Smart Office Building
US20150230167 (Method and System for Providing Service Based on Space; KAIST)
Abstract: A method and system for providing a service based on space are disclosed herein. The method includes
registering multiple smart access points respectively included in multiple spaces--each of the access points are
connected to at least one Internet of Things (IoT) device that is further included in the corresponding space,
providing first service control information to a first smart access point, in accordance with a request of the first
smart access point, the first smart access point being accessed by a terminal of a user, among multiple access points,
and providing second service control information to a second smart access point in accordance with a request of the
second smart access point, when the terminal of the user accesses the second smart access point, among the
multiple access points, and when the second smart access point recognizes a movement of the user.

An exemplary service/application scenario:
User A being identified by an e-mail address of `aaa@abc.com` and User B being identified by an e-mail address
of `bbb@def.re.kr` wish to have a meeting in a conference room of Building C on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. User A
3
©2015 TechIPm, LLC All Rights Reserved http://www.techipm.com/
may invite User B (by using the identifier `bbb@def.re.kr` of User B) and may reserve Conference Room A313 of
Building C through a Calendar service by using the smart phone of User A. Here, Conference Room A313 of
building C may be identified by an e-mail address of `CA313@thingsgate.com`, which corresponds to space
matching identifier of the respective conference room. And, by inviting the e-mail address
`CA313@thingsgate.com` through the Calendar service, Conference Room A313 may be reserved by User A. At
this point, management of IoT devices that are included in the space of Conference Room A313 and management
of the related services may be carried out by a smart access point belonging to Conference Room A313. In order to
allow users to easily use Conference Room A313 in a cooperative environment, such smart access point may be
assigned with the above-described e-mail address of `CA313@thingsgate.com`.
As User B arrives in front of Building C, as soon as a Wi-Fi signal of Building C is received by the smart phone of
User B, a welcoming message of an access information service (or connection information service) of Building C
may be exposed to (or displayed on) the smart phone of User B. If User B responds to such welcoming message,
reservation information that has been prearranged through the Calendar service may be notified to the smart phone
of User B.
User B may then move on to Conference Room A313 by being provided with a Wi-Fi signal based location
guidance through the smart phone of User B. And, while User B is moving to Conference Room A313, automatic
authentication of all doors located along the path may be realized, thereby allowing User B to pass through all
4
©2015 TechIPm, LLC All Rights Reserved http://www.techipm.com/
doors in order to reach Conference Room A313 without any separate ID tag. Smart access points of each individual
space may be connected to one another through a smart access point service platform. Accordingly, once User B is
authenticated at the entrance of Building C, the corresponding authentication information is shared by all smart
access points through the smart access point service platform, thereby reducing the complexity in sequential
authentication procedures of the smart access points, which are connected to one another along the movement path
of User B. Furthermore, in providing services to User B, service information between the smart access points being
sequentially accessed by the smart phone of User B may be shared through the smart access point service platform.
When User B enters Conference Room B, lights and lamps installed in the conference room may be automatically
turned on, and operation of a ventilation system may be initiated. Thereafter, when User A enters Conference
Room A313, a projector may be turned on, blinders of the conference room windows may be shut, and the lights
may be turned off. In addition to such automatic services of the IoT devices, the users may be capable of
controlling the specific space by using IoT applications existing within the smart access points of the
corresponding space.

Smart Utility Meter
US20150229654 (SECURED TRANSACTIONS IN INTERNET OF THINGS EMBEDDED SYSTEMS
NETWORKS; STMicroelectronics)
Abstract: A secure network enabled device has a distinct security module and lacks a human user input interface.
The security module is formed in an integrated circuit. The security module is initialized. Data is electronically
communicated to and from the secure network enabled device via at least one transceiver. The security module is
configured to test the integrity of a subset of the data communicated to the secure network enabled device, and the
security module is configured to test the integrity of a transaction protocol, which governs the stream of data bits of
the data communicated to the secure network enabled device.
An exemplary service/application scenario:
A public utility department controls water distribution lines to individual homes and businesses. The department
measures one or both of the amount of water flowing into the home or business. Based on the measured flow, the
owner of the home or business receives an invoice from the public utility department. A smart utility meter
communicates service usage data back to a computing server of the public utility department. The computing
server receives the service usage data and identifies the smart utility meter that sent the data. The computing server
correlates the identity of the smart utility meter with a service address, and the computing server automatically
6

generates the invoice that is sent to the service address. In some cases, the computing server is able to send control
commands back to one or more smart utility meters. The control commands may, for example, limit the amount of
services that are provided to the address via controls of particular valves, switches, or other devices.
The smart meter includes an integrated circuit to carry out various functional tasks of the meter.
7

