 Self talk (core self evaluations both positive and negative)
 Self awareness (EI)
 Control and monitoring
Developing meta cognitive skills
 metacognitive skills involve:
 Knowing when to get additional help
 Being aware of effective decision making strategies
 Being clear about the specific problem to be solved
 Monitoring the process

 To improve these skills
 Identify negative thoughts
 Be aware of self defeating thoughts
 Use of CTI
 Four steps by Peterson and Sampson;
 Identify the negative thought/statements
 Question the appropriateness, usefulness or truthfulness of the statement//thought
 Alter or reframe
 Act in ways that are consistent with the new thought
 Train for positive self talk
 Use of books and professional counseling

 Reduce either/or thinking
 Eliminate confusion
 Develop self control
 Control outbursts
 Hence there is improved general problem solving.
