Finally, the accused of £800,000 has been
sentenced for the prison of three and a half year
due to his involvement in VAT scam.
Mohammad Tanwir Khan, a 58 years old man,
disappeared after he had been found guilty for
presenting fake invoices to her Majesty’s Revenue
and Customs i.e. HMRC. The fake invoices he
presented were more than 350 and were related to
the exports to Pakistan, which were never
happened in real. This entire scam was organized
and executed in between the years of 2006-2011.

Due to this planned illegal activity, Khan declared
as the most wanted fraudster by the Revenue and
Customs. His name is added to the list of top 20 tax
fraudsters organized by HMRC last year. Khan was
suspected for the illegal activities back in 2010 by
HMRC. The authorities of HMRC found lots of
discrepancies in his tax receipts during the routine
scrutiny of tax.

However, Khan was charged for his fraudulent act
for £817,000 back in May 2011. The entire case
was forwarded for further investigation. The most
amazing fact is that during the trial in the court,
hundreds of invoices were presented, which were
overwritten by using fluid on them. Majority of them
were related to the provision of mechanical parts to
various clients in Pakistan. The most surprising
name was of Pakistan navy, which was never a
client of Khan along with many other companies.
6. Mohammad Tanwir Khan
When Khan was interviewed for the clarification of
the overwritten invoices, he could not justify
them. HMRC is always a concern and thus,
precedes the tax fraud crimes seriously. Despite of
immense efforts, only one man has been caught
yet. Still the officials and other authorities claim to
have an eye on the missing. Let’s hope HMRC will
be succeeded this time too to catch other criminals
too.
