Educational technology and social media tools can be used to enhance medical education. Social media allows for education, professional development, research, and health advocacy. Popular tools like Facebook and YouTube are commonly used for educational purposes by clinicians. Implementing social media requires considering theories of how it enhances learning, as well as practical issues like copyright, professionalism, privacy, and distraction. Social media is best seen as a tool to thoughtfully enhance education when there is a clear benefit, rather than as a replacement for traditional methods.
