- 2 Assumptions: 1) Theology needs to be freed from the academy. Seminary conversation: “theology should only be done by those trained in the field.”
- 2nd Assumption: “Theology, as a FUNCTION of the Christian church, must serve the NEEDS of the church.”
- Why am I here? Not a PhD or a student - tho I am married to one. No idea - ask Tripp. But I think because I’ve tried to live this out.
- Those of us who are PRACTITIONERS need to get theology OUT of the academy, INTO the church, and then OUT of the church and INTO the world... Two examples: Pomomusings & Beer.
- Graduated college / moved to Idaho.
- Not a LOT going on there....
- Started blog. After pimping myself - had diverse/large readership. Instead of just goofy Idaho stuff...
- People wanted theology.
- People wanted theology.

- I was hungry for theological conversation. And now - I desire to create spaces to serve as host / facilitator of online convos.
- Does it always work? No... Misunderstanding, confrontation, anonymity, hurt. It’s easy to be an ass online.
- But even with that possibility, I’ve seen good/deep convos come from the blog.

- Online community IS real community. But face-to-face communication is equally important. And beer is an IMPORTANT part of theological conversation.
- Not the first one. But the first one in our area/town - might be in yours too.
- How do we do it? Who shows up: teachers, Safeway IT managers, college kids, retired folk, PhDs from the Lawrence Livermore Lab, Rabbis.

- Could we cover the same discussion topics in a SS class? Sure - but you can’t get rid of class/teacher/student feeling The “aesthetic” of it - feeling of it - is so different. We’re all in it together, working together to figure this out.
