Idea 1
My first idea is to design a logo that incorporates different elements of the existing logos that I
have shown in the first slide. For example, I like the use of bright colours to make it stand out or
using textured images like wood, so that it has something to do with the business.
My main idea is using a modern colour scheme like yellow and grey rather than traditional
black and white colour scheme. I would also want to use interesting shapes and/or designs like
some of the existing logos have done. This is because I feel it will stand out more than the
generic house or tools that are usually used for a building company.
I would either want to use geometric shapes as the main part of the logo, similar to the middle
two existing logos, or create a logo within a circle. I feel that this is a clean and aesthetically
pleasing design for a logo and also easy to place for both electronic or written means.
Evaluation of idea
I like that I have a clear understanding of the type of logo that I want to create
and that it matches the clients need of it ‘corresponding with both written
and electronic’ means.
I feel like I am capable of creating and delivering this logo as I have a clear
idea of what I want it to look like and therefore it will make it easier an less
time consuming when it comes to creating it. This means I will be able to
create this on time. By creating the logo first, it will give me the ground work
for the colour scheme that I will use for the rest of the project.
I have the resources available to create this logo, I have access to Photoshop
at college and home, I have access to any of the businesses images that I
would need and access to a camera if I needed to take anymore images.
Idea 2
My second idea is creating a website that follows the colour scheme that will be determined by
the logo colour. I have found some existing building company websites which I like elements of,
when designing this companies website, I will use some of these to create it.
I like the generic use of the logo in the top left corner and the contact details clear and one of
the first things that you see, I like the wooden panel photo on the strip across the top and the
photo slider. The photo slider will make it easier to show the photos from the portfolio which
will help potential clients view the kind of thins that are achievable etc.
Evaluation of idea
I like that it will make the company look more professional and make it easier
to view the images from the portfolio. It matches what the client wants as
they just wanted a website, I have thought about what the clients of the
company would want and this will also be what the company would want.
I am capable of delivering the design of a website and maybe the set up of
one if it was on a website maker like ‘Wix’. It is achievable to complete this
task in the time I have as, I have the recourses available and have a clear idea
of how I would want the website to look so this will help me with time
management when creating it.
Idea 3
For this idea I will create a business card that uses the logo I will design and the colour scheme
that goes with it. The existing examples of business cards I have use elements of the trade, for
example, a tape measure or blue prints or tools. This is aesthetically pleasing when done in a
way that doesn’t make it look tacky.
For the business card I want to create, I will use the colour scheme and the logo in the middle
with blank space around it and I may use the tape measure along the top if it looks right. On
the back there will be all of the key information and the ‘FMB’ membership symbol as this is
important.
Evaluation of idea
I like that is have a clear view as to what I want the business card to look like
and that it will match what the client wants with the logo and the colour
scheme to match.
This was an extra task set by the company as the first two tasks are the main
project, however I feel that if I follow a tight schedule, it will be completely
achievable in order to create this business card in time.
I have all of the resources needed to do this task, I have access to Photoshop
at college and home, I have access to any of the businesses images that I
would need and access to a camera if I needed to take anymore images.
Idea 4
For this task, the company have asked me to look at creating an online presence. For an idea of
what other builders do on social media, I looked at twitter. This wouldn’t be the right choice of
social media for this company as it is a small local business, the examples I have shown were
from large businesses they will reach a lot more people and probably have more to say.
As this is an extra task it isn’t top priority however, I feel that facebook and/or instagram would
be a better choice for this company. This is because facebook is easier to target people in your
local area and instagram is just another way of showing off your work. I will focus on making an
instagram account for them and facebook if I have time.
Evaluation of idea
I like that the company will be on social media and probably being able to
reach a younger audience that may not have heard about the company until
they were on social media. This is because the company rely on word of
mouth as their source of getting customers which has been very effective
however it wouldn’t harm to have another way in which people can hear
about them. This is also what the client wants as they have asked for a ‘social
media presence’.
I am capable of delivering this and on time, however it isn’t a top priority as it
is an extra task but as long as I stick to a schedule I should be able to do it.
I have the resources needed to achieve this task, I have access to any of the
businesses images that I would need and access to a camera if I needed to
take anymore images and a computer and the internet in order to upload
everything.

Idea 3
Developed Idea 4
This is a basic example of what I am thinking the colour scheme will look like. This
is a business card that I made that isn’t exactly what I am going for gives a basic
understanding.
Assessment of final ideas
These final ideas are appropriate for the audience as they use colours that
appeal to the target age group, it looks modern and also clear. This will also
appeal to the audience.
It suits the clients as these proposed ideas fit the guidelines given to me. I feel
that they would be happy with any of these ideas as they are all suitable for the
brief.
I have roughly 3 weeks of production time, this will be plenty of time complete the
project as long as I stick to the schedule that I will create to help me achieve this.
There aren’t really any costs in order to create this project, I have access to
photoshop and a camera, so if I needed to take any other photos than the ones
already existing, I can. The only costs are travelling around, if I needed to take
any other photos.
