Ever Wonder What Would Happen If…
● Changed the OrgByPeriod
option?
● Added a dimension?
● Changed an account’s Line
Item Detail option?
● Disabled Allow Adjs for an
entity?
● Changed the alias of a
custom dimension?

Changed the OrgByPeriod option?
● Organization By Period allows for changing entity
hierarchy relationships
● Purpose is to preserve the consolidated parent results
while allowing for varying methods per period
● Does not impact any other dimension
● Periodic consolidation is central to this
● Zero View settings for derived data must be Periodic
● [Active] account
● Ownership management

Enable Org By Period on Existing App
● Start with Comma4Dim
● App settings
● Default value for Active: “1”
● By default, all children are active
for all of their parents for all time
when they are added to the
application
● Org By Period Application:
Disabled
● Default consolidation rules
● Scenario settings
● Most common settings for

● Start with Ranzal under United
States

Consolidate All With Data
● … but wait!
● United States should reflect the amounts for periods
during which Ranzal was a child
● …and Europe should not consolidate January and
February

Ranzal Must Roll up to Both Parent Entities
● Metadata will show a superset of all
entity relationships
● How do I control this?

Ownership Management
● Select the parent entity in the point of view
● Rows show its children
● Set Ranzal Active = Yes for United States in January and
February
● Set Ranzal Active = No for United States in March
● And the reverse for Europe
● Value is balance recurring: it will stay Yes/No until it changes
● Does not carry from year to year

Information Can be Loaded
● System accounts are stored in the [None] value of
parent entities

Anatomy of Data File
● “Active” for United States does not appear
● since the App Settings default is Active
● “0” indicates “No (not active)”
● “1’ re-establishes the Active status

Back to that Consolidation
● Must “Consolidate All With Data” after ownership
changes
● HFM ignores the [Active] flag until you
enable OrgByPeriod in the App Settings

Enable Org By Period
● And Consolidate All With Data
● Getting closer
● I don’t like YTD results: Periodic got reversed out?

Zero View Settings
● Can I change this?
● Really wanted “Periodic”
● Not without rebuilding the
scenario – all data and
journals
● Refer to “What would

Zero emissions

● If I have an amount in February and then suppress a
zero for March, what does that mean?
● Implies the zero was March periodic activity
● Need to load Periodic
● Or else load zeroes
● Don’t fill the database with zeros!
Data Load Method
● Hmm. That changes the FDM
integrations
● And the journals.
● I really need to think this through…

If I Want Org By Period in the Future
● Configure the scenario like this:
● Configure the data integration
process to load Periodic
● No effect on the balance sheet –
only flows
● Then can enable the
OrgByPeriod app setting later if
needed
Most companies won’t like this
because we want to load Actuals YTD!
… to capture prior period adjustments…

Added a dimension?
● When we last saw our hero
in New Orleans, he showed
us how to add a dimension
to an HFM application
● But what would happen to:
● Calc Manager?
● Smart View?

Application currently has Custom1..4
● Dimensions migrated from
earlier release
● With no alias, they are:
● Dimension names if you had
an alias prior to 11.1.2.2
● Another topic entirely…

● Only Data Range matters
● All other objects are dimension independent
● Custom dimensions are hard coded
● These will break if you rename a custom
● Or migrate to an app with different customs

● I didn’t change any Functions
● POV manager added Myths dimensions
● Now in background POV for everyone
● Ad Hoc

Calc Manager?
● Existing rules don’t change
● I deployed again, no errors
● Extracted in classic mode, no changes
● What about functions that use the
full POV?
● GetCell, GetCellNoData,
GetCellRealData, SetDataWithPOV
All use [None] when not specified
● Hs.EXP applies equally to all
members of new dimension
● Add a new data range object
● Then the new dimension appears

Changed an account’s Line Item Detail option?
● Add two sample
accounts: Enabled
● Enable for scenario
too

Enter Line Items
● This is entered using the scenario’s Default View
● … ties in with the Org By Period discussion

Disable (and Enable) Line Item Detail
● Change Account settings
● Load in Replace mode
● Does not accept this change
● Skip integrity?
● … that worked
● Line items? Still there
● Summary aggregation? YEP
● I can overwrite these
Do NOT try

● Load back original metadata
● Still can’t do this without disabling Check Integrity
● Yes, line item detail is still there
● Though I overwrote some while it was switched
