during the revolutionary War and is a peaceful rural community                                                                                                                                 founders that formed the first settlement in rhode Island during the 1600’s
committed to preserving its historical and natural resources. This                                                                                                                             as a farming community. The local architectural style evolved over time to
Greek revival style farmhouse incorporates several classical elements                                                                                                                          suit the stormy weather of the New england coasts. The local cape style
including pediments, profiles, fanlight, pentice as well as a center hall                                                                                                                      homes typically incorporated symmetrical design with a steep-pitched
chimney, covered porch and summer kitchen layout.                                                                                                                                              roof, porches, dormers, multi-paned windows, wide clapboard siding and
                                                                                                                                                                                               wooden shutters that offered protection against the elements.