I don’t need anyone to feature in my work and I don’t need any assistance, so there will
be no personnel for this project.
Assessment of final ideas
Legal and ethical issues:
I will have to make sure that my work is original to avoid any copyright laws, this is
especially relevant now that the client may actually use my work so more people will see
it.
I would also have to make my work match the ASA codes of practice, the first three in
particular- compliance, recognition of advertising and misleading advertising.
“Advertisements must be obviously distinguishable from editorial content”
“The audience should quickly recognise the message as an advertisement.”
“The audience should quickly recognise the message as an advertisement.”
Research
The Competition:
The two companies shown above are the companies that are most similar to Walker
Renovations in the same area, this makes these companies their biggest competition.
They have an advantage in marketing over Walker Renovations in that they actually
have websites and social media, this is something that Walker Renovations don’t have.
By creating a website and social media, it will mean that more people will come across
the business and this gives an assurance that people will hear about them rather than
just relying on word of mouth.
The competitions marketing is low quality but still gets the message across about
them. The fonts, colours and layouts used are of a very basic quality and look old
fashioned.
The Audience
The audience/customer for my clients is most likely to be older people of the
middle class. This is because these people are more likely to be home owners wen
they are older compared to a younger audience.
Also, when the audience is older, it means that they are more likely to have saved
enough money in order to renovate their homes over their lives. The customers will
most likely be in the group c1 and above. This is because they are more likely to
have the money needed to build new houses/renovate old ones.
Treatment
I will do this by following a new colour scheme that I have researched, the current colour that you use,
blue, is a popular colour for businesses as it means reliability and money. The colour scheme I will use is
grey and yellow, this is because these colours have meaning but also the contrast of the colours make it
stand out in an appealing way. Grey means dependable and practical and yellow inspires original
thought but also means its methodical. These are all qualities that are good for your companies image.
By using a font with different weights it that it will all work when placed together but will give variety. So
this means it can be used in your logo and also be used in anything you write, this is so it will all match
throughout.
I will create a small emblem to go with the words ‘Walker Renovations Ltd’, this will mean that its
recognizable even without the words and therefore transferable to use as a logo on its own as well as
with the text.
I will create a website design, that will be implemented at your approval. I will design a website that will
show your portfolio in an electronic form rather than the actual book you have, this will mean that
people will be able to see examples of previous work and also be able to contact you. This will also have
links to your social media, which I will also create in order to show your current and previous work and
your availability.
Overall, everything I will create will fit the brief given to me, suit the audience you wish to attract/keep
and will also look more modern and more professional than the current competition.
Treatment (visual elements)
Monday Tuesday Thursday
Week 1 Create the logo and
start designing the
business card.
Finish the business card,
see how the logo looks
on a letterhead.
Start designing the website
(what will be on it, images
that I will use, how it will
look)
Week 2 Decide on the design
of the website and
start to put things
together.
Move from a mock
website page on
Photoshop to a website
builder.
Choose the images for the
online portfolio.
Week 3 Finish creating the
website
Look at setting up social
media. Create the
accounts but don’t
launch it.
Re-look over everything
and see if anything needs
changing/improving.
Resources:
. Google- to search for competitors, existing logos and ideas etc.
. Photoshop- to design all of the items that the company want
me to make.
. Photographs- these came from the companies existing
portfolio.
. Camera- to take other photos that I may need.

The photo slider will make it easier to show the photos from the portfolio which will help potential clients view the kind of thins that are achievable etc.
  • 9. Evaluation of idea I like that it will make the company look more professional and make it easier to view the images from the portfolio. It matches what the client wants as they just wanted a website, I have thought about what the clients of the company would want and this will also be what the company would want. I am capable of delivering the design of a website and maybe the set up of one if it was on a website maker like ‘Wix’. It is achievable to complete this task in the time I have as, I have the recourses available and have a clear idea of how I would want the website to look so this will help me with time management when creating it.
  • 10. Idea 3 For this idea I will create a business card that uses the logo I will design and the colour scheme that goes with it. The existing examples of business cards I have use elements of the trade, for example, a tape measure or blue prints or tools. This is aesthetically pleasing when done in a way that doesn’t make it look tacky. For the business card I want to create, I will use the colour scheme and the logo in the middle with blank space around it and I may use the tape measure along the top if it looks right. On the back there will be all of the key information and the ‘FMB’ membership symbol as this is important.
  • 11. Evaluation of idea I like that is have a clear view as to what I want the business card to look like and that it will match what the client wants with the logo and the colour scheme to match. This was an extra task set by the company as the first two tasks are the main project, however I feel that if I follow a tight schedule, it will be completely achievable in order to create this business card in time. I have all of the resources needed to do this task, I have access to Photoshop at college and home, I have access to any of the businesses images that I would need and access to a camera if I needed to take anymore images.
