1. Headwall Photonics and Andor Technology Team
for Spectral Imaging Products
Headwall’s Raman Explorer™ and Raman Discovery™
utilized for demanding Raman imaging applications
Fitchburg, MA; June 8, 2007 – Headwall Photonics, a leading supplier of
high performance integrated spectrometer systems for spectral imaging and
chemical sensing solutions, announced an international teaming agreement with
Andor Technology in which Andor will distribute Headwall’s family of Raman
imaging spectrometers. Andor’s worldwide sales team and network of resellers
will market and sell Headwall’s Raman Explorer™ and Raman Discovery™
products to leading institutions around the world.
By partnering with Andor Technology, Headwall gains immediate access
to a range of international markets and application areas that require multi-
channel imaging performance. With significant expertise in providing a wide
range of spectral imaging solutions to both the research and OEM markets, this
collaboration will enable performance leading capabilities for the most
demanding Raman and hyperspectral applications.
The Raman Explorer™ and the hand-held Raman Discovery™ family of
multi-channel, multi-spectrum spectrometers are based on Headwall’s patented,
aberration-corrected, retro-reflective concentric configuration – an innovative,
high reciprocal dispersion design is optimized for high signal throughput of
weak Raman spectra and reduced measurement integration time. The multi-
input design supports the ability to place multiple spectral ranges or an extended
wavelength range onto a single Andor CCD or EM CCD detector with superior
resolution, photometric accuracy, and spectral bandwidth.
Jay Zakrewski, Director of Business Development at Headwall Photonics,
states “We are extremely excited to be working with the Andor team, a leader in
the development of leading edge CCDs. Headwall’s Raman products offer
unique advantages and provide differentiated performance in applications
where high signal throughput, high dynamic range, and spectral and spatial
resolution are critical performance drivers … .”
“In working with Headwall, Andor was looking for a performance edge to
deliver Raman imaging performance for a broader range of applications” states
2. Chris Calling, Andor’s North American President. “The Headwall relationship
provides Andor and our customers with access to innovative spectrometer
designs which, when coupled with Andor cameras, takes advantage of the very
latest capacilities in CCD technology.”
The Raman Explorer™ is available in three different spectral
configurations: Raman Explorer 785™ for 785nm laser excitation, Raman
Explorer 532™ for 532nm laser excitation, and Raman Explorer 532/658™ for
dual laser excitation. The Raman Discovery™ is designed for protable and hand-
held Raman applications and is available for either a 532nm or 785nm laser
excitation.
About Headwall Photonics
Headwall Photonics is a leading designer and manufacturer of imaging
spectrometers for industrial, commercial, and government markets. Headwall’s
high performance spectrometers, spectral engines, and “all original” holographic
diffraction gratings have been selected by OEM and end-user customers around
the world for use in critical application environments. As a pioneer in the
development of innovative spectrographs and imaging spectrometers based on
optical technologies, Headwall enjoys a market leadership position through the
design and manufacture of patented spectral instrumentation that is customized
for application-specific performance. Headwall Photonics was formed in 2003 as
the result of a management buy-out from Agilent Technologies.
About Andor Technology PLC
Andor Technology PLC is a Belfast‐based firm which operate at the high value
end of the global digital camera market. It was setup in 1989 out of Queenʹs
University Belfast. Andor now employees close to 200 people and distributes its
products to customers in over 40 countries worldwide. Andor develops and
manufactures a range of high performance digital cameras and their associated
products used for the measurement of light. Today, Andor has a portfolio of over
70 products which are employed in fields as diverse as drug discovery,
toxicology analysis, medical diagnosis, food quality testing and defense. Thanks
to new techniques developed by Andor scientists, Andor cameras can measure
light down to just one photon and can also measure light occurring in very short
time resolutions ‐ within 1 billionth of a second.
