HS&E Manager for UK (based) & Norway
GENERAL PURPOSE:
The flavor manufacturing company is looking to appoint an HSE professional with the ability to
lead policy and procedure across the organization. You will have to work at all levels of the
business, further developing a strong safety culture where personal ownership of HS&E
performance is the aim. Improving process safety knowledge and application will be a key
objective as will be training and coaching. This would suit an enthusiastic and ambitious
individual with a strong personality and a proven ability to lead by example.
Reports to :
Solid line report to Regional HS&E Director (Based in Geneva) and dotted line report to Affiliate
Site Manager (Based in the UK)
Purpose/Mission:
• Encourage and sustain a real passion and commitment to world class HS&E performance
within the local affiliate.
• To assist the UK (Yorkshire) affiliate as well as the Norwegian affiliate management in
delivering all aspects of HS&E management and legal compliance.
• To be a leader and motivator in all aspects of health and safety matters.
• Ensure full compliance with all current legislation
• Ensure that the UK site Safety Management Systems are administered controlled and
maintained in accordance with standards by setting Compliance Schedule actions.
• Safety walks
• Review of RA, SSOW
• Internal audits
• OSHASS audits
• Annual management review
• Report in Monthly management meeting
• Ensure that the Safety Environmental Management Systems are implemented,
controlled and maintained in accordance with the standards.
• Ensure that each project has:
• A Safety & Environmental plan including a waste management plan

2. • An emergency preparedness plan in place which is communicated to and
implemented by all on site.
• A PHA/HAZOP where necessary.
• Support and carry out OHSAS 18001 audits and review process as well as ISO 14001 for
facility in NORWAY
• Facilitate achievement of ISO1400 at the Yorkshire site and be part of the project team.
• Ensure collection of e‐KPIs
• Be first point of call for all safety and environmental issues and advice for Management.
• Encourage and assist clients, supply chain and staff to adopt best practice
• Work as part of a high performing team and be a team player
• Promote the company as a safe and environmentally responsible company.
• Compile and deliver HS&E training to all staff.
• Challenge status quo and seek real innovation in all areas.
• Develop the skills of site based management staff and subcontractors in all areas of
health and safety and environment.
• Support group and national initiatives.
• Maintain close liaison with Enforcing Authorities
• Facilitate execution of FIRMENICH HS&E strategy locally with direction from Regional
HS&E Director.
• Implement best practices, deploy HS&E tools and working directly with line
management, adopt a “hands on” approach to the development and implementation of
local solutions.
• Implement FIRMENICH HS&E Management Principle, Codes, Standards and Guidance in
line with the Local HS&E Management System and provide relevant training to all
affiliate personnel.
• Support line management to ensure a consistent and proactive approach to delivering
day‐to‐day continually improving HS&E performance across the affiliate.
• To ensure arrangements are in place for HS&E audits/reviews and inspections of the
workplace, plant and equipment in order to monitor compliance with the Company
HS&E Management System and local legal requirements.
• To ensure all occupational injuries/illnesses, dangerous occurrences, incidents and at risk
behaviors are fully investigated and reported with findings and recommendations for
preventive action and corrective action on IMS system where appropriate.
• To advise and assist in all risk assessment activities, including advice on new investments
and projects locally.
• To assist local management in the development and execution of a local HS&E
Improvement Plan. Monitoring this against local Objectives and Targets.
• To prepare monthly and quarterly HSE local management reports and delivery of
presentations on a regular basis.
• To participate in the Local HS&E Management Committee.

Experience, Education & Skills:
• At least 3 years experience as a local HS&E Specialist
• Good knowledge of ISO 14001/OHSAS 18001 standards
• Knowledge and experience of process safety concepts and HAZOP.
• Science or Technical based Degree, preferably in Chemistry/Food Technology
• French knowledge is an advantage
• Working towards or already achieved a professional HS&E qualification. NEBOSH
Diploma – ideally
• Experience of delivering HS&E training would be ideal. Interpersonal and people skills as
well as good communication and presentation skills.
• Excellent knowledge of UK and EU regulatory requirements
• The role requires an independent, self sufficient professional with strong team working
skills in order to work in a collaborative style.
• Exposure to PHAWorks process hazard analysis software would be a bonus but not
essential as training will be arranged.