In the smart meter, a bidirectional transceiver provides the only communication link to pass electronic data to and
from the meter. Accordingly, the smart meter is lacking a human user input interface. The smart meter also
includes a state machine configured to direct security operations on electronic data passed to and from the smart
meter. The smart meter implementing the secure network enabled device is in an idle state waiting for instructions.
The secure network enabled device implements a non-limiting asymmetrical cryptographic model for security. The
secure network enabled device has an IoT security module configured to manage public and private keys so that
data may be encrypted and decrypted according to an RSA algorithm. The public and private keys are stored in a
non-volatile memory, some or all of which may be a one-time programmable (OTP) memory.
At some point, the secure network enabled device is reset and moves to a reset authentication and initialization
state. The secure network enabled device is able to access certain secure information in memory, which is not
accessible by the processing unit or any other circuits of the smart meter. During reset, the validity of public and
private keys, identifiers, network addresses, and other data may be validated. The validation may include a
decryption of data stored in memory, a comparison of redundant data stored in a second area of memory, and other
validation acts.
In some cases, the IoT security module acts as a firewall for the smart meter. That is, the IoT security module
monitors all traffic that travels to and from the smart meter, and the IoT security module identifies and prevents
8
©2015 TechIPm, LLC All Rights Reserved http://www.techipm.com/
unknown and unexpected entities from communicating with the smart meter. The firewall functionality may be
initialized after the processing unit passes a particular initialization command via the communication interface.
Alternatively, or in addition, the firewall and other initialization may commence after a known entity, for example
a computing server of the utility company, sends a command that is received via the one or more transceivers.

Smart Home/Building Temperature Control
US20150222490 (SEMANTIC DATA BROKER FOR DYNAMIC ASSOCIATION BETWEEN DEVICES AND
APPLICATIONS; Cisco)
Abstract: In one embodiment, a broker device receives device-identifying data to identify a device in a computer
network. An ontology associated with the device-identifying data is then identified by the broker device and in
response to identifying the ontology, interpretation instructions related to the identified ontology are determined.
The broker device receives data from the identified device and interprets the received data based on the
interpretation instructions.
An exemplary service/application scenario:
10

The device broker may be placed within a network where it would receive temperature-related data from a plurality
of temperature sensors. A first temperature sensor may be associated with a conference room within a building and
may be configured to measure the temperature of the conference room. The first temperature sensor may connect to
the broker device by, for example, a constrained application protocol (CoAP) service, and provides identifying
information of the sensor, which may include additional information such as location (e.g., sensor in the conference
room). The broker device may then connect to a server to load the device ontology associated with the first
11
©2015 TechIPm, LLC All Rights Reserved http://www.techipm.com/
temperature sensor. The device ontology provides the broker device with instructions on how to interpret the
temperature measurements from the first temperature sensor. As an example, the interpretation instructions related
to the device ontology may instruct that each instance of a temperature reading from the first temperature sensor
should be interpreted as T=R*0.932, where R is the reading value measured by the sensor and T is the temperature
in degrees Fahrenheit.
A second temperature sensor, from a different manufacturer than the first temperature sensor, may have a different
representation of temperature data. For example, the device ontology associated with the second temperature
sensor may include instructions for the broker device to interpret each temperature reading as T=R/3+34.
Accordingly, based on each device ontology, the broker device is provided with information on how to interpret
different representations of data from various devices and provide an application with standardized format data.
Furthermore, applications may demand more than merely a temperature reading. For example, an application may
demand from a device, a temperature measurement taken at a specific time of day. Accordingly, when the broker
device receives a temperature measurement from a temperature sensor, the broker device may tag the measurement
with a timestamp. In other words, the broker device may create various categories for measurements taken by the
same temperature sensor.

Smart Transportation
US20150205991 (INTERNET-OF-THINGS SYSTEM FOR PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION SERVICE AND
METHOD OF OPERATING SAME; ETRI)
Abstract: An Internet-of-Things (IoT) system for public transportation service and a method of operating the same
are disclosed. The IoT system includes on-vehicle devices, a management server, a plurality of bus stop access
points (APs), and a wired/wireless bus stop access point (AP) communication network. The on-vehicle devices are
mounted within a bus, i.e., a public transportation means. The management server is connected to the bus over an
Internet, i.e., a wireless communication means. The plurality of bus stop APs are short distance communication
APs, and are each provided in each bus stop at which the bus stops and configured to enable information to be
exchanged between the bus stop and the bus. The wired/wireless bus stop AP communication network connects the
plurality of bus stop APs. The management server performs Internet access processing to connect the bus stop AP
communication network and an external terminal.
An exemplary service/application scenario:

