Sindhi Literature
Sindhi literature is not only very old but is also very rich in literature. It is a living and thriving
language. The earliest reference to Sindhi literature is contained in the writings of Arab historian.
It is established that Sindhi was the first and the earliest language of the East in which the Holy
Quran was translated in the eighth or ninth century A.D. There is an evidence of Sindhi poets
reciting their verses before the Arab caliphs at Baghdad. It is also recorded that treatises were
written in Sindhi on astronomy, medicine, and history during the eighth and ninth century.Bhagu
Bhan, sumang Charan, Shah Abdul Karim and Shah Inayat and many other poets of this period
have enriched the language with mystic, romantic and epic poetry. Many centers of learning
flourished during tenth to fifteenth centuries where celebrated scholars of Sindh used to teach
religion, philosophy, and rhetoric. Modern Sindhi literature began with the conquest of Sindh by
the British in 1843. The printing press was introduced. Magazines and news papers brought
about a revolution in Sindhi literature. Books were translated from various European languages,
especially from En No doubt that every language has literature and all languages are known by
their literary people as English, French and nations of world those have literary pillars of their
languages. Poets, dramatists, novelists, fiction writers and linguists are main pillars of every
language and make language as language of their identity. Sindhi language is one of the worldly
known language and language of love, peace and Sufism. It is a language of those who have
scarified their whole life to build this language as language of ancient civilization a civilization
that is attacked and invaded many times by many invaders but they never move back and
defeated them through their love and culture. It is language of saints and those saints they came
from Afghanistan and made their last place where they spent whole life and buried here. Moen
Jo Daro is a clearest representation of Sindhi language, culture and literature because their whole
figure witnessing their way of living and living is a raw material of literature. Sindhi language
has vast literature and literary genres. Shah Abdul Kareem Bulri Waro is Chaucer of this
language and it depicts the whole scenario of that time in his poetry. Later on a great chain of
poets born and they made this language as pure language of literature. Shah Abdul Latif Bhitae,
Sachsl Sar Mast, Samei, Mirza Qaleech Baig, Makhdum Talib Ul Maula, Shaikh Ayaz and so on,
who have embellished this language in its all genres. There are classical and romantic periods
with great poets as we have read in English literature and in other languages same as here in
Sindhi literature we have classicism and romanticism periods. In Shah Abdul Latif Bhitae‟s
poetry we have history of those people who scarified their lives on love naming those stories as
„Sassi & Punho‟, Umar & Marvi. Bhitae‟s “SHAH JO RISALO” is a collection of his poems and
it is somehow known by religious scholars as it is a translation of Holy Quran because it covers
some aspects of religion praising God and His prophets. Poets like Bhitae, Shaikh Ayaz and
Sachal Sarmast have spreaded the message of Sufism and by their poetry people came to know in
real sense about actual meaning and definition of Sufism. Sindhi poetry has genres that are more
than other languages as Bait, Wae, Chao sitto, Doar, Marsyo, Qaqseeda, and so on. Classical
poets have described all these types of poetry. In romanticism era there are poets and their work
is remarkable. Ustad Bukhari is a great name who has not used a single word from any other
language and his poetry is simple based on love and every word is so simple that a child can
understand and interprete his lines taking from any ghazal. Continuing this way of writing poetry
we have other poets as Hassan Daras, Zaib Sindhi, Zakhmi Chandio, and Zama khaskheli,
Ahmed khan Mad Hosh, Zahid Shaikh, Adal Soomro, Ayaz Gul, Abdul Ghaffar Tabsum and
Dr.Mushtaq Phull. Ibrahim Munshi, Shaikh Ayaz and Zahid Shaikh are known as revolutionary
poets of Sindhi language. These poets have depicted real picture and social problems of society
expressing their feelings and emotions. Poems taghut at primary stage are written in children
literature that is also a type literature in Sindhi language. Imdad Hussein is a man who has done
this work in this genre as writing poems on children life. His poems are read from 1st
stage to 5th
level in government schools. This language has “Sindh Text Book Board Jamshoro” by which
syllabus are designed under going through some process. Another non government organization
that is “sindhi Adabi Board” its main role is to promote to Sindhi language and culture. Founders
of this organization are Shaikh Ayaz, Abdul Ghaffar Tabsum, Abdul Jabbar Junejo, Imdad
Hussein and current president Dr.Mushtaq Phull. History of Sindhi language is basically written
by Saen GM Sayd and it is authentic. Developing and building sindhi language and making a
grand edifice of sindhi literature is done by Bhero Mal Advani, Ghulam Ali Allana, Prof,Dr.
Shamasdin, Memon Abdul Majeed sindhi, Hidayat Pretum, M.h Panwhar, Qasim Bughio,
Mazahar ul Haq Siddiqui and Dr.Nabi Bux Khan Balouch. This is a brief history of Sindhi
language and its literary figures that are done by literary people with different periods.

Ustad Bukhari is a great name who has not used a single word from any other language and his poetry is simple based on love and every word is so simple that a child can understand and interprete his lines taking from any ghazal. Continuing this way of writing poetry we have other poets as Hassan Daras, Zaib Sindhi, Zakhmi Chandio, and Zama khaskheli, Ahmed khan Mad Hosh, Zahid Shaikh, Adal Soomro, Ayaz Gul, Abdul Ghaffar Tabsum and Dr.Mushtaq Phull. Ibrahim Munshi, Shaikh Ayaz and Zahid Shaikh are known as revolutionary poets of Sindhi language. These poets have depicted real picture and social problems of society expressing their feelings and emotions.
