• First started in Israel in 1995.
• In 1998 less than 1% US phonecalls used VoIP.
• By the year 2008, there is an estimate that the
revenues are 8.5 billion dollars from VoIP
equipment.
• The quality issues were adressed by
prioritizing voice over traffic.
3. How does it work?
• Communication over the internet with the
desired people.
• Translates voice signal
into data packages.
• Gateway used to connect
to PSTN
(public switched telephone
network).
6. Advantages
• Very low cost (or even free)
- There are many open source programs.
- There are many freeware programs.
• Most libraries are able to use VoIP
• Allows voice chat with customers.
7. Disadvantages
• May require (extra) training.
• Allows voice chat with customers.
• Due to the broadband connection
services it may have interruptions.