The IoT system for public transportation service includes a bus and a management server connected to the bus over
the Internet, The IoT system further includes a plurality of bus stop access points (APs) configured to enable
information to be exchanged between the bus and bus stops at which the bus stops. The plurality of the bus stop
APs is connected to the management server over a wired/wireless bus stop access point (AP) communication
network. Accordingly, the management server processes access to the Internet along with the bus stop AP

communication network. Furthermore, an external terminal may be connected to the management server over the
Internet. A passenger of the bus receives public transportation service via a corresponding passenger terminal
during a period from the time at which the user gets on the bus to the time at which the user gets off the bus.
The bus is equipped with a bus stop AP communication unit configured to communicate with the bus stop APs that
enable bus stops and the bus to exchange information. Furthermore, the bus is further equipped with an entrance
tag reader and an exit tag reader configured to read a tag contained in each passenger terminal. The entrance tag
reader reads tag information from a corresponding passenger terminal when each passenger gets on the bus. The
exit tag reader reads tag information from a corresponding passenger terminal when each passenger gets off the bus.
Accordingly, information about one or more passengers on the bus may be checked via the entrance tag reader and
the exit tag reader.
The bus stop AP communication unit, the entrance tag reader, and the exit tag reader are connected to an on-
vehicle AP. The on-vehicle AP performs wireless packet communication with the management server over the
Internet, and collects and manages tag information that has been read by the entrance tag reader and the exit tag
reader from the passenger terminal. Furthermore, the on-vehicle AP has a small base station function of forming a
network along with one or more passenger terminals on the bus and also controlling packet communication with
the management server.
15

When each passenger gets on the bus, the entrance tag reader reads tag information from a corresponding
passenger terminal, and then transfers the read tag information to the on-vehicle AP. The entrance tag reader can
perform bi-directional communication, and may transfer information, provided by the on-vehicle AP, to the
passenger terminals. When each passenger gets off the bus, the exit tag reader reads tag information from a
corresponding passenger terminal, and then transfers the read tag information to the on-vehicle AP. Accordingly,
the on-vehicle AP may form a network with respect to only one or more passengers on the bus using the tag
information of the passengers who have not got off the bus after getting on the bus by referring to the tag
information read by the entrance tag reader and the exit tag reader. Furthermore, the on-vehicle AP may provide an
Internet service and/or a specific information service to the passenger terminals of the passengers on the bus via the
management server.
The management server includes a central control unit and a communication interface configured to connect the
management server to both the bus stop AP communication network for connecting the bus stop APs and the
Internet for connecting the external terminal and on-vehicle APs provided in respective vehicles. Furthermore, a
bus database (DB) for receiving information about buses from the respective on-vehicle APs and storing the
received information, and a passenger DB for storing passenger information including tag information provided by
the passenger terminals 300 of one or more passengers on each bus are connected to the control unit.

When each passenger gets on a bus, the entrance tag reader reads tag information from a corresponding passenger
terminal, and then transfers the read tag information to the on-vehicle AP. The entrance tag reader can perform bi-
directional communication, and may transfer information, provided by the on-vehicle AP, to the passenger terminal
300. When each passenger gets off a bus, the exit tag reader reads tag information from a corresponding passenger
terminal, and then transfers the read tag information to the on-vehicle AP. Accordingly, the on-vehicle AP may
form a network along with the passenger terminals of one or more passengers on the bus by referring to the tag
information read by the entrance tag reader and the exit tag reader, and may connect to the management server over
the Internet. Furthermore, the management server may provide a specific service (e.g., bus stop or line guidance,
transportation information, an advertisement service, or a multimedia data service) to the passenger terminals of
the passengers on the bus.

US20140244017 (DETERMINING ITEMS TO BUILD BASED ON AN INTERNET OF THINGS (IOT)
NETWORK INVENTORY AND BUILDING THE DETERMINED ITEMS USING A 3D PRINTER; Qualcomm)
Abstract: The disclosure generally relates to determining items to build based on inventory in an Internet of Things
(IoT) network and using a 3D printer to build the determined items. In particular, inventory in the IoT network may
be monitored to predict replacement needs associated with certain items in the IoT network inventory and
determine further inventory needs (e.g., based on items that malfunction or break, upcoming calendar events, etc.).
In one embodiment, in response to determining that additional inventory items may be needed in the IoT network,
licenses and 3D printer blueprints to build the items may be obtained (internally and/or externally) and 3D printing
may be scheduled to build the items (e.g., based on a priority scheme, timing criteria, resource availability, etc.),
whereby the items may be added to the IoT network inventory when the 3D printer completes 3D print jobs to
produce the items.

