2. VOYEURISM
Voyeurism is obviously used when Gwen is on the bed wearing a black crop
top, very short white shorts, and black heels. The camera focuses on Gwen
Stefani’s body and there are also close ups of her lips, whilst she is situated in
provocative poses on a bed.
3. ILLUSTRATIVE
The narrative of the video is that a woman, played by Gwen, is meeting up with her ex
boyfriend and his new girlfriend. This explains the lyrics exactly ‘were hanging out with your
new girlfriend’. In this video Gwen is the narrator, a performer and a character.
4. THE STAR
It is clear that Gwen Stefani is the star because there are loads of
close ups and extreme close ups on her- these are also called ‘money
shots’. She’s given the most screen time to show that she’s really
feeing the emotions of the song.
5. GENRE SPECIFIC ICONOGRAPHY
• Attractive people, dressed in expensive looking clothing
• Lavish settings- Gwen Stefani’s home
6. THOUGHT BEATS
The phrase ‘I know we’re cool’ is mouthed by Gwen Stefani whilst
she is on the bed every time it is sung in the song. This positions the
audience back with the star and gives the music video structure.
7. EDITING
The video has been edited so that the flashbacks have a subtle filter over
the top of the clips to make them seem more vintage and old. This filter
contrasts with the modern day scenes to emphasise the difference in time.
8. ADVERT
This music is an advert for Gwen Stefani because it makes her look
glamorous and sexy whilst promoting her brand image- big blonde
hair, big brown eyes and red lips.
