The manufacturing base has not recovered, and has in fact suffered consistently from the impact of a lack of or sporadic availability of electricity, leading to factories closing down given the uncompetitive cost to market of manufacturing using production based on diesel generator sets. The World Bank in its current “Doing Business 2015” Report ranks Nigeria 170 out of 189 surveyed countries. ===In terms of ease of getting electricity, Nigeria is ranked 187 ===Nigerian businesses’ biggest reported problem is the erratic power supply. the top five drivers of the economy are the following sectors: agriculture, trade, mining, information and communications, and manufacturing. These top five sectors represent more than 70% of total GDP. The main businesses are cement, light industry (aluminium processing, paints), food and beverage packaging, as well as subsectors supplying the oil and gas industry.

Irrespective of the strong fossil fuel resources, the majority of the energy consumption relies on biofuel and waste. The primary biofuel source used is firewood.
