo and Hill's examine in this article ? How does the framing of these postcards, through the use of text and visual imagery, influence our perception of the "poor Andean child"? Why do you think tourists are keen to purchase such images? 2– What are some common misconceptions tourists have about the child vendors discussed in this article? Have you ever had any personal interactions with child vendors? If so, what were the similarities and differences between your interactions and the ones discussed in the article. Has this article changed your perception of child vendors? 3– Do you believe the Andean children featured on these postcards are being exploited for the financial gain of those who sell and produce these postcards? How does the framing of these postcards, through the use of text and visual imagery, influence our perception of the "poor Andean child"? Why do you think tourists are keen to purchase such images? There is certainly a lot to unpack in Sinervo and Hill's article regarding the visual representation of Andean childhood poverty on postcards sold to tourists in Cusco, Peru. Throughout the article, postcard images of children with dirty faces, torn clothing and matted hair have come to represent childhood poverty in the Andes. These images, carefully constructed to elicit emotional responses by those who view them, present Andean children as unsupervised and unkempt, "abandoned" or "trapped" in their rural ... • 9. Historical Destruction Of Machu Picchu Many archaeological sites and artifacts around the globe have fell victims to cultural heritage destruction. Whether it be from weather and climate change, tourism, the taking of artifacts, or degradation over time. Cultural heritage destruction can be defined as the destruction or elimination of historic sites, artifacts, or materials. Some people, whether it be government, an organization, or individuals, work to protect and fund the preservation and maintenance of important historic archeological remains. While other unfortunate sites are demolished, ransacked, or looted due to lack of protection. Machu Picchu, located in the Andes mountains in Peru, is considered one of the seven wonders of the world, as well as an archeological marvel built by the Inca people. However, this historical site has come under protection due to cultural heritage destruction from tourists and environmental degradation. Over the years, Machu Picchu has begun to erode due to an enormous amount of tourism and climate changes. Luckily the Peruvian government has begun to take action to protect one of the world's most well preserved mysteries and architecturally advanced sites of early modern history. The Inca Empire lasted throughout the fifteenth and sixteenth century, and was based largely throughout South America. The Inca's called this spanse of land the Tahuantinsuyu, or "Land of the Four Quarters", since it stemmed out to the north, south, east, and west. In total, the empire could have ... • 11. Spanish Personal Statement I am pursuing a Spanish minor and believe that immersion is the best way to become fluent. Studying abroad in Peru would give me the opportunity to speak, write, think and dream in Spanish. While Spanish can be learned in many countries throughout the world, Peru offers an environment with a familiar dialect, accelerating my comfort with the language. I am planning on minoring in Spanish not only because I enjoy the language, but because it will differentiate me from other students. I have a rather large Spanish vocabulary and know the grammatical rules, but I need and environment that I will hear and speak it on a regular basis. Without immersing myself in the Spanish language, I will be unable to gain the speaking and listening skills I need to become fluent. Over winter break I had the amazing opportunity to spend a week in Lima, Peru, and although my visit was short, I fell in love with the country and its people. I stayed with a family there, and they included me in their daily lives and made me feel welcome. While this may not seem like an academic goal, I believe that much of what I learn will occur outside of the classroom. My rate of learning will grow exponentially while communicating with ... English proficiency is a graduation requirement at San Ignacio de Loyola University, and the local students must take 30% of their coursework in English. I believe that this environment will increase what I learn without interfering with my desire for immersion. Meanwhile, we expect growth to firm in Mexico as the US recovery strengthens. However, inflation expectations remain elevated on the back of a possible hike in the minimum wage. Notwithstanding the current spotlight on the drugs war, Mexico is expected to grow just below the average annual inflation rate on the back of higher private sector investment and increased government spending. Transfer risks and sovereign default risks are elevated in Argentina and Venezuela as foreign reserves slid by 20% and 8% respectively in 2015.Political tensions persist in Venezuela, as the scarcity of basic goods and services is acute despite drastic government controls. Additional intervention in the retail sector is likely to ensue. A gradual improvement in Peru and Chile (linked to expected improvements in the global economy) is also anticipated. The Chilean senate 's approval of a package of tax reform means firms face higher tax liabilities in the coming year. Peru will seek to forge stronger regional relations with neighboring countries; especially Brazil with which it already enjoys robust trade and investment ties. • 17. Peru Mission Trip We stayed in a hotel in Miraflores, a wealthy district of Lima. The main street, filled with bright lights and tall buildings, gave an impression that a city like London or New York would give, but only one street away the buildings consisted of unfinished four story hotels and parks filled with stray cats. Introduction After the signing of the Convention on Biological Diversity in the United Nations Congress on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, a number of development projects addressing the theme of biodiversity has considerably increased. Many of these projects have been channeled through the Global Environment Facility (GEF) or other international agencies. Also, many bilateral projects have seen light. In the aftermath of the signing of the Convention the Peruvian Government approached the Finnish Government in 1995 with a proposal of a technical assistance project to assess the biological diversity of Peruvian Amazonia and to assist Peru in developing a national strategy for conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity in that region – a requirement