The supervisor device may be used to observe, monitor, control, or otherwise manage the communications systems
and thereby determine an inventory that exists within the IoT network. Furthermore, the supervisor device may

communicate with various other components in the systems to determine what inventory needs may exist, identify
an appropriate source to obtain 3D printer blueprints or other suitable information to create or replicate the needed
inventory, and obtain appropriate rights (e.g., a license) to create or replicate the needed inventory.
In response to suitably obtaining the 3D printer blueprints and appropriate rights to create or replicate the needed
inventory, the supervisor device may then coordinate scheduling creation or replication of the needed inventory via
the 3D printer based on a priority scheme, timing criteria, resource availability, or other suitable factors and
appropriately update the inventory that exists within the IoT network in response to the 3D printer successfully
creating physical objects that correspond to the needed inventory. Additionally, the supervisor device may store
inventory data that corresponds to the inventory that exists within the IoT network, the inventory needs in the IoT
network, and/or any other suitable inventory data that may be relevant to the current inventory or needed inventory
within the IoT network.

Diabetes mellitus is a disorder in which the pancreas cannot create sufficient insulin (Type I or insulin dependent)
and/or in which insulin is not effective (Type 2 or non-insulin dependent). In the diabetic state, the victim suffers
from high glucose, which may cause an array of physiological derangements (for example, kidney failure, skin
ulcers, or bleeding into the vitreous of the eye) associated with the deterioration of small blood vessels. A
25

hypoglycemic reaction (low glucose) may be induced by an inadvertent overdose of insulin, or after a normal dose
of insulin or glucose-lowering agent accompanied by extraordinary exercise or insufficient food intake.
The continuous analyte sensor comprises a sensor for detecting and/or measuring analytes, and the continuous
analyte sensor may be configured to continuously detect and/or measure analytes as a non-invasive device, a
subcutaneous device, a transdermal device, and/or an intravascular device. In some exemplary implementations,
the continuous analyte sensor may analyze a plurality of intermittent blood samples, although other analytes may
be used as well. The continuous analyte sensor may comprise a glucose sensor configured to measure glucose in
the blood using one or more measurement techniques, such as enzymatic, chemical, physical, electrochemical,
fluorescent, spectrophotometric, polarimetric, calorimetric, iontophoretic, radiometric, immunochemical, and the
like.
In implementations in which the continuous analyte sensor includes a glucose sensor, the glucose sensor may be
comprise any device capable of measuring the concentration of glucose and may use a variety of techniques to
measure glucose including invasive, minimally invasive, and non-invasive sensing techniques (e.g., fluorescent
monitoring), to provide a data, such as a data stream, indicative of the concentration of glucose in a host. The data
stream may be raw data signal, which is converted into a calibrated and/or filtered data stream used to provide a
value of glucose to a host, such as a user, a patient, or a caretaker (e.g., a parent, a relative, a guardian, a teacher, a
doctor, a nurse, or any other individual that has an interest in the wellbeing of the host). Moreover, the continuous
26
©2015 TechIPm, LLC All Rights Reserved http://www.techipm.com/
analyte sensor may be implanted as at least one of the following types of sensors: an implantable glucose sensor, a
transcutaneous glucose sensor, implanted in a host vessel or extracorporeally, a subcutaneous sensor, a refillable
subcutaneous sensor, an intravascular sensor.
The adaptive reporting process begins where glucose information is reported to user/patient in a first manner or
style. Not all users/patients intuitively prefer, or are able to cognitively handle, a common reporting style.
Furthermore, not all users/patients may be situated to receive the same report at all times. For example, a younger
patient who regularly interacts with electronic devices may adapt differently to the continuous monitoring system
than an older patient who rarely interacts with electronic devices. As another example, if a user/patient is driving, it
may be desirable to provide a concise report of information that can be comprehended while operating a car.
Similarly, if the user/patient is at home watching television, a more robust report may be desirable. Such variations
may affect patient behavior and impact utilization of the device and/or outcomes from using the device.