  • 12. Idea 4 For this task, the company have asked me to look at creating an online presence. For an idea of what other builders do on social media, I looked at twitter. This wouldn’t be the right choice of social media for this company as it is a small local business, the examples I have shown were from large businesses they will reach a lot more people and probably have more to say. As this is an extra task it isn’t top priority however, I feel that facebook and/or instagram would be a better choice for this company. This is because facebook is easier to target people in your local area and instagram is just another way of showing off your work. I will focus on making an instagram account for them and facebook if I have time.
  • 13. Evaluation of idea I like that the company will be on social media and probably being able to reach a younger audience that may not have heard about the company until they were on social media. This is because the company rely on word of mouth as their source of getting customers which has been very effective however it wouldn’t harm to have another way in which people can hear about them. This is also what the client wants as they have asked for a ‘social media presence’. I am capable of delivering this and on time, however it isn’t a top priority as it is an extra task but as long as I stick to a schedule I should be able to do it. I have the resources needed to achieve this task, I have access to any of the businesses images that I would need and access to a camera if I needed to take anymore images and a computer and the internet in order to upload everything.
  • 17. Developed Idea 4 This is a basic example of what I am thinking the colour scheme will look like. This is a business card that I made that isn’t exactly what I am going for gives a basic understanding.
  • 18. Assessment of final ideas These final ideas are appropriate for the audience as they use colours that appeal to the target age group, it looks modern and also clear. This will also appeal to the audience. It suits the clients as these proposed ideas fit the guidelines given to me. I feel that they would be happy with any of these ideas as they are all suitable for the brief. I have roughly 3 weeks of production time, this will be plenty of time complete the project as long as I stick to the schedule that I will create to help me achieve this. There aren’t really any costs in order to create this project, I have access to photoshop and a camera, so if I needed to take any other photos than the ones already existing, I can. The only costs are travelling around, if I needed to take any other photos. I don’t need anyone to feature in my work and I don’t need any assistance, so there will be no personnel for this project.
  • 19. Assessment of final ideas Legal and ethical issues: I will have to make sure that my work is original to avoid any copyright laws, this is especially relevant now that the client may actually use my work so more people will see it. I would also have to make my work match the ASA codes of practice, the first three in particular- compliance, recognition of advertising and misleading advertising. “Advertisements must be obviously distinguishable from editorial content” “The audience should quickly recognise the message as an advertisement.” “The audience should quickly recognise the message as an advertisement.”
  • 21. The Competition: The two companies shown above are the companies that are most similar to Walker Renovations in the same area, this makes these companies their biggest competition. They have an advantage in marketing over Walker Renovations in that they actually have websites and social media, this is something that Walker Renovations don’t have. By creating a website and social media, it will mean that more people will come across the business and this gives an assurance that people will hear about them rather than just relying on word of mouth. The competitions marketing is low quality but still gets the message across about them. The fonts, colours and layouts used are of a very basic quality and look old fashioned.

  • 23. The Audience The audience/customer for my clients is most likely to be older people of the middle class. This is because these people are more likely to be home owners wen they are older compared to a younger audience. Also, when the audience is older, it means that they are more likely to have saved enough money in order to renovate their homes over their lives. The customers will most likely be in the group c1 and above. This is because they are more likely to have the money needed to build new houses/renovate old ones.
  • 24. Treatment I will do this by following a new colour scheme that I have researched, the current colour that you use, blue, is a popular colour for businesses as it means reliability and money. The colour scheme I will use is grey and yellow, this is because these colours have meaning but also the contrast of the colours make it stand out in an appealing way. Grey means dependable and practical and yellow inspires original thought but also means its methodical. These are all qualities that are good for your companies image. By using a font with different weights it that it will all work when placed together but will give variety. So this means it can be used in your logo and also be used in anything you write, this is so it will all match throughout. I will create a small emblem to go with the words ‘Walker Renovations Ltd’, this will mean that its recognizable even without the words and therefore transferable to use as a logo on its own as well as with the text. I will create a website design, that will be implemented at your approval. I will design a website that will show your portfolio in an electronic form rather than the actual book you have, this will mean that people will be able to see examples of previous work and also be able to contact you. This will also have links to your social media, which I will also create in order to show your current and previous work and your availability. Overall, everything I will create will fit the brief given to me, suit the audience you wish to attract/keep and will also look more modern and more professional than the current competition.
  • 26. Monday Tuesday Thursday Week 1 Create the logo and start designing the business card. Finish the business card, see how the logo looks on a letterhead. Start designing the website (what will be on it, images that I will use, how it will look) Week 2 Decide on the design of the website and start to put things together. Move from a mock website page on Photoshop to a website builder. Choose the images for the online portfolio. Week 3 Finish creating the website Look at setting up social media. Create the accounts but don’t launch it. Re-look over everything and see if anything needs changing/improving.
  • 27. Resources: . Google- to search for competitors, existing logos and ideas etc. . Photoshop- to design all of the items that the company want me to make. . Photographs- these came from the companies existing portfolio. . Camera- to take other photos that I may need.
