1. Technology In the News Adrianna Djie App for Discovering What’s Nearby Natasha Baker, Reuters October 31, 2011 http://www.ottawacitizen.com/technology/personal-tech/discovering+what+happening+nearby/5632937/story.html
This app is called: Roamz It allows you to connect with Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare and Instagram…all social networking sites. When you connect with Roamz you get to see several updates about places nearby. Roamz sifts through all the nonsense and focuses on your location and your personal interests. Although there are still some complications. There would be more information and less processing time for a city like New York, and other cities maybe not as much information and more processing time. But it hasn’t stopped them from getting over 8000 downloads.
It gathers public data, like where you are, your personal interests and what you’re looking for. You can choose from 10 different categories such as: Child/Pet Friendly Activities Restaurants Attractions Shopping Nightlife Etc. It uses artificial intelligence to remember what your interests are and recent and continuous activity. In other words, it gets to know you better; like a friend.
In my opinion, this app is very useful. You can use it where ever you are and for finding almost anything. Also, it’s free, some venue locating apps cost money; you can receive this one for free. It allows you to discover so many new and interesting places around you, that you didn’t even know about. You can see what everyone else is doing and not just your friends like other apps. But, in certain areas there is not as much activity and there’s less information.