IoT Business Insights from Patents

  • 1. 1 ©2015 TechIPm, LLC All Rights Reserved http://www.techipm.com/ IoT Business Insights from Patents Patents are the good information resources for obtaining IoT business ideas. Followings are some examples of the IoT patents that provide potential business cases based on the IoT applications: smart office building, smart utility meter, smart home/building temperature control, smart transportation, connected car, smart manufacturing using 3D printer and smart healthcare. Smart Office Building US20150230167 (Method and System for Providing Service Based on Space; KAIST) Abstract: A method and system for providing a service based on space are disclosed herein. The method includes registering multiple smart access points respectively included in multiple spaces--each of the access points are connected to at least one Internet of Things (IoT) device that is further included in the corresponding space, providing first service control information to a first smart access point, in accordance with a request of the first smart access point, the first smart access point being accessed by a terminal of a user, among multiple access points, and providing second service control information to a second smart access point in accordance with a request of the second smart access point, when the terminal of the user accesses the second smart access point, among the multiple access points, and when the second smart access point recognizes a movement of the user.
  • 2. 2 ©2015 TechIPm, LLC All Rights Reserved http://www.techipm.com/ An exemplary service/application scenario: User A being identified by an e-mail address of `aaa@abc.com` and User B being identified by an e-mail address of `bbb@def.re.kr` wish to have a meeting in a conference room of Building C on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. User A
  • 3. 3 ©2015 TechIPm, LLC All Rights Reserved http://www.techipm.com/ may invite User B (by using the identifier `bbb@def.re.kr` of User B) and may reserve Conference Room A313 of Building C through a Calendar service by using the smart phone of User A. Here, Conference Room A313 of building C may be identified by an e-mail address of `CA313@thingsgate.com`, which corresponds to space matching identifier of the respective conference room. And, by inviting the e-mail address `CA313@thingsgate.com` through the Calendar service, Conference Room A313 may be reserved by User A. At this point, management of IoT devices that are included in the space of Conference Room A313 and management of the related services may be carried out by a smart access point belonging to Conference Room A313. In order to allow users to easily use Conference Room A313 in a cooperative environment, such smart access point may be assigned with the above-described e-mail address of `CA313@thingsgate.com`. As User B arrives in front of Building C, as soon as a Wi-Fi signal of Building C is received by the smart phone of User B, a welcoming message of an access information service (or connection information service) of Building C may be exposed to (or displayed on) the smart phone of User B. If User B responds to such welcoming message, reservation information that has been prearranged through the Calendar service may be notified to the smart phone of User B. User B may then move on to Conference Room A313 by being provided with a Wi-Fi signal based location guidance through the smart phone of User B. And, while User B is moving to Conference Room A313, automatic authentication of all doors located along the path may be realized, thereby allowing User B to pass through all
  • 4. 4 ©2015 TechIPm, LLC All Rights Reserved http://www.techipm.com/ doors in order to reach Conference Room A313 without any separate ID tag. Smart access points of each individual space may be connected to one another through a smart access point service platform. Accordingly, once User B is authenticated at the entrance of Building C, the corresponding authentication information is shared by all smart access points through the smart access point service platform, thereby reducing the complexity in sequential authentication procedures of the smart access points, which are connected to one another along the movement path of User B. Furthermore, in providing services to User B, service information between the smart access points being sequentially accessed by the smart phone of User B may be shared through the smart access point service platform. When User B enters Conference Room B, lights and lamps installed in the conference room may be automatically turned on, and operation of a ventilation system may be initiated. Thereafter, when User A enters Conference Room A313, a projector may be turned on, blinders of the conference room windows may be shut, and the lights may be turned off. In addition to such automatic services of the IoT devices, the users may be capable of controlling the specific space by using IoT applications existing within the smart access points of the corresponding space.
  • 5. 5 ©2015 TechIPm, LLC All Rights Reserved http://www.techipm.com/ Smart Utility Meter US20150229654 (SECURED TRANSACTIONS IN INTERNET OF THINGS EMBEDDED SYSTEMS NETWORKS; STMicroelectronics) Abstract: A secure network enabled device has a distinct security module and lacks a human user input interface. The security module is formed in an integrated circuit. The security module is initialized. Data is electronically communicated to and from the secure network enabled device via at least one transceiver. The security module is configured to test the integrity of a subset of the data communicated to the secure network enabled device, and the security module is configured to test the integrity of a transaction protocol, which governs the stream of data bits of the data communicated to the secure network enabled device. An exemplary service/application scenario: A public utility department controls water distribution lines to individual homes and businesses. The department measures one or both of the amount of water flowing into the home or business. Based on the measured flow, the owner of the home or business receives an invoice from the public utility department. A smart utility meter communicates service usage data back to a computing server of the public utility department. The computing server receives the service usage data and identifies the smart utility meter that sent the data. The computing server correlates the identity of the smart utility meter with a service address, and the computing server automatically
