WHAT IS IOT
 The IoT, or Internet of Things, is a platform
that provides connections of billions of
physical devices to the internet by sharing
and collecting data.
 Anything from the size of a pill to the size of
an aeroplane can be connected and
managed, into a part of an IoT which is made
possible by the arrival of super-cheap
computer chips and the ubiquity of wireless
networks.info@pingalasoftware.com www.pingalasoftware.com
 An IoT device could be as fluffy as a child’s
toy or as serious as a driverless truck. Today,
some larger objects may themselves be filled
with many smaller IoT components, such as
a jet engine that’s now filled with thousands
of sensors collecting and transmitting data
back to make sure it is operating efficiently.
 At an even bigger scale, smart cities projects
are filling entire regions with sensors to help
us understand and control the environment.

HOW IT WORKS
The IoT system is based on 4 fundamental
components, which tells us how IoT works.
www.pingalasoftware.cominfo@pingalasoftware.com
1) Sensors/Devices
First, sensors or devices help in collecting
very minute data from the surrounding
environment. All of this collected data can
have various degrees of complexities
ranging from a simple temperature
monitoring sensor or a complex full video
feed. A device can have multiple sensors
that can bundle together to do more than
just sense things. The most rudimentary
step will always remain to pick and collect
data from the surrounding environment be it
a standalone sensor or multiple devices.
www.pingalasoftware.cominfo@pingalasoftware.com
2) Connectivity
Next, that collected data is sent to a cloud
infrastructure but it needs a medium for
transport.
The sensors can be connected to the cloud
through mediums of communication and
transports such as cellular networks,
satellite networks, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, wide-
area networks (WAN), low power wide area
network and many more.
www.pingalasoftware.cominfo@pingalasoftware.com
3) Data Processing
Once the data is collected and it gets to the
cloud, the software performs processing on
the acquired data. This can range from
something very simple to complex from
checking temperature reading on devices to
identifying objects using computer vision on
video.
www.pingalasoftware.cominfo@pingalasoftware.com
4) User Interface
Next, the information made available to
the end-user in some way. This can
achieve by triggering alarms on their
phones or notifying through texts or
emails.
Also, a user sometimes might also have
an interface through which they can actively
check in on their IOT system.
Depending on the IoT application and
complexity of the system, the user may
also be able to perform an action that may
backfire and affect the system.www.pingalasoftware.cominfo@pingalasoftware.com
There are also cases where some actions
perform automatically. By establishing and
implementing some predefined rules, the
entire IOT system can adjust the settings
automatically and no human has to be
physically present. Also in case if any
intruders are sensed, the system can
generate an alert not only to the owner of the
house but to the concerned authorities.
www.pingalasoftware.cominfo@pingalasoftware.com
WHY IOT IS IMPORTANT
 The internet of things helps people live and
work smarter, as well as gain complete
control over their lives. In addition to offering
smart devices to automate homes, IoT is
essential to business. IoT provides
businesses with a real-time look into how
their systems really work, delivering insights
into everything from the performance of
machines to supply chain and logistics
operations.
www.pingalasoftware.cominfo@pingalasoftware.com
 IoT enables companies to automate
prpcesses and reduce labor costs. It also
cuts down on waste and improves service
delivery, making it less expensive to
manufacture and deliver goods, as well as
offering transparency into customer
transactions.
 As such, IoT is one of the most important
technologies of everyday life, and it will
continue to pick up steam as more
businesses realize the potential of
connected devices to keep them
competitive.
www.pingalasoftware.cominfo@pingalasoftware.com
BENEFITS OF IOT
 To Organizations
The IoT offers several benefits to
organizations. Some benefits are industry-
specific, and some are applicable across
multiple industries. Some of the common
benefits of IoT enable businesses to :
• Monitor their overall business processes;
• Improve the customer experience(CX);
• Save time and money;
• Enhance employee productivity;
www.pingalasoftware.cominfo@pingalasoftware.com
• Integrate and adapt business models;
• Make better business decisions; and
• Generate more revenue.
Generally IoT is most abundant in
manufacturing, transportation and utility
organizations, making use of sensors and
other IoT devices.
IoT encourages companies to rethink the
ways they approach their businesses and
gives them the tools to improve their
business strategies.
www.pingalasoftware.cominfo@pingalasoftware.com
 For Consumers
The IoT promises to make our environment –
our homes and offices and vehicles –
smarter, more measurable, and…chattier.
Smart speakers like Amazon’s Echo and
Google Home make it easier to play music,
set timers, or get information. Looking
beyond the home, sensors can help us to
understand how noisy or polluted our
environment might be. Self-driving cars and
smart cities could change how we build and
manage our public spaces.

ADVANTAGES OF IOT
• IoT encourages communication between
devices, thus providing total transparency
and greater quality.
• Due to physical objects getting connected
and controlled digitally and centrally with
wireless infrastructure, there is a large
amount of automation and control in the
workings.
• IoT helps in monitoring the systems and thus
takes control over them itself.
• The machine-to-machine interaction provideswww.pingalasoftware.cominfo@pingalasoftware.com
• Better efficiency, hence; accurate results can
be obtained fast. This results in saving
valuable time.
• In IoT, the devices are under surveillance.
So we can be alerted in case of possible
bottlenecks, breakdowns, and damages to
the system. Hence, we can save money by
using this technology.
• All the applications of this technology
culminate in increased comfort,
convenience, and better management,
thereby improving the quality of life.
