DAVIS RESIDENCE DESIGN CONCEPT -Where Fire meets Earth-      Pat Davis, a young event planner recently moved from Barcelona, Spain purchased this loft apartment facing the Hudson River to remind her of her hometown by the ocean. She is 34 years old and single, and has come to New York to expand her business and work on social event planning for the Spanish embassy in the US. Because of her work, she has an active social life, is always receiving people at her home and also loves exploring the nightlife. However, she also enjoys spending quiet evenings at home, which she considers her sanctuary to recharge from her long crazy days. While at home, she likes to cook, meditate, read and watch foreign and art house films. Her greatest passion is travelling on exotic adventures and bringing back local art from her trips. After several trips with the embassy to Japan, Pat developed a special fondness for the Japanese style and philosophy, and has been studying Buddhism for a few years. She feels that the ideas of equilibrium, simplicity, harmony and quiet solitude honored by Japanese culture help balance out her fiery and passionate Spanish temperament.   She loves living by the water, and also loves natural light and the warm colors of sunsets, which is why she selected this apartment. In her big move from Spain to New York, she inherited a few Spanish collectors’ pieces from her family, which she wishes to incorporate into her home along with her collection from her travels. Pat’s sensibility is modern and minimal, but also somewhat bold and colorful. Her friends find her to be the heart of the party, with her strong presence and warm persona. She is an independent, adventurous, romantic, elegant, social, active and fiery person, but feels she needs some serenity and simplicity to balance her out.    In response to Pat’s taste and lifestyle, the design will be based on the elements of Japanese simplicity reflected by simple lines in furniture and textiles, low surfaces and a minimalist setting. The design will be spiced with pops of warm color, unconventional elements and objects brought from her trips, ranging from Aborigine sculptures, to Tibetan weaves and South American paintings. Her favorite color is red, which will be mixed in over a more neutral and quiet palette.   The design is upscale, elegant, international, minimalist and somewhat bold to match Pat’s personality. The color palette will be warm, but light. The apartment will maintain the open lofty feel Pat sought in purchasing this apartment.
 
Concept Sketches and Final Renderings
Foyer Design Concept For a Design Show House    Exuberant, luxurious, lavishly elegant, intricate, but also ordered and geometric – these could be qualities attributed to the Art Deco movement, or to the colorfully bright features of a peacock’s feathered tail. Based off a French art deco table selection for this townhouse’s entrance, the room’s design will seek to project the main characteristics of this movement in a contemporary fashion, inspired by the brightly colorful and elegant palette of a peacock tail.   Influenced by modernity and the machine age, utilizing stylized geometric forms inspired by African, Aztec Mexican and Ancient Egyptian ethnic motifs, Art Deco was considered an eclectic form of elegant and stylish modernism. For this project, the design seeks to re-contrast the art deco forms with current modern motifs and inspiration, which also tend to be geometric and use some very similar materials such as stainless steel, lacquer and sweeping curves. The design will seek to juxtapose the “old” modernism with the “new”, and it’s biomorphic forms and new materials.   The visitor’s first impression entering this designer show house shall be one of fresh elegance and luxury, color, and light, with a functional and modern feel.
 
Examples of Drafting and Rendering Work
a growing chain of high-quality cooked-to-order burgers and hand scooped shakes backed by classic r&b jukebox music, fatburger has gained a following in California, where it was founded in 1952 in la.  the chain has a higher price point compared to the dominant burger chains in the country, appealing to a population with an average age of 35-45, displaying a high concentration of college-educated customers with an average household income of $70K per year.  despite having started in LA, fatburger has been expanding throughout the us and Canada over several years. Of the 94 existing stores, only 36 are owned by the company.  Fatburger wishes to continue expanding its presence worldwide and hopes to have a strong introduction to the discerning nyc market once this franchise office is opened.  Design Concept for NYC fatburger franchise office   following the company's philosophy of basic, high-quality ingredients and transparency shown through the food being prepared in front of the customer, the concept for the franchise office will focus on simple but quality materials such as concrete, stone and metal. With a focus on quality will also comes a focus on environmental responsibility in the choice of materials and in the layout, which will incorporate as much universal design as possible.  In respect for the company's ideal of transparency, the general office layout will have as few light and circulation-blocking divisions as possible without compromising the needs and efficiency of the work environment. Color will be used sparingly but in bright primary tones to add a dynamic feel and warmth. The design will ultimately seek to project the company's philosophy in a modern, sleek, airy and simple format that will communicate fatburger's essence to newcomers and move those in the office toward communication, growth and success.