  • 6. 6 ©2015 TechIPm, LLC All Rights Reserved http://www.techipm.com/ generates the invoice that is sent to the service address. In some cases, the computing server is able to send control commands back to one or more smart utility meters. The control commands may, for example, limit the amount of services that are provided to the address via controls of particular valves, switches, or other devices. The smart meter includes an integrated circuit to carry out various functional tasks of the meter.
  • 7. 7 ©2015 TechIPm, LLC All Rights Reserved http://www.techipm.com/ In the smart meter, a bidirectional transceiver provides the only communication link to pass electronic data to and from the meter. Accordingly, the smart meter is lacking a human user input interface. The smart meter also includes a state machine configured to direct security operations on electronic data passed to and from the smart meter. The smart meter implementing the secure network enabled device is in an idle state waiting for instructions. The secure network enabled device implements a non-limiting asymmetrical cryptographic model for security. The secure network enabled device has an IoT security module configured to manage public and private keys so that data may be encrypted and decrypted according to an RSA algorithm. The public and private keys are stored in a non-volatile memory, some or all of which may be a one-time programmable (OTP) memory. At some point, the secure network enabled device is reset and moves to a reset authentication and initialization state. The secure network enabled device is able to access certain secure information in memory, which is not accessible by the processing unit or any other circuits of the smart meter. During reset, the validity of public and private keys, identifiers, network addresses, and other data may be validated. The validation may include a decryption of data stored in memory, a comparison of redundant data stored in a second area of memory, and other validation acts. In some cases, the IoT security module acts as a firewall for the smart meter. That is, the IoT security module monitors all traffic that travels to and from the smart meter, and the IoT security module identifies and prevents
  • 8. 8 ©2015 TechIPm, LLC All Rights Reserved http://www.techipm.com/ unknown and unexpected entities from communicating with the smart meter. The firewall functionality may be initialized after the processing unit passes a particular initialization command via the communication interface. Alternatively, or in addition, the firewall and other initialization may commence after a known entity, for example a computing server of the utility company, sends a command that is received via the one or more transceivers.
  • 9. 9 ©2015 TechIPm, LLC All Rights Reserved http://www.techipm.com/ Smart Home/Building Temperature Control US20150222490 (SEMANTIC DATA BROKER FOR DYNAMIC ASSOCIATION BETWEEN DEVICES AND APPLICATIONS; Cisco) Abstract: In one embodiment, a broker device receives device-identifying data to identify a device in a computer network. An ontology associated with the device-identifying data is then identified by the broker device and in response to identifying the ontology, interpretation instructions related to the identified ontology are determined. The broker device receives data from the identified device and interprets the received data based on the interpretation instructions. An exemplary service/application scenario:
  • 10. 10 ©2015 TechIPm, LLC All Rights Reserved http://www.techipm.com/ The device broker may be placed within a network where it would receive temperature-related data from a plurality of temperature sensors. A first temperature sensor may be associated with a conference room within a building and may be configured to measure the temperature of the conference room. The first temperature sensor may connect to the broker device by, for example, a constrained application protocol (CoAP) service, and provides identifying information of the sensor, which may include additional information such as location (e.g., sensor in the conference room). The broker device may then connect to a server to load the device ontology associated with the first
  • 11. 11 ©2015 TechIPm, LLC All Rights Reserved http://www.techipm.com/ temperature sensor. The device ontology provides the broker device with instructions on how to interpret the temperature measurements from the first temperature sensor. As an example, the interpretation instructions related to the device ontology may instruct that each instance of a temperature reading from the first temperature sensor should be interpreted as T=R*0.932, where R is the reading value measured by the sensor and T is the temperature in degrees Fahrenheit. A second temperature sensor, from a different manufacturer than the first temperature sensor, may have a different representation of temperature data. For example, the device ontology associated with the second temperature sensor may include instructions for the broker device to interpret each temperature reading as T=R/3+34. Accordingly, based on each device ontology, the broker device is provided with information on how to interpret different representations of data from various devices and provide an application with standardized format data. Furthermore, applications may demand more than merely a temperature reading. For example, an application may demand from a device, a temperature measurement taken at a specific time of day. Accordingly, when the broker device receives a temperature measurement from a temperature sensor, the broker device may tag the measurement with a timestamp. In other words, the broker device may create various categories for measurements taken by the same temperature sensor.
  • 12. 12 ©2015 TechIPm, LLC All Rights Reserved http://www.techipm.com/ Smart Transportation US20150205991 (INTERNET-OF-THINGS SYSTEM FOR PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION SERVICE AND METHOD OF OPERATING SAME; ETRI) Abstract: An Internet-of-Things (IoT) system for public transportation service and a method of operating the same are disclosed. The IoT system includes on-vehicle devices, a management server, a plurality of bus stop access points (APs), and a wired/wireless bus stop access point (AP) communication network. The on-vehicle devices are mounted within a bus, i.e., a public transportation means. The management server is connected to the bus over an Internet, i.e., a wireless communication means. The plurality of bus stop APs are short distance communication APs, and are each provided in each bus stop at which the bus stops and configured to enable information to be exchanged between the bus stop and the bus. The wired/wireless bus stop AP communication network connects the plurality of bus stop APs. The management server performs Internet access processing to connect the bus stop AP communication network and an external terminal. An exemplary service/application scenario:

