2. Arctic Monkeys are an English rock band
formed in 2002 in High Green, a suburb of
Sheffield. The band consists of Alex Turner
(lead vocals, rhythm guitar, lead guitar),
Matt Helders (drums). Former band member
Andy (bass) left the band in 2006 shortly
after their debut album was released.
They released five studio albums: Whatever
people Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not (2006),
Favourite Worst Nightmare (2007), Humbug
(2009), Suck It and See (2011), and AM
(2013), as well as one live album, At the
Apollo (2008). Their debut album is the
fastest-selling debut album by a band in
British chart history.
They are a band of young boys who aren't
high profile and have a south London look to
them. However, this all changed as they
became more popular.
3. When the band formed they were
known in Sheffield and rehearsed
at the Yellow Arch Studios in
Neepsneed followed by a gig in
2003 at the city centre. In the
beginning money wasn’t an object
to them as they were new. When
they started to record demos at
another studio they produced 17
songs to create their most iconic
album Beneath The Boardwalk. In
time the group popular across the
north of England receiving
attention from BBC radio and the
British tabloid press.
4. The Arctic monkeys became bigger and bigger
as songs wowed the rock/pop fans. The
authenticity gave them a record contract with
Domino which helped to release their first and
best singles in 2005/6, ‘Fake Tales of San
Francisco’ and ‘I Bet You Look Good On The
Dance Floor’. This was an ongoing process as
they released new albums and then shaped the
way indie rock was made. ITunes was one way
they got popular too.
Nowadays they perform many festivals such
with Reading as their most recent performing
many songs from AM, they’re latest album.
Suddenly, their whole career changed as their
music changed to suit different sounds and
attract a wider fan base.
5. Holidays are the monkeys have a small fan base and performed in
small arenas. Mainly to male men. However as they got discovered
their fan base increased and ranged between all young ages of all
sexes.
They performed in well-known concert halls and their music
involved many genres that captivated the public.
This shows how they have been manufactured and that their music
acts as a type of hegemony because the lyrics are relatable.
This shows how organic artists can introduce synthetic features as
singles are promoted and profits are short term, however they still
write their own music and chose a time to be successful.