of the Convention. This request was a result of a long–term research engagement between Peru and Finland through institutional cooperation between Peruvian institutions and universities and the University of Turku in Finland. This cooperation had already produced valuable new insights to assessment of biodiversity in Peruvian Amazonia (Kalliola et al. 1993, Tuomisto et al. 1995, Ruokolainen et al. 1997, Kalliola & Flores 1998). The final benefit to the social aspect of Machu Picchu's community is that the tourism industry helps to facilitate the infrastructure and facilities that are used by tourism (e.g. the railway) and in doing so, it can prove to also benefit the residents as well (e.g. transportation maintenance and support). One of the social costs to the community because of tourism is that it may attract visitors whose lifestyles and ideas may conflict with the community's (which commonly happens throughout the world, a good example of this can be seen in the settling of North America, and the effect it had on the Native Americans). In the 15th century during the "Late Horizon" (Kleiner, p.1089) the Inca or Inka created an empire. In the following 16th century the Aztec people established their own empire. The religious beliefs of both cultures would be the foundation for every facet of life, including the massive architectural settlements they left behind. For the Inca in South America their religious beliefs were interconnected to agricultural, personal and political outcomes. • 62. Peru Mission Trip When I was 16 I went on a mission trip to Peru with my mother. I was extremely anxious while boarding the 7 hour plane ride to a continent I've never been to. I had barely any idea of what we were going to do or where in Peru we were going. We landed in Lima after a long 7 hours in the middle seat. We met the others who were attending this mission trip at the airport after we landed. We took a terrifying cab ride back to the housing. The roads were incredibly busy and unorganized. The housing was barely housing at all. The rooms were very tiny with very thin walls. Every room was separated by a deck and to walk to different parts of the building such as the bathroom, you had to walk outside. It was incredibly different from what I was used ... I felt like I was in a movie, I felt so incredibly sad that I couldn't do very much to help the people of this town. I started to panic that we were leaving these kids behind, in a little over a week I would get on a plane back to Chicago and these kids would still be living in terrible situations. Since leaving Peru this exact experience has been with me since. This is something I will never forget for as long as I lived. When we got back to Chicago my mother and I decided that we would donate to this kid to help pay for him to start a better life and to help pay for college when he eventually did go. I have always loved art far before I went on this mission trip, but this experience struck me so deep. I want to be an artist for everyone who may never have the opportunity to become one. I want to be an inspiration to keep on doing what you love and to never let bad experiences and situations get in the way of your passion. Pros And Cons Of Code Of Ethics Recognizing the Evaluative Standpoints For years archeologists and other specialists have stressed and continue to stress the need for a professional code of ethics for the treatment of human remains. Moral phenomenology along with the controversy that surrounds ownership rights have been the primary concerns for those interested in the creation of such code. Jien Kim and Dawnie W. Steadman tackle the challenge by laying out ground rules that must be followed to ensure the development of an equitable set of conduct guidelines. In their article, "A Review of Codes of Ethics in the United States and Ethical Dilemmas Surrounding the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA)" they unravel the complication of prognosticating ethical perplexity. Much of the haziness comes in, when deciding who should be entitled to what and why in varying scenarios. Government Corruption In Mexico City The Olympic games are a two weeklong tournament where the best athletes compete with solidarity and fair play to develop humanism and respect among every nation. Host candidates are chosen by the IOC (International Olympic Committee) according to specific demands and requirements. Nevertheless, chosen cities are meant to promise their entire commitment and effort for investing in infrastructure, public security, public health and tourism. Despite this optimism, the prevailing concern is that the costs will increase for those living in the host nation, while the mayor benefits will be for the IOC and all the multinational partners involved. For example, while Brazil spends billions of dollars, the IOC is expected to earn billions too through sponsorship deals, owning TV rights and many other income fees. Tourism Effects on Machu Picchu High in the Andean mountain range, nestled on a ridge between two mountains high above the valley floor below sits the amazing city and archaeological site of Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu is about 1400 kilometers south of the Equator on the eastern slope of the Peruvian Andes. The site lies near the head waters of the Amazon River and is on the ridge between two prominent mountain peaks – Machu Picchu and Hauyna Picchu – about 500 meters above the valley bottom (Wright and Kenneth, 2–3). There is also the impending problem that with the increase of tourism in Machu Picchu there will also be an increase in the crowding and congestion on the roads, footpaths, and in the narrow streets of the site. In addition, tourists also compete with residents for available services and facilities (a prime example of this is the local train service in Peru, in which many backpackers tend to use the local train service rather than the much more "luxurious" and expensive tourist train). An increase in visitors to the area will also lead to an increase in the crime in the area. Finally, a big social/community impact from tourism has been the desecration of burial sites and the removal and display of human remains from Machu Picchu to further stimulate the tourist industry, which has ultimately led to the destruction of the Indian spiritual heritage. (Barcelona Field Studies Centre S.L., Machu Picchu: Impact of Tourism) Environmental Costs and Benefits The environmental costs to increased tourism to Machu Picchu out number the benefits in many ways. Environmentally, tourism does help to facilitate increased awareness of the need for conservation and preservation of natural, cultural, and historical resources.