  • 14. 14 ©2015 TechIPm, LLC All Rights Reserved http://www.techipm.com/ communication network. Furthermore, an external terminal may be connected to the management server over the Internet. A passenger of the bus receives public transportation service via a corresponding passenger terminal during a period from the time at which the user gets on the bus to the time at which the user gets off the bus. The bus is equipped with a bus stop AP communication unit configured to communicate with the bus stop APs that enable bus stops and the bus to exchange information. Furthermore, the bus is further equipped with an entrance tag reader and an exit tag reader configured to read a tag contained in each passenger terminal. The entrance tag reader reads tag information from a corresponding passenger terminal when each passenger gets on the bus. The exit tag reader reads tag information from a corresponding passenger terminal when each passenger gets off the bus. Accordingly, information about one or more passengers on the bus may be checked via the entrance tag reader and the exit tag reader. The bus stop AP communication unit, the entrance tag reader, and the exit tag reader are connected to an on- vehicle AP. The on-vehicle AP performs wireless packet communication with the management server over the Internet, and collects and manages tag information that has been read by the entrance tag reader and the exit tag reader from the passenger terminal. Furthermore, the on-vehicle AP has a small base station function of forming a network along with one or more passenger terminals on the bus and also controlling packet communication with the management server.
  • 15. 15 ©2015 TechIPm, LLC All Rights Reserved http://www.techipm.com/ When each passenger gets on the bus, the entrance tag reader reads tag information from a corresponding passenger terminal, and then transfers the read tag information to the on-vehicle AP. The entrance tag reader can perform bi-directional communication, and may transfer information, provided by the on-vehicle AP, to the passenger terminals. When each passenger gets off the bus, the exit tag reader reads tag information from a corresponding passenger terminal, and then transfers the read tag information to the on-vehicle AP. Accordingly, the on-vehicle AP may form a network with respect to only one or more passengers on the bus using the tag information of the passengers who have not got off the bus after getting on the bus by referring to the tag information read by the entrance tag reader and the exit tag reader. Furthermore, the on-vehicle AP may provide an Internet service and/or a specific information service to the passenger terminals of the passengers on the bus via the management server. The management server includes a central control unit and a communication interface configured to connect the management server to both the bus stop AP communication network for connecting the bus stop APs and the Internet for connecting the external terminal and on-vehicle APs provided in respective vehicles. Furthermore, a bus database (DB) for receiving information about buses from the respective on-vehicle APs and storing the received information, and a passenger DB for storing passenger information including tag information provided by the passenger terminals 300 of one or more passengers on each bus are connected to the control unit.

