- Lori- Welcome I have the blessing and privilege of serving as the Principal of Alta Loma Christian School. Thank you for coming tonight to celebrate your students’ accomplishments and to share in our plans for the future. We’re so glad that God has led you here this evening, and we’re excited to share with you all that God is doing here at HIS school. - As we look at the condition of the world around us, it makes us ever more mindful to guard their hearts and help them to fulfill their potential so that they are prepared to meet the challenges that will undoubtedly face them in their futures. In their professional and personal lives as adults, these students will face challenges we can’t even imagine As you visit the classrooms, you’ll be amazed at the growth you’ll see in your students’ writing, math abilities (including mastery of math facts), and creative projects. You won’t want to miss the computer lab, and the variety of student work displayed in the hallways throughout the building.
- Our school program was given the highest marks of approval from the visiting committee. They said that our instructional program documents were some of the best they had seen in terms of clarity, continuity, and depth. Thank you to the parents and students who participated in the interviews and supported this process. We received a 6 year accreditation term, making us one of only 15% of public and private elementary schools nationwide that have achieved the distinction of accreditation. We are honored had God has blessed our collaborative efforts and can hardly wait to see what He does next!
- To call the times we are in anything else wouldn’t make sense. Certainly, as believers, we know that God holds our futures in His hands, and despite circumstances, He is in control- we can rest and rejoice in that! We have been blessed because what God purposed in our hearts He also brought to reality, and He has made it possible for us to maintain these programs and to move forward. Our plans for next year are to expand these programs even more, and looking at 2011-2012, we are looking at a variety of options for adding Art into our program as well as expanding our music program.
- We all live and work with technology every day. Our computers and technology program provides students with skills they will use for their education and for life. But we all know how fast technology improves and changes, and it’s challenging to keep up with the latest and greatest in the industry. We are very excited to be offering a new technology program for our students next year by a unique educational service called BEYOND Technology Education, Inc. - This will be the last year we use the SAT-10 test. It will be replaced beginning in 2011 with the TERRA NOVA 3 test by CTB McGraw Hill. Very similar to the Stanford Test, but will correspond to the Common Core State Standards which we will be adopting along with California public schools. Many other states in the nation have already adopted these standards.
- The STAR Reading and STAR Math tests were taken in January by our 1 st -8 th grade students. These scores are then compared to the students’ scores on the tests at the beginning of the year. These tests are administered and scored by the computer. Test questions are generated from a test bank of over 2000 questions. In January we were in school 5 months this school year (September-January). A score showing 5 months of growth would mean that we are doing our job, and students are doing their job, learning!
- Fifth graders started the year at 5.8, and in January scored 7.1, for a gain in GE of 1.3 Other grade levels showed similar progress. Math is a tough subject, but even our students who struggle in this area have shown significant growth. This shows that our curriculum is well-paced, and our teachers are doing a commendable job.
- We encourage you to not procrastinate in turning in your registration payment and forms. We know that some classes/grade levels will fill quickly, and we can best meet the needs of our families if we plan early, so please help us to do this.
- Summer Program-- Directed by Mrs. Cleland Preschool Program- taught by our Preschool Teachers Elementary School K-8- Mrs. Childs– 2 week music program ending with a musical performed Friday evening of the second week Mr. Brandl and Mrs. Kuwahara– 3-4 hours per day, Language Arts/Writing, Math and Science, split by grade level groups, Bellwork bridge curriculum Ms. Imsen, Mrs. Louis Pass out maps Pray, dismiss Play photo slideshow again
