Two parties decide to
exchange an object of
value, deliver a service
or another asset, like a
certificate or diploma.
The Transaction is
initiated.

Execution of the
transaction is now
considered complete.

packaged with other
transactions to create a
Block. The block is sent
to the computers
participating in the
distributed network.

The participating
“nodes” evaluate the
transactions and
determine if they are
valid, using rule-based
mathematical
calculations. When
consensus is achieved
Verification takes
place.







Each verified block is
time-stamped with a
cryptographic hash.
Each block also
contains a reference to
the previous block’s
hash, thus creating the
blockchain, a chain of
records that can’t be
falsified.

• In essence, payroll is a ‘black box’ calculation engine
• Controlled by a single entity – in this case NGA
• Quality and correctness of incoming data determines the
quality and correctness of payroll
• One payroll administrator starts the calculation process
• A payroll run requires a large amount of data processing,
and often several runs are needed to calculate the final
payments

All rights reserved. 6 How Blockchain Works 1 Two parties decide to exchange an object of value, deliver a service or another asset, like a certificate or diploma. The Transaction is initiated. 5 Execution of the transaction is now considered complete. 2 The transaction is packaged with other transactions to create a Block. The block is sent to the computers participating in the distributed network. ? ? ? ? ? ? 3 The participating “nodes” evaluate the transactions and determine if they are valid, using rule-based mathematical calculations. When consensus is achieved Verification takes place.       4 Each verified block is time-stamped with a cryptographic hash. Each block also contains a reference to the previous block’s hash, thus creating the blockchain, a chain of records that can’t be falsified.