The video processing services detect the pedestrians and their distances from the car, detect the road signs and detect the face and closure of eyes of the driver.
  • 20. 20 ©2015 TechIPm, LLC All Rights Reserved http://www.techipm.com/ Smart Manufacturing US20140244017 (DETERMINING ITEMS TO BUILD BASED ON AN INTERNET OF THINGS (IOT) NETWORK INVENTORY AND BUILDING THE DETERMINED ITEMS USING A 3D PRINTER; Qualcomm) Abstract: The disclosure generally relates to determining items to build based on inventory in an Internet of Things (IoT) network and using a 3D printer to build the determined items. In particular, inventory in the IoT network may be monitored to predict replacement needs associated with certain items in the IoT network inventory and determine further inventory needs (e.g., based on items that malfunction or break, upcoming calendar events, etc.). In one embodiment, in response to determining that additional inventory items may be needed in the IoT network, licenses and 3D printer blueprints to build the items may be obtained (internally and/or externally) and 3D printing may be scheduled to build the items (e.g., based on a priority scheme, timing criteria, resource availability, etc.), whereby the items may be added to the IoT network inventory when the 3D printer completes 3D print jobs to produce the items. An exemplary service/application scenario:
  • 21. 21 ©2015 TechIPm, LLC All Rights Reserved http://www.techipm.com/ The supervisor device may be used to observe, monitor, control, or otherwise manage the communications systems and thereby determine an inventory that exists within the IoT network. Furthermore, the supervisor device may
  • 22. 22 ©2015 TechIPm, LLC All Rights Reserved http://www.techipm.com/ communicate with various other components in the systems to determine what inventory needs may exist, identify an appropriate source to obtain 3D printer blueprints or other suitable information to create or replicate the needed inventory, and obtain appropriate rights (e.g., a license) to create or replicate the needed inventory. In response to suitably obtaining the 3D printer blueprints and appropriate rights to create or replicate the needed inventory, the supervisor device may then coordinate scheduling creation or replication of the needed inventory via the 3D printer based on a priority scheme, timing criteria, resource availability, or other suitable factors and appropriately update the inventory that exists within the IoT network in response to the 3D printer successfully creating physical objects that correspond to the needed inventory. Additionally, the supervisor device may store inventory data that corresponds to the inventory that exists within the IoT network, the inventory needs in the IoT network, and/or any other suitable inventory data that may be relevant to the current inventory or needed inventory within the IoT network.
  • 23. 23 ©2015 TechIPm, LLC All Rights Reserved http://www.techipm.com/ Smart Healthcare US20150120317 (ADAPTIVE INTERFACE FOR CONTINUOUS MONITORING DEVICES; DexCom) Abstract: Systems and methods that continuously adapt aspects of a continuous monitoring device based on collected information to provide an individually tailored configuration are described. The adaptations may include adapting the user interface, the alerting, the motivational messages, the training, and the like. Such adaptation can allow a patient to more readily identify and understand the information provided by/via the device. An exemplary service/application scenario:
  • 24. 24 ©2015 TechIPm, LLC All Rights Reserved http://www.techipm.com/ Diabetes mellitus is a disorder in which the pancreas cannot create sufficient insulin (Type I or insulin dependent) and/or in which insulin is not effective (Type 2 or non-insulin dependent). In the diabetic state, the victim suffers from high glucose, which may cause an array of physiological derangements (for example, kidney failure, skin ulcers, or bleeding into the vitreous of the eye) associated with the deterioration of small blood vessels. A
  • 25. 25 ©2015 TechIPm, LLC All Rights Reserved http://www.techipm.com/ hypoglycemic reaction (low glucose) may be induced by an inadvertent overdose of insulin, or after a normal dose of insulin or glucose-lowering agent accompanied by extraordinary exercise or insufficient food intake. The continuous analyte sensor comprises a sensor for detecting and/or measuring analytes, and the continuous analyte sensor may be configured to continuously detect and/or measure analytes as a non-invasive device, a subcutaneous device, a transdermal device, and/or an intravascular device. In some exemplary implementations, the continuous analyte sensor may analyze a plurality of intermittent blood samples, although other analytes may be used as well. The continuous analyte sensor may comprise a glucose sensor configured to measure glucose in the blood using one or more measurement techniques, such as enzymatic, chemical, physical, electrochemical, fluorescent, spectrophotometric, polarimetric, calorimetric, iontophoretic, radiometric, immunochemical, and the like. In implementations in which the continuous analyte sensor includes a glucose sensor, the glucose sensor may be comprise any device capable of measuring the concentration of glucose and may use a variety of techniques to measure glucose including invasive, minimally invasive, and non-invasive sensing techniques (e.g., fluorescent monitoring), to provide a data, such as a data stream, indicative of the concentration of glucose in a host. The data stream may be raw data signal, which is converted into a calibrated and/or filtered data stream used to provide a value of glucose to a host, such as a user, a patient, or a caretaker (e.g., a parent, a relative, a guardian, a teacher, a doctor, a nurse, or any other individual that has an interest in the wellbeing of the host). Moreover, the continuous
  • 26. 26 ©2015 TechIPm, LLC All Rights Reserved http://www.techipm.com/ analyte sensor may be implanted as at least one of the following types of sensors: an implantable glucose sensor, a transcutaneous glucose sensor, implanted in a host vessel or extracorporeally, a subcutaneous sensor, a refillable subcutaneous sensor, an intravascular sensor. The adaptive reporting process begins where glucose information is reported to user/patient in a first manner or style. Not all users/patients intuitively prefer, or are able to cognitively handle, a common reporting style. Furthermore, not all users/patients may be situated to receive the same report at all times. For example, a younger patient who regularly interacts with electronic devices may adapt differently to the continuous monitoring system than an older patient who rarely interacts with electronic devices. As another example, if a user/patient is driving, it may be desirable to provide a concise report of information that can be comprehended while operating a car. Similarly, if the user/patient is at home watching television, a more robust report may be desirable. Such variations may affect patient behavior and impact utilization of the device and/or outcomes from using the device.
