8. OBJECTIVES & Current State
• Goal implement EDMCS during COVID-19 – With Significant Budget Constraints
• Viasat Finance and Viasat IT were looking for consulting services to assist in the implementation of Oracle Enterprise Data
Management Cloud Services (EDMCS) for Viasat’s Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS), Hyperion Planning platforms and Workday. Viasat
found Alithya to partner with us in a very unique way, meaning Alithya worked through a bucket of hours engagement and Viasat
was able to fully control resource allocation. Key take away we highly recommend Alithya as a partner that will tailor the
engagement to suit the situation and current market conditions.
• In the current state Viasat has a very manual process for making changes to its metadata structures in Oracle, Workday, and
Hyperion.
• The process begins when a Financial Analyst completes a spreadsheet form and sends an email to FBS for a change to their
metadata structures which may include a new LE, Division, Cost Center, or Account.
• The request is reviewed by FBS/P&C to understand if further meetings are required to refine our understanding of the
change required. This can be as simple as adding a new cost center to an existing product line or could be part of a much
larger global expansion request. A larger request often involves synthesizing the needs of multiple groups requests into a
cohesive requirement.
• Once changes have been vetted the request goes through the applicable approval process
• Once approval is obtained a coordinated effort must be made to update the applicable systems like Oracle, Workday and
Hyperion. (and now Fin360)
• This process runs between days and months depending on the changes requested. Moving large amounts of people from one
cost center to another is often a reason for the process to drag on as all PO’s need to be changed before the cost center can
be closed.

10. CHALLENGES SOLUTIONS BENEFITS
CLOUD
Deployed in North America
Telecom
Re-imagining master data by partnering with Alithya to bring EDMCS to Viasat
• Highly manual process for metadata changes in
Oracle, Workday and Hyperion. Data governance
and complexity
• Extensive data governance workflows
• Change requests can take days to months to
complete
• Difficult to keep systems in sync
• New to cloud products, needed on-prem
integration/ adaptors
• EDMCS as Viasat’s metadata hub utilizing
built-in and custom integrations for
downstream applications:
• Hyperion Planning & Essbase (Out-the-box
adaptor)
• Oracle EBS – (Partial adaptor through patch)
• Workday (Full custom integration)
• Single easy to use tool for end users
• Created a change management engine for
administrators shortening change time for
change requests
• Overall enhanced experience for all Oracle
Hyperion and EBS users
• Improved validations and data enrichment
through workflows
• Helping to define a go-to-cloud strategy model
for Viasat
Oracle EDMCS delivered a single, easy-to-use tool to end-users as well
as created a change management engine for administrators.

15. KEY LEARNINGS
• Consider phased implementations instead of big-bang approach
• Leverage Oracle resources to help with learning curve and application build
• Product documentation, Cloud Customer Connect forum, Idea Lab
• Oracle was responsive to questions and issues as Viasat was utilizing EDM in a unique use case
• The EDM-to-EBS integration leverages same approach as DRM-to-EBS (staging tables and
concurrent program)
• Requires specific EBS patch-level and documentation was not always easy to follow
• Mindset change
• EPM On-Premise allows extensive customization; EPM Cloud does not and requires configuration and
adaptation
• EDM employs a very different philosophy and architecture than DRM; it can do what DRM does but
goes about it differently
• Evaluate third party integrations
• Example - Blackline Journals/ Recon integrated with Oracle EBS do not have same benefit when
considering Oracle's cloud
• KEY TAKEAWAY: These learnings are helping to shape our go-to-cloud strategy as we move to
migrating our existing on prem solutions (Hyperion Planning & Oracle EBS) to the cloud. EDM-
