Manila Water has expanded its services and improved efficiency since privatizing in 1997. It aims to become a leader in water, wastewater, and environmental services through empowering people and protecting the environment. Manila Water follows a business model of being financially profitable, socially responsible, and environmentally sustainable. It has increased 24/7 water availability from 26% of customers in 1997 to 99% in 2010. Its wastewater program has expanded the coverage of its sewer networks and treatment plants. Five of Manila Water's facilities have received ISO 14001 certification for their environmental management systems, and more facilities and the entire company will seek certification in the future.
