Introduction
S Born in the year 1993, into the “generation Y” known as the “digital natives”. I could say that my interaction with
technology began since I was a child. I remember the first PlayStation that was ever launched, the era of Nokia
phones and the snake game, and the excitement of listening to music in my Sony Walkman. Now looking back,
things have revolutionized so fast that technology has become more of a necessity instead of a desire/want.
Nowadays, people have become more dependent on technology than ever which impacts human relations in lots of
ways.
Throughout the presentation I will
explain:
What “social interaction” is
Facts about technology and social
interaction
The impact of technology on human
relations
And how social interaction will look like
in10 years
What is “Social Interaction”
S Human beings are social creatures. We are social not just in the trivial sense that we like company, and not just in
the obvious sense that we each depend on others. We are social in a more elemental way: simply to exist, as a
normal human being requires interaction with other people.
-Atul Gawande
S According the Psychology Dictionary, social interaction is a process of reciprocal stimulation or response between 2
people. It develops competition, interaction, influences social roles and status and people for social relationships.

Facts about technology and
social interaction
We need to keep in mind that technology
changes but us human’s don’t.
According to Forbes magazine, only 7%
of communication is based on the verbal
word. Which indicates that more than
90% of communication is based on
nonverbal conduct such as body
language, eye contact and voice tone.
According to the Digital in 2017 Global
Overview report from We Are Social;
within the total population consisting of
7.48 billion there are 3.77 internet users,
2.80 active social media users, 4.92
unique mobile users and 2.56 billion
active mobile social users and 1.61 billion
global e-commerce users in 2017.
Facts about technology and
social interaction
According to
Hosting Facts,
“Internet Stats &
Facts for 2016”;
Digital interactions
influenced retail
sales to the tune
of $2.2 trillion in
2015.
By 2017, there will
be more internet
traffic than all prior
internet years
combined
2.9 billion Google
searches are
made every day.
40% of global
internet users, or
more than 1 billion
people, have
bought products
or goods online.
8 out of 10
consumers will
shop online if
offered free
shipping.
E-commerce sales
from social media
grew by 202% in
2014, and is
expected to
further increase.
4 out of 5
consumers use a
Smartphone to
shop.

The impact of technology on
human relations
As evidence from
previous slide regarding
the facts and statistics, we
could see that people
nowadays are becoming
more digital and drifting
away from physical
interaction. Although
technology plays a role in
uniting people across the
world, helping you to
interact with your old
friends or friends abroad,
at the same time it limits
the face-face interaction
which is the most effective
way of communication.
As technology is one of
the fastest and for some
people the most
convenient way to shop
and to gather information,
people today prefer to use
tools such as Google,
Wikipedia and other
searching tools to find the
information they are
looking for. Which leads
us to the conclusion of
loss in face-face relations
but introduction of new
forms of communication
such as forums and
review pages.
Today, consumers are
drifting away from bricks
and mortar concept and
preferring to shop online
from e-commerce
websites because they
find it time saving.
Whereas consumers
instead of going to a
physical store and
interacting with staff
directly, they use web as
an intermediary and avoid
direct communication with
the stores.
The good part of
technology is, you can
interact with different
people and widen your
social horizon by using
other social media tools.
At the same time with
technology,
communication has never
been easier. Today
technology provides the
ability to communicate
with friends who you lost
contact with or unite
people in one group to do
your projects or to
organize an event.
