2. What is Salat-ul-Musafir?
Allah makes worshipping easy for
travelling Muslims. During travel, Allah
allows the travellers to shorten and combine
their prayers. This is Salat-ul-Musafir, which
means “The Traveller’s Prayer,” and is
sometimes called Salat-ul-Qasr, which means
“The Shortened Prayer.”
3. Rules and Guidelines on Praying Salat-ul-
Musafir
• Do NOT shorten Maghrib and Fajr.
• Combinations are like this…
• Do NOT combine the prayers in any other
combinations that differ from the table on the right
• Do NOT miss Thuhr, Asr, and Maghrib, and then pray
them altogether in Ishaa’. It doesn’t work like that.
• You may not shorten or combine Fajr with any other
prayers.
• To be become a musafir, you have to be at least about
80 km from your home.
Prayer Normal
During
Travel
Fajr 2 2
Thuhr 4 2
Asr 4 2
Maghrib 3 3
Ishaa’ 4 2
4. What is Qasr?
The definition of Qasr is
“shortening the prayer.” Only the
four rak’aat prayers can be
shortened. That means that we
can only shorten Thuhr, Asr, and
Ishaa’, but not Fajr or Maghrib.
5. What is Jama’a?
Jama’a is combining two Fard prayers
into one prayer time with the certain
conditions. Jama’a can only be done in the
pair of prayers it is placed in. The pairs are:
Thuhr and Asr, and Maghrib and Ishaa’. The
Fajr prayer cannot be combined with any
other prayers.
