According to Harvard College Writing Center in, "Overview of the Academic Essay," academic
writing includes four major point that will help improve it such as a motive and idea, a thesis and
development, the tension of an argument, and the structure of an argument. Your essay must have a
motive and you should be encouraged and inspired to come up with your own authentic ideas. Your
writing should not be boring summaries of readings or research, but much rather have a purpose, a
reason to understand the writing. When you become engaged with the material, you start

Divergent Argument Essay
As for Divergent, the society is divided into five factions which divides citizens through an aptitude
test: Abnegation the selfless one, Candor the honest, Dauntless the brave, and Erudite the intelligent.
When teenagers come to age, they are able to control their destiny by receiving options. Stay with
the faction the one they were born into or go to the one that matches their personality by the
aptitude test (Divergent). Trice takes her aptitude test and find out that she is a Divergent. Meaning
that she has an aptitude toward more than one faction. The society believes the Divergents are the
greatest threat, since they are unable to be controlled. Trice decides to leave the abnegation and
join the dauntless, the brave ones, even without knowing where she belongs. If she did not choose
one out of those five faction she would've been factionless. Meaning that if they do not fit in any of
the five factions or gets kicked out of the factions that society has created in the city of Chicago
(Divergent).
When it comes to family, a person would risk their lives to protect their family because of blood
unites them. In Anthem, family and love were never things in their society. Equality explains their
reproduction "Each spring, men older than twenty, and woman older than eighteen are sent to the

What is an argumentative passage analysis?
In a passage analysis, you take some piece of written prose which contains an argument and extract
the argument from it. In order to do this, you must identify the conclusion of the argument, as well as
any premises that support the conclusion, and structure them in such a way that the argument is
clearly valid (if indeed it is valid in the passage).
Here is an example of an argumentative passage:
Socrates is a man, and all men are mortal. As such, Socrates is mortal.
Properly analysed, this passage could be put into premise–conclusion form as follows:
Socrates is a man.
All men are mortal.

That was an easy example. Sometimes it's more difficult to tell which claim is the conclusion and
which are the premises. Consider:
But of course, this argument is terribly misguided. After all, by any reasonable definition of the
word "human," an unborn child of any age is as much a human as you or me. That is why abortion is
never permissible. The aforementioned argument is right to say that it is never permissible to kill
humans, but wrong to say that fetuses are not humans.
This passage is much more difficult to formalize. The first problem we encounter is that it's not clear
which sentence contains the thesis. We may be tempted to look towards the first and last sentences
for a clue, but it seems unlikely that either of these is the main point being argued by the author. At

Single Parent Struggle
For many years, children growing up in a single parent family have been viewed as different.
Being raised by only one parent seems impossible to many yet over the decades it has become
more prevalent. In today's society many children have grown up to become emotionally stable and
successful whether they had one or two parents to show them the rocky path that life bestows
upon all human beings. The problem lies in the difference of children raised by single parents
versus children raised by both a mother and a father. Does a child need both parents? Does a young
boy need a father figure around? Does the government provide help for single parents? What role do
step–parents and step–siblings play? With much speculation, this topic has become a very intriguing
argument. What people must understand is that properly raising a child does not rely on the
structure of a family but should be more focused on the process or values that are taught to these
children as they learn to mature. Children of single parents can be just as progressive with
emotional, social and behavioral skills as those with two parents.
People claim that the only way for children to gain full emotional and behavioral skills is to be
raised by both a mother and a father. When a topic such as this one has a broad amount of variables
it is impossible to simply link these problems to only having one parent. In the article, "Single–parent
families cause juvenile crime", author Robert L. Maginnis states, "Children from single–parent
families are more likely to have behavior

Before coming to this class, I already felt prepared to write academic assignments. I took higher
level english classes in highschool and I think that the class structure combined with the excellent

For this essay I chose to write about a program I had been involved with for a very long time, teen
court. I enjoyed writing this essay and was able to provide my own background information on the
topic. I especially liked the interviews I was able to include in the paper. These interviews gave me
the opportunity to connect the reader to someone who was actually involved in the process and a
leader of the organization. I feel that the interviews united the paper and provided first hand
experiences for better understanding, making it a strong argument. In contrast, my supporting
reasons argument, Essay #1, represents my weakest work this semester. In this essay I felt that I
followed too much of a structured format. This format is great for organization, but falls short in
effectively presenting information to the reader. The paper contained too many references to pure
research and data instead of offering a new interpretation of the data to the reader. Overall, the

As a student in a beginning English class some elements may seem difficult at the beginning but
with practice they become long lasting skills. Writing an argumentative is not an easy task there is a

Structure is in our lives all around us; we see it in work lives, our home lives, in our owe bodies,

Cultural Ethical Relativism is a theory that is used to explain differences among cultures, and thus
their moral codes. According to cultural relativists, different cultures have different moral codes, and
there is no objective truth in ethics. They believe there is no independent standard that can be used
