4. Dear Fellow Residents,
The last four years has been exciting, challenging, humbling and rewarding as
your local Councillor.
On the 28th of April, 2012, the local Council elections will be held. I wish to
continue “serving you as your local Councillor”.
In the next four years my priorities are set around roads, the local economy and
independently fighting for the best outcomes for Division 12.
With all this in mind, Division 12 is in the process of receiving a record
$18.5million for local Council roads. This excludes State and Federal roads.
On one occasion, I also tabled a successful petition to fix Homestead road,
Morayfield.
Much of the road rebuilding and upgrading around Division 12 is already
underway with a big emphasis on planning to get it right for the long range future.
Having good roads is a good investment that brings many returns to the
community in ways such as safety, less wear-and-tear on your vehicle and
making this a place people are proud to call theirs.
Another great investment has been the first Moreton Bay Hinterland Visitor
Information Centre (MBHVIC).
To get the MBHVIC project off the ground, I lent my sticker van (yes, I was a sign
writer before becoming a Councillor) which is set up on the D’Aguilar Highway,
Woodford. These humble beginnings for the MBHVIC has taken the experts by
surprise due to the high number of inquires it consistently deals with.
A flow on benefit of having a working information centre is the injection into the
local economy. However, I want to take this a lot further with a Council ‘local buy’
policy.
This is a policy I am taking into my next term. Moreton Bay Regional Council
would be required to ‘weight’ its consideration of each purchase with a local
element.
A similar policy is in use by other Councils giving local businesses a better
opportunity to become suppliers to the biggest purchaser in the region.
Over the coming weeks I will share more of my vision for Division 12 with you.
